My girlfriend got me into Studio Ghibli movies starting with this one, and we then showed it to my daughter and now were both hooked on these movies. Anytime my daughter says she wants to watch a movie, she wants to watch “Totoro”. Its her newest obsession. Its a wonderfully simple movie, with a classic art and animation style. Packaging is beautiful too

Watched this a long time ago when I was still a teenager, good quality, but the movie is a lot shorter than most movies.

    One of the all-time greats

My Neighbor Totoro was first released in Japanese theaters as a double-feature with the Studio Ghibli film Grave of the Fireflies. It was an odd juxtaposition of a simple, lighthearted children's story with a heart-wrenching, tragic children's story. But what both films had in common were they showed the genius of Studio Ghibli. There are no exploding spaceships, no smart-alecky talking animals, no slick computer-generated animations in this film. The animation is simple, the story is simple, and the result is timeless. It's a great film to watch if you're a kid, or if you're a grown up who longs to remember what it was like to be a kid again.

Delight for kids and adults. Family moves to an old house in rural Hapan and the kids start exploring while dad work. The magic and wonder of the natural world and the surprising gentle force of nature. The Totoro is the mystical spirit of the forest. Big furry monster that loves to slilerp. Fly and play fluted in the treetops at night. Do not miss tge cat bus!!! Former scary moments no violence nor explosion. Instead watching raindrops fall. Tadpoles swum. Dust bunnies scatter.

The charm of this internationally recognized animated family tale is very uncommon, and a great contrast to so much other animation! It's quite "Japanese" culturally, with bowing, household duties, etc.; this is another plus, allowing our minds to be opened to other ways. But mostly, it shows how the very young can handle difficult times, thanks to imagination, a bit of adventure, and a sense of hope.

Miyazaki is a fantastic story-teller and animator, and he does not often disappoint. With "My Neighbor Totoro" we get a glimpse at how children see the world in a fun and moving way. Simultaneously childlike and mature in its dealings with the difficulties of life - from moving to a new town to dealing with family illness - "Totoro" is fun, imaginative, and impactful -- in other words, everything Miyazaki!

Definitely one of the many reasons why Ghibli animations ranks as the best anime studios every. Not only are the stories of family and friendship richly detailed in the main characters, but the music and animation support and surround the movie such that it becomes even richer and more heart felt and memorable. Rarely have a watched a Ghibli movie and felt unsatisfied in the end. Well worth watching and having in one's anime collections.

There's little that I can say about this classic Miyazaki film that hasn't already been said. The high quality steelbook for this edition is simple but sharp in its imagery and definitely nice for collecting. The film remains endearing, sophisticated in its animation, and timeless in the conveyance of its themes and character relationships. Recommended!

This is a heart warming movie. You can't help but fall in love with the two sisters. This movie brought me much laughters and tears. It makes me happy every time I watch it. It never gets old. I already had the dvd but then got the blu ray, definitely better quality. I also enjoyed the bonus features, where they interviewed Miyazaki, producer and music composer. I ended up buying 3 more blue ray/ DVDs as gifts. I want to share this masterpiece with others.

This movie is great for several age groups. My preschooler got a huge kick out of the cat bus. My 2nd grader liked it all. It brought up some interesting questions as this movie portrays a different country's culture, but it wasn't inappropriate, just different. I enjoyed seeing the same little coal sprites that I've seen in this film creator's other movies as well. I will watch more by this same film creator.

I was forced to purchase this movie because it is my son's obsession since watching it during its re-release last month. He loves the story because as he says, it has no kiling, no one dies. It is just a sweet story. I wish they made more of these sweet stories for kids. Life is hard enough. Also, way to go Best buy for price matching. Sales person was friendly and helpful when I asked to price match. Great purchasing experience.

Great movie good copy of the Disney version, I had an original VHS that was pre Disney. Paramount I think The words were different enough and we played the vhs enough for my young son now 15 that I have it memorized so it made a little crazy . But not the first dvd copy of the movie Ive had like this

Wow, Studio Ghibli is back at it again in this classic animated movie. I remember seeing this when I was younger growing up and loving it, and after re-watching this, I can see why! Even bigger bonus, G-Kids (The new rights owner of the movies) is doing everyone a solid favor and releasing these for cheaper than the money hungry mouse was. If you don't have it, I recommend going out to get it right away!

    Great Family Film

Totoro is a fantastic film that focuses on family values, namely--among other things--on the importance of parents maintaining a positive demeanor for their children, especially during family crises. The themes of respect, manners, and finding the good in any situation are invaluable to both parents and their children. I would highly recommend this film to anyone with small children or to any child-at-heart who appreciates good story telling.

Definitely a classic up there with any Disney films, a must get for kids. As always, Miyazake’s art is beautiful, his characters and setting relatable, and his positive messages shine through. This is definitely a more light-hearted and child oriented film, and touches well on children’s abilities to cope and handle tough situations. Very heart warming altogether, and a fun watch for the kiddos.
