    The bare essentials Metroidvania experience!

If you are unfamiliar with the term "Metroidvania" it is a term used to describe (mostly) 2D games that are set in a sprawling platforming world. So imagine a bunch of normal game levels interconnected with corridors and shafts to separate them. There's backtracking throughout to find things that were previously inaccessible like secrets or whole new areas. Momodoro in particular is a difficult but straightforward representation of this style of game. There's upgrades to find but they don't dramatically change the way you engage with the world. You'll still be using your razor sharp leaf to combat enemies. The story is interesting but not complicated. A calamity has fallen over a once great land and you are tasked with stopping it. But the who's and the why's are very much out of reach in the beginning. Through cutscenes and environmental storytelling you begin to understand where everything went wrong. Controls are tight so don't worry about that being the reason you fail. And like I said this game is tough. It has a (sigh) Dark Souls feel to the trial and error of facing bosses. Though checkpoints are never crazy far away and regular enemies don't take long to dispatch. The aesthetics of the game are like gothic cute anime. Cute faces and foes in a very depressing and decaying world basically. It's a contrast that works in it's favor. The soundtrack is VERY well done. When it isn't turnt up for a boss battle its a very moody score that really conveys how far gone the world is. I'm talking some grim "having a beer with death" far gone. Overall I love this game. It really surprised me with how focused and fairly balanced it is. The team behind this really put a lot of heart into this title and it shows in all the details. This Limited Run release also has a reversible box art.

Beautiful art style and flood gameplay, nice 2d platformer with great combat. Difficulty is just right for me but some might have issues with it. Would definitely recommend to purchase and given it's a limited run game just adds to the value.

This little game, challenging, fun, epic, and immersive, leaves you wanting to play more of the series. (At least it did for me.) The controls are pretty simple and tight, the story is very good, the challenges you face need you to put effort in what you are doing, and honestly, this game could be called a hidden jewel.

This game was unexpected for me. I liked the story as well as the artwork. It's a very unusual tower defense game in which there player had to constantly change the weapon for which wave has what minion is weakest to. I generally don't like tower defense games, except plants vs zombies.

I don't know much about the Momodora series, but ended up taking a chance on getting the game anyway, I was surprised with what I played. The combat was fun and the overall story was decent, Though, the graphics were a bit hit or miss for me. The sprites seemed a little to jagged.

I consider myself to be well-versed in platformer/Metroidvania games. The Metroidvania is my favorite genre of game and is the genre I play the most often. The pixel art and animations are very pretty and fluid. The music and atmosphere are also wonderful. The story is interesting. From my understanding, this game takes place before the others in the series. I am heavily considering playing the other games in the series to pick up the story. I think this game is good, but some aspects rub me the wrong way. I think this game is a tad too difficult. There's a fine line between a fun challenge and an aggravating one; Momodora RutM crosses that line for me. Here are a few reasons I think this game is frustratingly difficult: 1) Enemies, especially bosses, can completely drain health in three or four hits, whereas it takes many more to take them down. When fighting bosses, I felt like I couldn't make even one mistake, because one mistake can easily take out half of my health in less than a second. I'd often reset the save if I made any mistakes during boss fights because I knew there was no way I could recover from it. The combat is woefully unbalanced. 2) Saving points are rather scarce, which can make dying in some situations very annoying. 3) The controls are not as responsive or "tight" as other Metroidvanias I have played. There have been many times where my character does something else other than what I wanted to do. I've never had this problem with other Metroidvanias on the Switch (e.g. Axiom Verge, Hollow Knight, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, etc.). 4) I cannot find any option in the menus to lower the difficulty. As far as I can tell, you choose your difficulty at the very beginning and that's it. Maybe there is a way to lower the difficulty. but I can't find it. I don't want to sound like I hate this game—I don't. I still think it's worth picking up if you like Metroidvanias. Just don't expect a game as grand and refined as say, Hollow Knight.
