Lots of clichés but the premise of the movie is an interesting one. The steelbook is great though.

I was very impressed with Mortal Engines from the moment the first image hit the screen. The story is unique and engaging. Every scene is brilliantly filmed, acted and directed down to the smallest detail. This is a must see for sci-fi fans.

I was thrilled to see another epic by Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings movies. To be clear, this movie is NOT directed by Peter Jackson but this movie's villain, actor Hugo Weaving, was Elrond in Lord of the Rings. Mortal Engines has the high quality CGI and production value of a Peter Jackson movie. It tries to do too much in one movie, packing in a lot of plot which maybe should have been cut into 2 shorter movies so that they could develop the characters and story better. That said, it takes place in a strange and intriguing future with cities that move and war between different cities. The acting is good - nothing mind blowing but still good. The movie is a little unfocused. Regarding the video and sound quality, both are really good. I'm not going to say this is a must see movie but if the idea sounds interesting to you, I think you're going to like (or maybe love) this movie. I'd recommend it to any big time movie-lovers out there. However, I would not recommend this to people who are NOT easily impressed by CGI or fantasy/science fiction as a genre.

Interesting vision of a dystopian future in an effort to be transparent I will say that I haven’t read the acclaimed Book series so I am basing my review on the movie alone mortal engines is a visually stunning film That manages. To stand out for its creative angle and a time where dystopian future‘s are a popular setting for modern movies your mind is Transported it to their world and the 4K visuals ensue The viewer gets the most out the films cinematography The acting is a bit mixed there are some strong performances while other characters feel flat and under developed The better actors. Carry the movie end it manages to stay entertaining throughout Is the movie flawless? no but it is creative and underrated I would’ve liked to see a 4K steelbook released in the US If you are able separate the movie from the books and temper your expectations you should be pleasantly surprised

Reference quality 4k release from Universal

Color depth overall is much improved, and skin tones, generally, are very healthy and full. There's a significant add to range and nuance across the board. Contrast is boosted quite a bit, almost to the point that the image borders on looking like a cartoon in a couple of places, including Hester's intro scene where the red bandana's color is so deep and the contrasting skin so pasty that despite the obvious add in color depth and textural resolution the character looks almost entirely artificial. Fortunately such extremes are rare. For the most part, the vast increases in both color saturation and textural depth -- even on digital constructs and machinery close-ups that reveal wear and tear with exponentially more detail -- make the image a remarkable UHD specimen. Fang's red attire and airship and Shrike's green eyes are also amongst the standouts for intensity and luminance, the latter in particular against some darker backdrops. Black level depth and density are also improved over the Blu-ray. Noise is kept to a bare minimum and no other source or encode flaws are apparent. This is a new reference quality UHD release from Universal.

I actually enjoyed this more than I expected. The story and most of the acting was serviceable, but other than Hugo Weaving, pretty forgettable. Kind of surprising that the screenplay seemed to barrel straight from one action sequence to another, considering that Peter Jackson and team did such a great job condensing LOTR into coherent, exciting films.
That being said, the visuals were stunning, the grittiness of this world nicely realized, as well as the cobbled together look of the cities. Action set pieces were fun and spectacular.
So, overall, it's lovely to look at, a bit of a pedestrian plot with perhaps one plot point too many crammed into the film.
Enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.

This movie has great CGI and the story-line is entertaining. This movie will require you to summon up all of your suspension of disbelief but it is an entertaining post apocalyptic movie that goes great with a bag of popcorn. I had heard some critical reviews of this movie but if you thought you were going to see some type of documentary you walked into the wrong theater. If you had any understanding of the books or watched the trailer for the movie and were still interested you should enjoy it.

I wasn't certain whether I would like this one before buying it. I took a chance and was happy enough with the movie. It follows London a city turned mobile and a young woman that has a history with one of the men running it. Bent on vengeance, she finds a way into London and tries to assassinate him. She draws a young man into her troubles when he tries to stop her only to be betrayed by the same man.
It sends to the two on a series of adventures as London discovers an old technology many feel would be best left forgotten as he tries to make London the most powerful city in the world.

Yet another post-apocalyptic world with a twist. Where most movies of this type show a dark, depressing city. This movie has all its cities on wheels. From small towns to major cities like London, they all move around. Some try to survive, while others try to gobble up other cities, sending the citizens to slavery and the materials get recycled. The main plot is a rebel trying to bring down the ruling government. The leader of the government get caught doing something wrong and tries to kill the person who saw it. And of course, there's a romance. The effects are amazing.

The premise of this movie is a bit off the wall. The story is predictable. The character development is lacking. Can't say I ever once cared enough for any of the characters that I'd have missed them if they were gone. All THAT said, the visuals are amazing. The acting is pretty good for fantasy. And if you go into watching it with the mindset of just a good summer blockbuster popcorn kind of no-thinking-required movie, I found it to be pretty enjoyable. The audio and video of the 4K version is excellent, though not up to "show off my system with it" levels.

Pleasantly surprised. I had never heard of this movie and happened to run across it while reading something else. Went to the "IMDB," the reviews were pretty good. Still had room on a "Father's Day" gift (Best Buy gift card) so the purchase was made. Enjoyable movie. My youngest had heard of it and had been looking forward to seeing it (so much she entertained buying the book upon which it was based). Yes, a dystopian tale with a twist. Mobile cities? Mobile cities which are predators. Welcome to something new and entertaining.

Given how poorly this movie did at the Box Office, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Yes there are inconsistencies and minor plot failures but overall I enjoyed it. I originally thought this might be some sort of steampunk visualization given how the TV ads went, but it had nothing to do with steampunk. I understand this was derived from a novel series but given how much this movie lost in the BO (but hopefully it did better in dvd and BD sale) I doubt there will be movie sequels to follow the novel sequels.

Interesting futuristic story line of what happens when the wrong people in power get weapons of mass destruction - consequences of the past and repeating it in the future. As one character lamented: did they learn nothing? A good social commentary but not "in your face". The movie, however, seem too short to fully develop the story lines and characters. I wanted to know more about this, more about that person. I wouldn't have minded a longer movie or even Part 1 and Part 2! But, all in all, a good one to watch.

They've really done a great job on this movie. This movie has an excellent post-apocalyptic storyline. It makes you think what our future would actually look like. It has excellent and stunning cinematic affects and you can't stop watching until it is done. The action is excellent and the scenes are beautiful. Getting the 4k with Blu Ray and Digital copy is definitely the way to go and now with Movies Anywhere it makes it easy to watch wherever you go. Best Buy also has the better price now that Amazon is in VA, they charge tax on everything as well. A great thing about purchasing at Best Buy is getting rewards points which you don't get elsewhere. It quickly adds up.

I thought this might be another boring sci fi movie, but I was fascinated by the overall quality of the production. It is based on a post apocalyptic world where cities have become gigantic mobile devices that cannibalize other weaker or slower mobile communities for fuel and survival. The acting is actually good. The special effects are outstanding. It’s a movie I’ve watched several times because I like it. I think the movie is much better than the impression of the movie you get from the trailers. Obviously not everyone will like it, but I think it’s interesting entertainment and I’d recommend it to my friends.
