I've owned the Surface Pro and now the Surface Pro2. The more efficient processor allows for more time on the battery. Very handy when out and about. The ability to use the Surface Pro2 as my primary road computer is great versus lugging around a laptop. In addition, using the stylus comes in handy for some of my work applications. For the processing power the Pro2 provides, the weight is great. A little heavy as a tablet, but this unit works much better as a work machine than an iPad ever could.

I bought this to replace my aging laptop and to do programming on the go. I did not want another laptop and I most certainly did not want a "toy tablet" (aka iPad). With the separate Touch Cover, this works just like a laptop. If you need a tablet real quick, all you need to do is flip the keyboard back and now you have a tablet. Excellent design. The including stylus/pen is a must for running non-touch aware programs / apps. It is highly precise and even has a "control" button on for control-clicking. The two position kick stand is also a nice feature. Wi-Fi seems fast enough. At the settings I have it at, the battery lasts for about 7 to 8 hours. For playing music, the speakers are not the best, but they are sufficient. Although I do not particularly care for the Metro interface, it is useful for a few apps, like weather, or a quick internet search. The most annoying thing so far is that sometimes the touch screen does not respond immediately to a touch on a button or text field. This glitchiness is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is by far the best tablet I've ever owned. It's essentially a lightweight, mid-range processing power laptop with the pros of both a tablet and a laptop in one. I'm a developer by trade, and have plenty of hobbies that require me to write my own applications, so I spend a lot of time on my desktop at home and my Surface while I'm out and about. I owned an IOS tablet before purchasing this and wasn't able to do any real development aside from a straight notepad with some syntax highlighting. Now I'm able to fire up an IDE of my choosing, code away, and compile and test my code all on the same device. As long as Microsoft keeps making quality products like this, I'll be around to buy them.

A long source of frustration for me has been the fact that, as a creative writer, inspiration tends to strike when I don't have my laptop with me. With a tablet that fits into my purse, that's not a problem anymore. I can write on my break at work, while waiting for car repairs, in airports and on planes and I don't have to drag around a huge laptop. Also means less carryon bags when I fly, makes packing easier. In addition, with the FreshPaint application, i don't need to carry a sketch book around with me anymore! It's just as good! Overall, it makes working with my temperamental muse SO much easier...

I love it. It runs all my windows programs, and apps from the store as well. If you need true horsepower just apps won't cut it. I find it much faster surfing the internet than my iPad 3 even with internet explorer. The pen input is excellent. I use it all the time. Handwriting performance is also very good. Running Rosetta Stone, the pen and built in microphone are all I use and they work very well. Rosetta Stone is a real program and will not run on my iPad or my wife's android tablet. It is just the way it is. Being able to display multiple windows is great. If you click a link in an email, half the screen will open to the internet site which you can then size if desired. I gave the screen quality a five, but I have to use reading glasses if I want to see all the data that I would see on my 24" desktop screen. But it is easy to change from small to large on the desktop. Sorry, I am over 50. Don't just compare it to an iPad or Android tablet. This is the real deal that also has apps. The windows store doesn't have a million apps, but the important ones are there and more are arriving all the time. I travel a lot and while heavy for a tablet it is 1/3 the weight of my old laptop. It is a five star rating because it does what I need it to do very well. Is it perfect? No. But until that product arrives, this one is the best.

The second Surface Pro 2 in our family

My husband has a super fast Dell desktop in his office, but sometimes, he'd like a more portable computer to use while watching TV. I have 2 Android tablets and a Surface Pro 2, which I also bought from Best Buy. He said he never wanted a tablet until he could find a use for it. After using my Surface Pro 2, he decided he wanted one, too. Now, we both sit around the TV playing with our tablets. Mine is the only one I take on trips. My advice to anybody considering a tablet or something like the Surface: pick it up and hold it in your hand for awhile. The specs are all pretty advanced. Find the device that feels good in your hand and does what you want to do. Forget the reviewers. You decide.

