When you start monstrum you awake on a ship. You have no idea how or why. And as you start to explore you realize not only is there no other people on the ship, there's something else on the ship. Monsters! Your goal? Escape the ship alive in one of 3 ways using a life raft, a helicopter or a submersible. The game gives hints like a small tutorial but other than that you can explore the ship however you want. The game doesn't tell you where to go. Through death and trial and error you figure out what you need for your escape routes. Keep in mind the ship is randomly generated each time you start a game and when you die. The things you had will not carry over. Only the knowledge you learn from your previous playthrough. There are 3 monsters. The hunter, jelly fish like monster that crawls after you, the brute, the big lava monster who has the loudest footsteps ever, and the alien, the floaty monster who has telekinetic powers. All 3 have their unique attacks and music. This game can be fustrating at times as you can get bad rng. It took me quite a few deaths to get my first escape. But once you start learning the monsters, the item spawns and the layout of the ship things get much easier. Notes and audio logs scattered around the ship give some story to what happened but not much. Replay value starts to drop fast after you get your escapes and get all collectables. But overall a good horror game. Worth a look if you like horror games.
