Customers commend the fun gameplay and the attractive price point of the pre-owned Mighty No. 9. Many also appreciate the side-scrolling action. However, some find the game challenging and the storyline unengaging. The lack of difficulty options is also a point of concern for some players.

Mediocre No. 9

I'm kind of on the fence with this one. Touted as a spiritual successor to Mega Man and backed by $4 million of Kickstarter cash, Mighty No. 9 should have been an inspiring success story of how one developer went rogue (Keiji Inafune) and delivered what the fans wanted against all odds. Somewhere along the line, something went wrong.
After facing numerous delays, Mighty No. 9 is finally here...and while it does disappoint in some ways, it also delivers. Let me explain: What you get here IS very much in the spirit of Mega Man. The characters are slightly different...but the 8 robot bosses, stealing their powers, and run-and-gun platforming gameplay are all intact--plus a couple of minor twists. The most noticeable difference is that Beck (the main character you play as) can dash into enemies to deal the final blow and absorb their power. You're encouraged to prime enemies with your main blaster or other powers, then quickly dash into them for temporary buffs and point bonuses. Love it or hate it, this gives the gameplay a frantic pace not found in Mega Man games. It's worth mentioning that there are a couple of frustrating sections in this game--mainly in the form of instant-death traps (thankfully, checkpoints and extra lives are plentiful).
Graphically, Mighty No. 9 is disappointing...even for a lower-priced game. The backrounds are almost lifeless, the character models barely move during the story scenes, and some effects are underwhelming (yes, the explosions do look kind of like pizza). This is the area in which the game feels the most unfinished. In addition, framerate issues are present here and there. While nothing major (at least in the PS4 version), given the simple graphics it's inexcusable in this day and age.
The music and sound effects of Mighty No. 9 are sufficient and communicate the game's intended retro theme. The airy, techno-y tunes are superb and very reminiscent of past Mega Man games, and the voice acting is serviceable (corny, but endearing at the same time).
When the dust settles, what you're left with in Mighty No. 9 is a short-but-sweet platformer which lacks the graphical punch and charm to elevate it above average status. This IS a letdown...but it's still an enjoyable game. It's a dose of old-school goodness that could've used some more coordination, but I still encourage you to give it a go...even if it doesn't quite live up to its legacy.

The game is rough around the edges, but it is a megaman game regardless of the quality. It is better than some of the original NES games, worse than others.
The difficulty is pretty high, but watching speedruns shows that each situation has a counter that trivializes it. For example, people say that the last boss is harder than even the yellow blob boss in megaman 1 because it shoots out a fountain of heavily damaging projectiles that covers the whole screen; it is normally impossible to not get hit, but spamming the sword slash ability causes all of the boss projectiles to pass right through you. You can go through the whole boss in less than a minute without getting hit knowing this.
Not the greatest, but nothing offensively bad. Physical box comes with a $5 DLC pack for free as well as some art from the game.

The very fun game but extremely hard it will have you pulling out your hair I would recommended a lot of experience with platform gaming like this if you enjoy a challenge.

I was a big fan of the Mega Man and Mega Man X series, so I purchased this game. It's similar, but different and more difficult in my opinion. I've beaten 5 of the Mega Man X games, and 2 or 3 of the original Mega Mans, and I still say this is hard. It is a unique take on the game, but mastering the Xcelerate technique was quite difficult in my opinion. If you like platfomers like this, stick with the redone Mega Man Legacy Collection for PS4, and all smart phones, or, if you still happen to own a PS2 or PS3, PS2 has the Mega Man X Collection and PSN has several of the Mega Man X games that came out on Playstation that I would recommend over this one.

If you're a fan of the Mega Man series, which you likely are if you're interested in this game, I don't think you'll be disappointed for the low asking price. Just be ready for relatively poor graphics and voice acting. Controls are great, boss fights are often great, and the level design overall I would say is average, but hits very high highs and very low lows. I still recommend it and don't regret my purchase.

I just finished playing a couple hours of this game. It definitely has some nostalgia factor and the way it looks and sorta plays out feels like a old school Mega man game. But at the end of the day its not. The mechanics of the game is not the same, it plays more like an arcade-y style game with some mega man themed story and gameplay. Its does feel a bit clunky but other than that it is a great game, just dont know if its worth calling it a mega man successor.

I was a little worried about buying this game given the feedback I've heard. I must say while it doesn't have the high dollar production cost other games have, this one stands tall. If you are a fan of the Blue Bomber, i think you'll like this one. Gameplay is similar, and the fun is there to be had. Not as challenging as its predecessors, but still, a great ride to the end!

WHen it comes to games, it is always important to manage your expectations. This game has been so hyped and delayed, that by the time it released, it failed to measure up to the anticipated. I would say that it is more of a "safe" Megaman type of game. But the backgrounds and graphics could have been better. Considering that another Mega Man game likely isn't coming, Mighty No. 9 is a decent effort for a potential successor.

If you're a Mega Man/Rockman fan like myself, you'll enjoy the game because it feels so familiar. As it should, since Keiji Inafune created both franchises. However, it feels a little uninspired based on what was pitched on Kickstarter nearly 4 years ago. My guess is that Inafune bit off more than he can chew.
Is it worth it? Only if you get it on sale. It's a decent game, but nothing spectacular.

Mega Man fans were very excited by the Kickstarter for this but the results are a bit disappointing. Rather than an old school Mega Man in a modern skin, some remarkably primitive bits are shown almost immediately. They aren't retro so much as amateurish.
Still, if you're a Mega Man junkie and the price is right, this can be your fix for a while.

This game is well designed and a fun, retro feeling platformer. The save points can be frustrating because you need to complete a lot to make progress that will be auto-saved. But overall, I think it's worth it to get a copy.