Finally a Tablet that replaces my Laptop

Having used iPads, Android Tablets, I have kept looking for something that I could take to replace my laptop. The Surface Pro 2 is the best thing I have found to date. It's really handy on airplane flights where the screen is small enough that if the seat in front fully reclines you aren't cramped or worried about breaking your screen. I can have it run all my standard Windows applications and switch between then (useful when at a desk) and Metro apps (useful when hand held). The battery lasts 3 to 6 hours (depending on use). The Type 2 keyboard is pretty easy to type on. I have tested various Bluetooth mice without problems. My only complaint is on the Metro apps you cannot change the small font size if the screen is set to less than 1920×1080 pixel), and the device can get into a high CPU usage if the SD card is installed at boot time (Microsoft is working on this issue).

Nice powerful tablet, could almost replace a laptop. Price is a bit hefty and seems to be set for all sellers, although BestBuy had a substantial instant rebate that they were nice enough to honor after I had already bought my machine. Unfortunately you are not able to add or upgrade memory or storage in these tablets and the 64 and 128 GB HDs only have 4 GB memory where the 256 and 512 GBs have 8 GB. Overall I am very happy with the function of this tablet.

I've been enjoying the Surface Pro 2 for a few weeks now. It has everything I need in a tablet, plus some great features of a laptop. Good quality screen, easy to customize with apps and tiles on the desktop. The kickstand is surprisingly sturdy. The pen stylus that comes with it is such a pain. It's difficult to attach it to the screen simply by feel, and it pops off way too easily. Plus, there's nowhere to put it while charging, since the charging cable plugs into the same port as the pen.

Got this to use for school. I needed something that was light weight and powerful. It was either an ultra book or this lil guy. Seen a lot of reviews on it and finally decided on this machine because It had a digital pen ( great for note taking and drawing). Wanted the 256gig model for the extra ram but decided this should be sufficient. I use it to take notes in class, do online homework and to type out papers using the type cover (have to get type cover it is to hard to type using touch screen.). Love to take notes because I can change colors and organize my notes afterwards (using program ONE note). It is a bit painful to type for long sessions using the type pad. The track pad on the type pad is not very good almost feel forced to use they screen to scroll and click. Device sometimes doesn't register the touch cover when waking it up from sleep ( which is SUPER FAST btw so is turning it on from off) so i just have to remove it and snap it back on. Office is NOT free on this! Shame that the surface gets it for free but not this machine which is an extra 500 bucks for...so thats an extra 100 to get word, pp,excel and one note...other microsoft programs are more expensive. App store is a joke compared to apples. No pandora..(but can just use site) Sometimes freezes for no apparent reason... Screen has a lot of glare. be taking notes in class and I can see the lights above me on my screen no matter how bright the screen is. You kind of have to look past it. I feel like i'm still discovering new things every day but over all I think its a great product overall. Windows 8 takes some getting use to.

If you do lots of traveling for work, this is a great system to have. Very easy to take and you don't have to remove it from carry on luggage when going through security. I also purchased Microsoft Office so it does everything my laptop will do. Love the detachable keyboard and the system is fast with no problems loading all my documents. Love it.

I was looking for a new laptop as my previous one was a few years old and was beginning to show its age. I decided to give the Surface Pro 2 a try and have not been disappointed. Despite being only slightly heavier and thicker than what you'd expect from a tablet, this device is clearly a laptop replacement as should be obvious from the fairly high price. After reading through the specs and a few reviews I was expecting a pretty quick and powerful device, but I was still surprised at just how quick it actually is. There is rarely any slowdown or lag, even when running some pretty resource intensive desktop applications like Visual Studio. I also had no problem playing a few newish games through Steam, albeit not on the highest graphics settings. Really the only negative thing I have to say about it is the high cost, especially as the keyboard covers are sold separately and are also expensive. If you can afford it though, it's worth it.

