    Great story and fantastic history

I should have seen this in the theater, but did not. I saw it on a 55" LG OLED TV with a surround system with Harman Kardon Tuner and Klipsch speakers. The story is great, the cinematography is excellent and the sound will kick you out of your seats. I did not have the sound cranked, but it felt like I was there! I thought all of the technical aspects of the film were outstanding. I enjoyed the story and the history and the acting was good. I am a big fan of military history and war films, so I did expect to enjoy this film. It was a very immersive experience.

i sort of stop buying movies ,, but i broke rank and got this ,, because it is a 4k , and since bestbuy made me buy a 4k tv , by putting one on sale for 150 bucks ,, i then got this movie .. , so i now had to see now how good 4k is ,, i had a feeling that there were cgi ,, lot of cgi in this movie and of course it was profuse .. essentially in the war actions .. and i wanted to see how good it did the flying .. to be believable . but of course to see how good it was to being a true story... As of now i 've only watch it once without hooking it up to my stereo ,, , so i enjoyed being entertained for a couple of hours .. next time will hoook up the stereo to see how good the sound is ,,, as i read 4k movies reviews that there is a big difference ... i bet if i would have my blueray setup and the 4k setup playing at the same time side by side ,, i would see a difference in picture quality .. but since i only watch one or the other ,, i bet you can't tell or would never notice any difference .. so for now i just have new toys to play with ,, and i am not a fanatic on details ,, but do enjoy being taken to another time or place and forget i had a current life .. and this movie did that .. as for quality of a 4k movie ,, i posted a picture taken with my camera and was impressed by the sharpness and quality ,, typically i see blocks or sections of the image in the pictures iwth a tv ,,, but i was really happy to see a nice sharp detailed image ,, i donna know if it is the 4k tv or the 4k movie that made it like that .. but it did give more satisfaction now that i upgraded to a 4k system now .. my next posting review will be for another different 4k movie ,,, where i will watch with my sound system too .. if you want a review of this whole movie ,, read all the other reviews posted here ...

Midway in 4k is a masterpiece

This movie was excellent. Filmed in the "vibe" of "Tora-"Tora "Tora" simply a masterpiece. Like most historians, we all hated the crummy Pearl Harbor movie that came out over ten years ago. The movie was bogged down with some crummy three way love story. It never told the true story! Midway succeeds perfectly in telling the truth. The 4k Dolby Atmos presentation is clean and bright. With outstanding sound.

Nice modern film version with better with CGI effects as compared to the original live action Midway film. Some key notes: Midway (1976): Two “Japanese” carriers seconds before the American dive bomber attacks. It looks more like a parade than general quarters. Midway (2019): A Japanese carrier and escorting ships maneuver under the pressure of attacking American dive bombers. This newer film makes it more like you are part of the action. Definately one of my top 10 WWII war films. Great to have in my video library with the nice steelbook case. Meant for longer keeping. See Photos from the web site medium.com as they compared old film to this new one.

I've seen-watch most war movies made, just have & collected many of them. Midway (new-one) is one of the best, visually, factually & breaks your heart, my daughter was in tear watching Torp 8 fall into the sea. Strongly recommend the movie.

EXCELLENT!!! This is one of the best stories about Midway that has ever been presented. The original in the 70's is very bad with old footage from the second world war and not much of a story about the actual Midway situation. The story is spot on with the modern special effects that have to be used because the ships and planes are mostly gone. Excellently filmed, sound and the 4K is impressive! I don't watch the newer movies that I buy for some time after I've seen them, but I watched this one only a few weeks after first viewing it.

