I have many Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki movies. I love all of them...except maybe this one. Don't get me wrong, this movie is still a wonderfully made movie with a really good story to it, but unlike some of the other Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki movies, this one is mainly just for kids. Other Ghibli/Miyazaki productions such as Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind do "star" children/young adults, but these movies have more adult-type themes to them that older audiences can enjoy as well. This specific movie, My Neighbor Totoro, really deals with the story of how two very young girls are dealing with their mother not being at home with them because she is stuck in a hospital for an extended time for some unknown reason. It's a decent story, but outside of huge anime fans, if you're over the age of 14 or if you aren't experiencing having a parent having to spend an extended stay in a hospital, there's not that much to keep your attention. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion, but I'm being completely honest when I say that unlike all the other Ghibli/Miyazaki movies I have, this one is not going to be getting a repeated viewing unless I've got a certain young girl on the couch next to me demanding to watch this one again.

This movie looks better than ever in HD! It's almost like a whole new movie (same goes w/ Castle in The Sky & Nausicaa, ect) I'm glad Studio Ghibli is finally releasing all their movies on Blu-Ray since I lost ALL my DVDs a few years back I didn't have a single Ghibli film in my collection but that's definitely changing ;p Thanks to the the sale best buy was having @ the time (thanks! Haha) I was able to get a few of my favorites on Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack for a really good price :) All 4 movies I ordered looked AMAZING in HD as well so I'm definitely happy wi/ my purchase! I can't wait to complete my collection in HD! If you've been wanting this movie or to upgrade to HD then now is the time! Same goes w/ any & all of the Ghibli films on Blu-Ray. I promise you will not be disappointed with this movie!

Even though it doesn't feel like there's much of a central conflict in the film, you can't help but be drawn to the lovable Totoro no matter how old you are

My Neighbor Totoro is a wonderful movie with great animation telling a story of two children’s’ adventures to a new pastoral home to be nearer their mother who’s recovering from an illness in the hospital. While exploring, the youngest meets a creature of the forest that she calls Totoro. Like many of Studio Ghibli films, this is mostly a slice of life anime that really captures childlike wonderment and adventure. Highly recommended for all ages. The steelbook is simple but attractive and comes with a short booklet of art and inspiration for the movie.