Surface Pro 2 is the Answer

I was considering buying a new laptop and tablet and after much research decided to go with the Surface Pro2. I have been using it for 3 weeks and I believe this will be my computing answer for years to come. It is super fast, highly adaptable and after I loaded all of the Microsoft office tools, served my needs for both home an office. I purchased the docking station, and all of the accessories needed to adapt it to my work environment and it works perfect. Love the note taking capabilities with the pen. I had never used Windows8 before but love the interface between the desktop and app view. Easy to learn and adjust. Sound is ok, what you would expect for the size of the computer. Graphics are excellent for the small screen. It easily links to a monitor for my daily business use. Cons: I rate it low for value due to the fact that 100% of the customers would buy a keyboard/cover. This should be bundled. While the titanium cover looks cool out of the box, it is more delicate than a normal laptop. The case shows scratches quite easily. Protect it early in your ownership if you care about looks. Summary: Highly recommend it if you want PC capabilities with Office tools and avoid having to buy a tablet. This is a portable "ultra book" like laptop in a sleek, powerful tablet like body.

Windows 8 is still a little odd to me but we're learning it fast enough. I like that when traveling I can take this an do all that's needed for personal and business uses. I love the ability to use it as a note pad to take notes on, I was impressed by the handwriting to typed notes capability. Overall loved it.

This is the device windows 8 was made to run on. The touch interface adds a new dimension to windows 8 pro. I use this device in the field for configuring and testing equipment and this has the perfect form factor for doing that. It's far more convenient and with better battery life than most laptops. The price is steep but one typically gets what one pays for. The screen quality is terrific. The battery life is exceptional. The build quality seems too notch so far. I like the two position kick stand as it makes getting a good viewing angle much easier. The stylus is nice. If you buy one of these plan on the keyboard from the start. I'm not sure why it's not included for the steep price.

This is a great product for the money. It is very portable and easy to pack for the frequent traveler. Having a little trouble adapting to Windows 8, but that will be overcome easily. Keyboard is backlit, easy to type on and attaches easily, but I do not like that it is flimsy. When you try to work on your lap, you definitely need a lap desk to give the keyboard some stability. Battery life seems adequate. I purchased this for personal use, not for business and it is meeting my needs quite well.

This is my first tablet. I love the purple backlit keyboard. I also like the bluetooth capabilty, and easy access to my hotmail accounts. I can access my work computer remotely, which is very helpful. I like having a USB port for extra storage or connecing a mouse. I wish there were two USB ports and an HDMI port. Sometimes my cursor gets displaced randomly. Overall, I am very happy with my Surface Pro!

Really enjoy it. Looked at the ultra books but they were still just too big for what I was wanting. Wish it would have included the Type Cover given the price but oh well. Worked great until Micorsoft released a firmware upgrade that caused some issues but Microsoft store fixed the drivers in a couple of days and all is good again. Looking forward to the new firmware since reports show that it should increase battery life by as much as 25%. On that note the battery life had been accetable but more life is always a plus. Enjoy that I can use it for some business use when needed since it is full blown Windows 8.1 which I have enjoyed using. One thing that would have been nice given that it's a second gen is that it would have been a little thinner and lighter but still enjoy how it feels when using it. All in all it is pricey given what is available but for the power and what It can do I believe it was worth the price and enjoy using it.

This for me is the perfect blend of tablet and pc (when combined with the type keyboard). The fact that other companies are copying the tablet with detachable keyboard idea (Sony Vaio Tap 11, and the Dell Venue Pro 11 ) is proof that microsoft was on to something. I especially like the Wacom pressure sensitive screen when using Sketchbook Pro. Of course if you mostly just want a tablet to surf the internet, then there are lighter and cheaper alternatives. If you're just shopping for a laptop, then for the same price you could get something with a bigger screen for the same price. But if you find yourself wishing for something in between, or if you like to do some portable sketching in a pc, then this might just be the ticket for you.

I really like the size of this computer. The battery life can't be beaten. The Microsoft 8 operation system is not as intuitive as I had hoped. What is surprising is the weight of the computer. It looks as if it should weigh quite a bit less.
