The fighting mechanic is so fun I find myself not following the story, but engaging in the war!

This game is a great LOTR game. It contains copious amounts of content: colllectibles, nemesis, army, rpg, and loot systems along with a captivating story. The issue arises when you reach act 4. In short, it's a grind designed to have you spend money on their market for orcs. It is frustrating at times, but never did it feel intrusive to the point I played the game only for the endorphin rush of chest openings, which happens in some other games **cough** Madden **cough**.
If you like the game's content and gameplay, find it addicting to build your army and equip better loot, and explore Middle-Earth, then this game's gonna be great for you, with no real pull to spend any cash. If you're just in it for the story....then be prepared for a grind.

Similar to the first game but much improved. The story feels deeper, the world is huge, the nemesis system is better, there are more characters in the story and the combat is smooth as butter. Highly recommended!

This continuation from Shadow of Mordor is nothing short of excellent. The graphics are out of this world, the gameplay, story line and the freedom of open world exploring makes this game extremely fun. If you haven’t played this title, you’re missing out.

If you loved the first, you'll love this one just they same. They've added more abilities to make traversal of the expansive even more entertaining with double jump, high leaps when climbing, and even the ability to ride dragons! The nemesis system has vastly improved with the ability to learn your combat techniques mid battle and instantly apply them, making you change up your game. Even dying is ok, as it gives you a chance to go after the orc that killed you, and nab some upgraded loot! Speaking of loot, this game has added microtransactions loot box style. While I am definitely not a fan, they haven't done anything to shove it in my face, and they really did do a good job balancing the pace of the game without out them first. Finally, the graphics are great across all systems, and play pretty smooth. I've only noticed some texture glitches here and there where the texture didn't render properly, and it suddenly looks like a piece of work from a Nintendo 64 game, crash landed in front of me.
This game is Xbox one x enhanced with hdr support, and I can't wait to try it out once that console launches later this year.
This game is worth the full retail price imo.

First off this game came to 38$ with the Best Buy gamers club access pass and the 10$ back pre-order bonus. It also came with a wearable ring of power. Now it doesn’t turn me invisible or give me actual power but it’s a nice piece of memorabilia from the movies. The pre-order and pick up in store is a flawless experience and the discounted price is a no brainer. This is the best way to buy a physical copy of game. My review will be basic, if you liked the first you will like this sequel. Waiting on the Xbox x to be released so that I can play this in glorious 4k.

This game is an obvious sequel done right with every mechanic from the first being streamlined and expanded upon. The stealth mechanics were given so much attention through upgrades that it's entirely possible to stealth run entire strongholds with chained executions and elven swiftness closing any significant gaps. The mounted combat sytem was vastly improved upon with options to mount not just caragors and graugs, but drakes and ulugs too. Each has their own unique abilities which can the tide of an unlucky 1v5 invulnerable captain duel surrounded by a horde of orcs, if you happen to be so unlucky.
Every orc you come across has such unique person that translates both into their aesthetic and fighting style, every fight can challenging or empowering the player to get creative in his strategy to topple them. I think the most understated mechanic in the first game that didn't really occur until after the captain killed you is the "Adaptation" system which allows the uruks to learn your tricks and counter them accordingly making a whelp into a threat and a menace into an abslolute demon. The quest system is also much more open alongside the more varied world design containing dense forests, tundras, caves, and of course the volcanic lands surrounding Mt. Doom. The joke voice acting lightens the heavy atmosphere and helps lighten the mood no matter the odds. I also appreciate the ability to do more than just kill or dominate the captains. Tossing them off of cliffs, shaming them and maiming them really extend the fun.
If I had to recommend a game to buy this season, this game I cannot recommend enough.

The game plays well and looks beautiful, and as 4K and HDR are added I'm sure it will look even better, however the game fails to live up to enjoyment of the first one so far. I'm only about 20-30 percent of the way through the game, but I believe the addition of micro-transactions (in-game purchases) have led to the game not being quite as enjoyable. This is not to say the game isn't fun, it is fun and it has a very good story and will still probably be one of the best games based on Tolkien's works. If you haven't played the fist one, buy that one first and by the time you finish all the content in that game the price of this one will be lower and you'll enjoy it even more.