Midway is a great demo disc for 4K

I had high expectations for this movie, and they were absolutely MET and EXCEEDED. In my opinion, "Midway" is the best and most historically-accurate WWII movie of recent memory, and it's one of the few that actually highlights the air war in the Pacific. The writers seemed to recognize that simply recreating this momentous series of events was an amazing story in-and-of itself, without wasting time on unnecessary drama and distractions. You can tell that the writers, producers and actors all paid close attention to maintaining historical accuracy throughout the film. From Pearl Harbor to Midway, they captured many of the key interesting and critical moments along the way. They also showed both the American and Japanese perspectives in an insightful and respectful manner, which only adds to the complexity of the story. Also, the action scenes will have anyone (history lover or not!) on the edge of their seats the whole time! I loved every moment showing the SBD Dauntlesses and the processes of dive bombing, and I enjoyed their portrayal of the Doolittle raid. Finally, the casting was great. Each actor portrayed his or her real-life counterpart in a masterful and poignant way. In short, I can't recommend this movie enough. It's incredibly important to remember the courage, daring and skill of the men and women who fought in WWII, today and every day. This movie brings their sacrifices and skills to life.

Explosions High paid actors Roland Emmerich

Owned for 7 months when reviewed.

Roland Emmerich is basically Michael Bay with a little more "Depth" in his explosions and cast. Midway tells the story of Pearl Harbor, yet again. But from the Godzilla/ID4 Special Effect auteur. While they don't tread any new ground here. It's always fun to see an ensemble that is pretty standard fair in a RE picture.

This is a good war movie. It has a nice story, likeable characters, is nicely directed. the visuals are good, and the cast is great overall! The 4K transfer is very nice as is the audio quality. The steelbook design is pretty cool and I am a big fan of the plastic sleeves Lionsgate seems to be packaging their steelbooks in. I wish all film studios released their steelbooks in such nice and protective packaging. If you like the film as I do, then definitely pick it up on 4K!

    Excellent Atmos

    |
    Posted .
Owned for 2 months when reviewed.

Despite the mixed feelings many people have over director Roland Emmerich, I thought this was a good watch. For someone who does not like to read, movies are about the only pathway to learning about history that I have. Even though it has been dramatized, it gets the message across, and has a great balance between depicting the facts, and still being fun to watch. The visual effects and CGI in this movie are very stylized and nothing short of impeccable, and the HDR definitely made all the fire and explosions much brighter. Emmerich’s films are often visual spectacles. The Pearl Harbor bombing scene was very immersive. However I wish I could say this was edited with a 4K digital intermediate, but it was not. Despite being shot primarily in 8K, it was only finished at 2K and upscaled. So much missed potential in my opinion. The Atmos track on this disc, though, is absolutely one of the best. Going back to the Pearl Harbor scene, every plane that flew overhead, had an overhead sound effect, and the entire movie was like this. There is some heavy bass through that scene as the planes approach as well. The mixers definitely spared no Atmos effects, as there were height sounds at every time that there possibly could have been. I wish more tracks were like this. If you’re looking to show off your Atmos theatre system, this is without a doubt the disc to demo with. So, if not buying for the upscaled resolution, buy for the excellent Atmos track, and the pleasing colors and overall vibrant-punchy image.

The Midway film of the late 1970s had "sense-around" sound that shook the theater, but did not have the technology to recreate the ships of the battle - the last scene was filmed standing next to a modern carrier This film picks up where the recent film Pearl Harbor left off and chronicles the first 6 ,months of the war. The cast, the attention paid to the intelligence coup that identified Midway as the target, the details about the lives of the sailors and aviators, etc all adds up to a great film. There is no way they could have fit everything into a film under 3 hours, but they did as well as anyone could

    Great film for history buffs

Not much to say about video/audio quality; it's what you'd expect from any BluRay. When I watch a film (TV show, etc.) based on historical events I'm always interested in how accurate it is compared to the real event depicted. Based on information supplied in the Bonus Features, this film appears very accurate. I'm no historian, though I've always had a passing interest in WWII. As far as Bonus Features are concerned, many here are historically based (as opposed to technical -- how was the movie made; or activity based -- more often seen in kids films and such). At least one feature is a discussion by the film makers about how they really wanted to get high accuracy in the film, and there are also features interviewing people who participated in and survived the events documented (and are depicted in the film). Obviously any film will have a certain amount of dramatization, but this film seems to try to portray all events as happened and as much dialog as is historically recorded. This isn't to say someone with far more expertise in this area than I won't find issues, but my impression is there are far fewer issues than with many other so-called historical films.
