I purchased this for my wife to replace her 4 year old MacBook pro. It works seamlessly with the programs she needs for work. The pen input is also fantastic and really comes in handy for signing documents. In addition I borrow it from time to time and the dedicated GPU is fast enough for me to do some casual gaming.

The laptop tablet combo of the surface book is awesome. Does what it's supposed to do and what you'd expect. Light weight, solid build, doesn't feel cheap in anyway, stylist works great... only reason I give this a 4 star review is because of the speakers. I don't ever expect amazing sound quality out of any laptop, but the speakers in the surface are very tinny and with volume maxed you can actually hear a rattle like sound. Exchanged the first surface I bought because of it thinking maybe I just got a lemon but the second one did the same thing. You can turn off the Dolby sound enhancement and the problem seems to go away but your max volume is greatly depreciated.

Wonderful asset to have in your backpack if you are a college student. Extremely useful because you can draw directly on lecture ppts and keep up with the professors at all times! Brilliant interface. Only down side is that it tends to freeze every once in a while which is why I rated 4/5. Not sure but I think it's an iOS issue. Nonetheless, if your tired of printing lecture ppts and running out of space to write side notes, you can easily add blank pages and resize your text to fit using drawboard. You can even access your docs remotely on your cell which is pretty awesome. You can also use it like a white board and virtually draw anything! Defiantly a plus for teachers and tutors

I definitely did a lot of research before getting this laptop, and at first it was plagued by some bugs and issues related to the new engineering and software going into this device. Microsoft has spent the lifetime of the device improving these issues, with the recent Windows 10 Anniversary Update not only resolving many of the issues that users still had, but also adding a massive new feature-set for Surface devices. This is the best trackpad I've ever used, and the keyboard is fantastic to type on. The screen is great, bright, and responsive. The touch works great with both finger and pen. All in all, if you can afford it, I would recommend this device to anyone.

This is a great device. It is fast and so convenient to use. Much better than just a regular laptop since it can also be used as a laptop. It also feels sturdy and it looks like it can take a beating and keep on working. Very impressed so far.

Purchased with the intent to return with 45days.. why? I couldnt face paying 1600 for a laptop that didnt have a CD Drive or ethernet . Likes: the tablet feature, mobility to flip around is more than a cool factor. The fact it is powerful to run smooth foot the bill. Highest end i5 model hasnt flaked not once. Slight dislike: the battery in tablet style (detached) last few hours.. not to bad. Battery overall is good though. Not really a con: im old fashioned but young.. it has many touch features that blow my mind.. havnt bought a laptop since 2008, sony vaio.. For a person who needs a laptop and wants a powerful tool.. this model is perfect.

I bought this Surface Book 4 days ago, (i5, 8gb ram, 256 gb HD) , it took me a few days to get all my software installed and personalize the computer the way I like it. I also own a surface pro 3, which I love. This machine is a beast for the money. I am an IT tech, and know my laptops. Don't walk, run out and try one for yourself. So far the best laptop I have ever owned. I am a power user and get a good 9 hours with lots of active web sites and Office applications. The keyboard is excellent with a small objection. The keys, although backlit, are sometimes difficult to see without adjusting the lighting. Not really a problem, but wanted to point it out, they should have been black. That being said, is not really a problem as I am a touch typist and have no problem at all.

The surface book is amazing! Just dont plan on using this beauty with the screen only, batery life and the graphics are lost. You can connect and charge the screen, only but i prefer to just flip it and keep all the power this beast has.

I was debating between the book and the pro to replace my previous laptop. The size of the screen is great. I was also intrigued by the detachment option because I would use the screen only for reading while on the plane. Battery usage distribution was also a good surprise (using screen only until 20% battery, then attaching it back to the keyboard that has 100% battery, they will eventually even out before having to recharge). I was hoping that this would completely replace my iPad as well ( that was wishful thinking). The book is definitely on the heavier end (imagine carrying two iPad Pro's). The physical quality of Microsoft's product lacks behind that of Apple (screen section does not align with/click on the keyboard section perfectly).

The most impressive piece of technology I have. I've had desktops and tablets. I'm a songwriter and when writing I detach the tablet place it on a music stand and then give verbal dictation in word to write songs. The tablet keeps my hands-free to play the guitar. After doing several revisions I reattach to the keyboard and type out the final version. It is fast it is handy just been discovering the many uses that I will have in the future for this piece of technology. I forgot to mention the stylus which I can annotate anything that I'm writing or drawing any pictures phenomenal piece of equipment!

Love the new Microsoft Book. It is expensive but I love how fast the SSDrive is. This thing has a lot of power and actually will replace an expensive desktop. It boots up faster from being off then my old computer took to come out of sleep mode. Stronger keyboard than the Microsoft Pro yet still can disconnect the keyboard and use as a tablet. I wish there were more information on what the icons stand for without having to go online all the time. Came with a pen which is pretty cool to play with. Still haven't figured out how it helps me though. I'm pretty much a keyboard guy. Solid and well built.

