You get so much value here. First the sound is amazing for movies, music, phone calls and for playing video games. Then the noise cancelation is impressive because you don't just cancel the sound around you, but you can also amplify the sound around you, for those times when you need to know your surroundings. This feature is so good, you can even turn it up to hear small footsteps on the second floor. Great to make sure your kids are safe. The touch pad is so useful and easy to use, and I love being able to activate Cortana and Alexa with just one touch.

    Surprisingly Awesome Headphones from Microsoft

I was skeptical in purchasing headphones from Microsoft vs the other pro audio companies. These are an under-rated gem. Audio quality is great, multipoint-Bluetooth connectivity is very convenient, microphone works great for conference calls (great voice clarity). The knobs for controlling volume and noise-cancelling are genius. These are the all-purpose headphones I have been looking for. Great for someone who needs headphones for both noise cancelling and video conferencing.

It has dials, great sound, and is $100 less than the new songs. Only thing it doesn't have is marginally better sound quality, better noise cancelation and as compact of a design. You get multi device support on both but the Surface Headphones 2 were the first. Way more stylish than the mk4 from Sony and it's Microsoft Ofdice integration with dictation is unrivaled.

I am working from home and I wanted to get a wireless Bluetooth set of noise canceling headphones that would be comfortable to wear for long periods of time, with a good microphone. The Surface Headphones 2 definitely do not disappoint. I love these cans. The sound quality is superb, plus each headphone has a dial to adjust volume (right) and level of noise canceling and amplification (left). Very cool. The battery life is pretty good, I get around 16 - 17 hours before needing a charge. The headphones have a voice prompt that provides remaining battery life every time I power up, plus I get warnings when the battery is at one hour left and when it is about to run out of juice. Speaking of powering up, there is a conventional power button. Press it to turn the headphones ON, press it to turn them OFF. So simple, yet functional. The headphones can pair with up to 8 devices at a time and can be simultaneously connected to two devices at once. In my case that means its connected to my work laptop and my iPhone. The headphones look great, I have gotten compliments from my wife and several work colleagues who have seen the headphones via video conference calls. Pairing and connecting is drop dead easy. The price is $249, which is more than fair when you factor in all of the benefits. The headphones charge via USB-C, which seems to be the new standard. They come with a good quality hard shell case that will work perfectly when I start traveling again. These headphones are almost perfect. I have no complaints. Buy with confidence!!!

Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews. Pros - great overall sound quality, strong ANC, solid battery life, comfortable for long hours of use, usb type C, cheaper than the first model, aptX support Cons - touch controls (not a fan) are sensitive, a few bugs In the box - You get ... the surface 2 headphones, charging cable, 3.5mm cable, some documentation to get you started, and a very nice soft touch zip case to hold everything. Build quality - I really like the fit and finish of the the Surface 2 Headphones. They have a sturdy build quality while remaining very lightweight. The ANC and volume control wheels should be industry standard features. Tuning in your ANC to perfectly match your surroundings is super easy. The touch controls work as they should, but I've never cared for touch controls on a headset. It's too easy to bump into your shoulder while moving around, this can pause a track while listening or -even worse - hang up on a live call" I've had this happen several times so I just disabled these in the app. On the left earcup is your ANC control knob and touch control panel, while on the left you have volume and controls plus several buttons. There's power and mute, an LED light (power), your USB-C port, and a 3.5mm jack. The earcup material is very soft, easily conforms to your ear/head shape, and keeps you cool during long listening sessions. The headband is equally comfortable and has the adjustments you'd expect. I wish the stops on the band adjustments were a little stiffer, but I had no problem keeping my adjustments exactly where I wanted them. Setup - Getting the surface headphones 2 up and running is very simple. Press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the LED flashes white then follow the usual steps. For complete customization you'll want to download the surface audio app, which allows you to adjust eq, volume and ANC levels, disable or enable touch controls, disable voice prompts (I did this immediately), update your firmware, and more. Pretty straightforward. Performance - Out of the box the surface headphones 2 come tuned with a flat audio profile that works well across all types of media. The sound quality is on par with other headphones in this price range, with a healthy -if not mind-blowing - amount of bass and clean highs. The mid-range seems a little bit muddy to me, which is disappointing, but you can ameliorate this somewhat through EQ adjustments. Overall I'm very happy with the sound quality I'm getting from these whether connected to my windows pc, phone, tablet, or streaming device. The headphones get plenty loud, I very rarely get them above 50% in most use cases. No problems here. The ANC is very good as well, silencing most external noises at max. It'll easily silence the sounds of your neighborhood, a busy street, or a noisy family at the highest settings. I really love the rings used to control volume and ANC, and would like to see more manufacturers implement this design. Battery life seems to be reporting accurately in the app and it seems to match up pretty well with what MS claims, but I tend to keep ANC on all the time so I do have to charge them every few days. Thankfully charging is very fast over USB-C so there's no problem here. Voice quality is good. Not great, but with the tiny mics you find on headsets it's par for the course. Everyone I've talked to with these says I sound clear, and a test recording in windows does indeed reveal that the audio is clear and crisp. I've used the surface 2 in several different voip apps and haven't had an issue ... for the most part (more later). Overall I'm really happy with the performance of these headphones. I love how quickly they pair with my devices. Hit the power button and within a second or two you're connected, much faster than any other headsets or earbuds I've used. They're easy enough to wear for long periods of time, and even fit people with giant noggins and glasses while still remaining comfortable. Cons - So I've run into a few bugs here and there with these headphones so far. 1: when I'm paired to multiples devices (phone, pc, tablet) and they are all powered on, I run into a problem. Let's say I'm taking a call on my phone, but my tablet and PC are both on and connected, but not transmitting any sound. The call will start out normally but over time, 8-10 minutes, the audio will grow increasingly distorted until I have to disconnect and reconnect my phone. This was happening every time I took a call and I couldn't figure out what the issue was until I eventually powered down my PC and disconnected my tablet. With one active device connected the audio stayed clear for the duration of a call, no issues. I'm assuming this is a software issue handling input from multiple sources. It might be a limitation of the bluetooth spec or something, I don't know, but I'm hoping a firmware update addresses this issue. The problem seems most pronounced while connected to my phone and active windows PC. The tablet didn't seem to cause any interference after repeat testing. 2: using the headphones in a windows environment is completely smooth. The headphones seamlessly take over audio duties as you would expect and work fine with every VOIP app I tried them with; skype, zoom, and discord. BUT ... I did have a problem using these with the custom video conference software I use for work. This may not be MS's fault here, but for some reason when I tried using these for work the incoming audio seemed to reverberate nonstop until the speakers on the other end were completely unintelligible. I tried disconnecting several times, but something in my companies' software just didn't place nice with the surface 2 headphones, even though my other headphones worked just fine. weird. 3. not really a bug, but worth mentioning, the earcups aren't symmetrical. the vertical sides that run along either side of your ear are thicker here, which probably helps with passive noise cancellation, but I have a big old head with giant ears and this creates a problem. When I turn my head far to one side or the other the audio cuts out for me. Now I'm not saying that audio stops playing, but what's happening is that the earcup itself is putting pressure on my ear in such a way that it closes off my ear a little bit, making sound temporarily inaudible. Keeping my head still or mostly facing in the same direction completely alleviates this problem. It's not a huge problem, but at first I wasn't sure what was going on. I thought the audio was just dropping from one ear then the other for no apparent reason. The weird thing about this is that I have five other wireless headsets that I use in a fairly regular rotation, and not a single one of these has this problem. But then again they also have a more uniform thickness around the earcups. This probably won't be an issue for most users, but if you have a big head and or big ears this might affect you so ... worth mentioning. Final thoughts - Overall I really like the surface 2 headphones. They're perfect for most uses, but a few bugs prevent the surface headphones 2 from reaching true greatness. Still they're a fantastic set of headphones that I'd recommend for just about anyone, or at least anyone without a gigantic head.

I bought my girlfriend a pair of Sony WH-1000XM4 and these for me. I did a back-to-back sound comparison and noise cancellation. I would say that the Sony's barely beat out these, but I wanted something different and I really like Microsoft products. I would be happier with either. I did like the smaller case size of the Sony better as well.

I have the Sony Awh-1000xm3 but got these as a back up set for my desk set up. The multiple device function is nice to have. The wheel to turn volume and noise canceling up and down is the most ideal way of control. Although they are not as comfortable as the Sony’s I would still recommend them.

The best thing about the Surface Headphones 2 is their usability. Love the control dials and that they work so smoothly. Sound is just fine, not amazing (but I am comparing to some of the better wireless headphones out there). There’s enough bass for those who want it. But I listen to a range of music, including classical, and would like more clarity with strings and wind instruments. I think they would be decent for most pop and r&b music. Microphone is great for calls, super clear. Noise cancelling works well. For me, they’re a little too tight on my ears (more an issue of the shape of my head I think) so not the most comfortable. Nevertheless, I think if they fit you well, I think you’ll enjoy these headphones, especially during these home working times!

They are awesome, but ANC and sound quality are not as good as the Sony M4. I love having the controls for the levels of ANC right there. I hate having to go to the app to change that, like in the Sony’s. Overall, they are a good option for the price

Just by touching it out of the box I already knew i will like them. They feel amazing and love the turn wheel to adjust volume and noise canceling. The price is also great but both premium sony and bose headphones sound better if listened side by side. But I won’t complain since the surface headphones sound amazing.

I don't know why everyone prefers the Sony M4 WH-1000XM4. Here you have absolute control over volume and noise cancellation. Also the sound quality is really good, much better than sony in my opinion. In addition, the build quality and ergonomics for me are superior.