I find that second entries in things (mostly movies) are normally pretty lackluster. This isnt that.
Shadow of War continues the story of Talion from Shadow of Mordor and does it while introducing some more of the same (it wasnt broken, it didnt need to be fixed) and some new elements that work really well together. (Hint: Siege Battles)
The Nemesis System of the previous game returns where if an enemy kills you, and you face them again... they will remember you and taunt you. Or you could be making your way to another objective only to be randomly ambushed by a foe you long thought vanquished. This is a fantastic system and i'm surprised that more games dont make use of it.
The graphics and sound are Epic, and i can only imagine what playing this would look like on a 4k tv with an Xbox One X is going to look like. The voice acting is solid as well.
There is an online component where you can eventually lay siege on Online players, but they can do the same to you. (You go into their world while they arent there to face their Warchiefs in their castles)
The game is a lot of fun and i eagerly await the DLC. I suggest you play the first game (Shadow of Mordor) first because it's awesome and the story ties into this game.

This is such a major improvement from the first installment. It’s got much more depth and options. Not only that but the world doesn’t seem like a big empty sandbox.
The loot box’s/micro transactions don’t have to be utilized in order to get the full games story completed. They are only for cosmetics and junk I care not for. Be wise with your kids cause they may be tempted to run up your credit cards buying this stuff...

It’s an awesome game with lots to do at first. The storyline is incredible with lots of twists and humor. The gameplay and nemesis system is incredible and fun. The shortcoming is how quickly and relatively easily you can finish most of the game. It isn’t a big deal since there is still lots to do but the main story and side missions are pretty easily completed. Other than that, a beautifully made game with a great ending!!!

Truly an amazing game. The action is fast paced, the cutscenes are great, and the story even more so. Even if you didn't play Shadow of Mordor (which I would still recommend) you could still definitely play this game. I've played through most all of the game and only ran into a couple minor glitches but nothing affecting gameplay too much. This games in-depth captains are always interesting and its very fun to figure out how to beat. Don't forget the forts as it is exhilarating taking them down and building your very own Uruk army.

If you're a LOTR fan or just a fan of engrossing adventure games, then this one is for you. They've improved upon everything from the first game & have made a game that's truly worthy of the franchise & Tolkien's beloved works. Combat is great, story is fantastic, & there's dozens of hours of game play. Hands down, one of my favorite games of 2017, pick it up!

Overall, Shadow of War is an awesome game with sharp graphics and very intuitive game play. Even if you have never played the game before, it is extremely easy to learn. The campaign keeps you engaged and has a good story line. The multiplayer is even better and more fun to play. If you love slashing and hacking this is the game for you.

I thoroughly have enjoyed the storyline this game partakes in. There are many things to do beyond the main story. Combat is akin to Batman and assassin’s creed. Many upgrades to earn while playing through each areas. The nemesis system is fantastic. Captains continuously scope you out and attack when you least expect it.

In short this is Shadow of Mordor with a few added features. So if you enjoyed that you will doubtlessly enjoy Shadow of War. The fortress assault feature and the expanded nemisis system adds a whole new layer of immersive gameplay and strategy. While the added experience is a massive plus it certainly carries a few negatives for later in the game as managing your army becomes more and more cumbersome. All in all though, it’s an excellent time killer!

This really came through and is fun to play...it's pretty much in line with the original so game play is quite similar. Monsters are similar as well but the story is good.... Would definitely recommend to any LotR fans and newbies alike. Haven't had chance for the epic wars yet so that's yet to come....

Fun game, particularly if you enjoyed the last one. Probably not the best for people that expect purity of the lore from the books, but great for people that want to have fun. The microtransactions are avoidable and highly recommended you avoid them - as they are completely unnecessary to enjoy the game.