    Great computer for a student

Starting out college can be a hastle, with the moving, and the classes, and the sheer amount of stuff needing to be done alone. It's a pretty big responsibility, and nowadays everyone needs to go through the process. What does any of this have to do with a computer made by Microsoft? The help they give to students. While not much, Microsoft seems to have a new target audience with its products: the college student. From sales to students to free* copies of their programs (*with the purchase of some hardware or another), what Microsoft seems to be doing is admirable. Now is the help they give anything monumental? Not really, but it's appreciated. This is mostly because the computer in itself is on the pricey side and made for a niche audience. Microsoft has made some great cheaper products, such as the original surface series, so if you decide to go for a cheaper computer, definitely think about that. Now the one problem the ultimate surface book pro mega edition faces is a problem that creates other problems. It feels like Microsoft is competing with apple directly. This in itself creates many issues. The storage on this is incredibly small if you're thinking of working with videos or animation, so you'll either have to buy the more expensive 500gb or 1tb model, or just get a external hard drive depending on your wallet. The price point on its own is monstrous and there is some awkwardness in explaining and figuring out things this computer does on your own spare time. For example, there is a dedicated graphics card built into the more expensive versions of the computer, which best buy doesn't really explain to the unwary consumer. "Do you want the 500gb/8gb ram with dgpu, or without." Now if you're thinking of gaming or animating on the computer, you should probably think about getting the graphics card, which isn't spectacular, but does it's job well. All the extras on the computer is really helpful for a student as well, such as onenote (which you can get, as well as office 360 for free, you should look into that yourself as it isn't advertised). Lastly, this is where I tell you the fact that I have heard of problems hardware wise, but I have only just bought it, and I will add a review if any of the battery issues and what not is true on my computer. For now, it works just fine and is fun to work with, both in class, and in your spare time. Ending words: try to weight the pros and cons of the computer on your own, and with the price point of apple computers, it's very obvious this is meant to be Microsoft answer to the MacBook, price and all. As I have used Windows for all my life, I don't think I wanted to learn the ins and outs of apples osx, windows 10 is user friendly, it was between this, and the surface pro. Thank you for reading, and get busy weighing your options. Pros: +++Applications galore, almost anything you want for school and for fun, Microsoft works well with +++Office 360, and by extension Microsoft word, Excel, etc are free for students +++Screen and keyboard are easy to change into a few configurations, each for somebody. You can detach into tablet mode, or reverse the screen for animators and artists. ++Light and easy to work with ++Fast in terms of starting up, finding files, etc because of the internal ssd ++dedicated graphics card is ok to slightly above average +Best buy gives webroot security for free, which is a light antivirus, although I prefer Kaspersky +Does what youve read about, so I'm gonna avoid repeating info about the touch screen and pen. It does it's job, and it does it well. Cons -----why are you so expensive (this is probably the only important drawback) ---i read about hardware issues with the book, and I will write a review if any of that arises. So far I've only had an issue with detaching and reattaching the screen to the keyboard, but that was because of me messing around with the computer ---a ton of learning how to use it. It takes you a while to just read about the secret features of the pen --ssd, while fast, is small in the cheaper versions of the surface book. Unimportant to some, but extremely important to content creators and gamers --the graphics card is decent and can handle stress, but the resolution on the book is pretty wierd, being 3000 by 2000 (I think) and cant handle newer games that well -the pen uses AAAA batteries, what store sells that

    Fantastic product, but not perfect

As a college student, the Surface Book is an amazing device to use in class and for general usage. The keyboard is wonderful, the monitor/tablet is fantastic, and the pen is great for writing notes in class. While the 3000x2000 resolution is nice, it drains the batteries quicker than I would like and since it is a first generation product, it still has some software and hardware quirks. But don't worry, the quirks are not too bad; sometimes windows hello verifies my face twice to stall for boot up time, the keyboard touchpad has trouble recognizing zoom in/out motions, and connecting to another monitor makes everything go crazy for about 3 seconds while it tries to figure out which GPU to use. Overall, I love the surface book and it is worth the price.

Yupp it’s true. Every thing that the salesman mentioned to was true & the product’s overall quality for my projects was above & beyond my expectation. Though using it while charging should be mentioned before selling it but it doesn’t do that while not charging sooo its works great even considering it’s flaw.

I reviewed a lot of laptops, notebooks, tablets before finally settling on the Surface Book Pro. I ran my final 3 selections by a couple of my IT friends and they agreed that this was the best product for me. I use this for both work and pleasure and have found that it's perfect! The price was a bit high, but with everything that this offers, I felt it was worth it. The solid state drive is incredible and fast, which allows quicker loading of programs, fast processing speed when performing calculations - love it!! Would highly recommend this laptop/taplet!!!
