Excellent Starting Surround Sound

For someone who has never wanted to mess around with audio receivers and wiring up a custom surround sound system this is the perfect solution. The soundbar itself has crystal clear sound and a lot of power behind it, much more than the LG bar I had previously. The subwoofer was larger than expected and I had to move a few things around to make it fit in my living room but matches the soundbar with it's great sound and power. The side speakers are a little bit on the weaker side with most media (such as streaming Netflix) but when playing 4k blu rays they provide great true surround sound. Watching Jurassic Park and other 4k blu rays with this sound system was a game changer. I would highly recommend this system to anyone who wants true surround sound straight out of the box and at a fair price point.

I was so thrilled to get this system. Watching Blu ray movies at home made it to a new level. It is money well spent. The sound is unbelievable. It is sounds way better then my previous Bose system.

Great Sound and Features

This soundbar packs a huge punch. The two outward facing speakers on the left and right side really help to envelop you with sound. The subwoofer is on the bigger side compared to other systems but it produces really clean sounding bass. The best thing about this soundbar aside from the sound quality is that there are 4 HDMI ports to allow you to plug all your devices in directly instead of having to rely on ARC to control your devices.

This sound system works great and is much cheaper than trying to get a professional system that costs thousands of dollars. It really does give the surround sound effect with the rear speakers.
Few tips - Make sure you follow setup directions to a key, otherwise it won't sound right. Also be aware that not everything is playable in surround sound.

The system is super easy to set up and operate! Wireless connectivity gives you great flexibility to accommodate for different room layouts. The sound is very clear and base fills up the room very good. Side speakers add a great effect of presence. Highly recommended!

This Surround sound system is always very loud and good in a big or small room. It is very powerful and you can feel the sound coming out of the subwoofer and the soundbar it self. In conclusion it has very good sound.

I shopped hard for a new sound system---online and to the store multiple times. Bought a Sony, had a problem, support was awful, returned it for a refund. I realized I wanted a system with no compromises and loads of features. Chose Nakamichi. So happy I did. True surround sound. Nice looking speakers. Lots of bells and whistles. Note: some people have problems setting these up....but never fear; the system comes with superior documentation, updated on the website. Plus the phone and e-mail support is terrific (in part because it is a small company, they can't afford to have Sony's attitude). Extra bonus--system is software upgradeable. So what you bought isn't static, over time it will get even better.

I have to say I was skeptical going in. After getting the sound dialed in I am really impressed. The rear channels blend in so good sometimes I turn my head over my shoulder thinking the sound was coming from other places then what's playing. Looking forward to the dtsx update soon!

I love this soundbar. The sound is amazing. When I watch a action movie or a horror movie it's just awesome. Sound coming from everywhere, good bass, and excellent voice clarity. Love it!

Spend the extra to get something good like this

I was going to buy a $200-300 system but I decided the room was too big for something like that. I have had systems that you have to turn way up to hear what people are saying. Having a new baby, that was really annoying. You can put this system in voice mode that amplifies the voices of the characters. I could go on forever about the system but there is no need. The sound is amazing and they are offering a firmware update soon that's supposed to make it even better. A+

One of the main reasons I bought this system was for the surround speakers. They did not disappoint. The remote gives you an option to turn them on and off as well as voice sync for times that audio is off when people are talking. The bass on the unit is also a great benefit of this speaker system. I highly recommend it for how small it is as well.

HDMI out quit working

Purchased this sound system 8 months ago and loved it, but the HDMI out has suddenly stopped working when I was playing my PS4 last night. The sound bar is on, but I cannot get any picture or sound anymore with any of my devices. I've tried resetting everything and I switched the HDMI cable out, but nothing has worked. I called Nakamichi's support line, and they only told me to unplug everything and wait 15 minuted before hooking back up. When that didn't work, they said they would call me back, but they never did. It's still under the 1 year manufacturers warranty, so I will try to get it repaired or replaced, and update my review after I go though that experience. It's frustrating to have something you spent nearly $700 on only work for 8 months, and then turn into a big pile of junk.

Excellent Sound Quality...However

My biggest frustration is that the volume increases whenever I am using the TV remote to surf onto the internet channels (i.e. Netflix or Amazon Prime) or when I am using the cable remote channel surf or to fast forward my recorded shows.
It is very frustrating to have the volume set at 35 and then it jumps to 75, every time I change a channel or fast forward through the commercials.
I have the sound system connected through the HDMI (ARC) inputs.
Please advise.

Brand response from Nakamichi Support

Hi, you must be using Chartered or Verizon cable. Their remote IR frequency is ultra wide and interferes with the soundbar. Simple fix. Please update the firmware of your soundbar using this link: https://www.helpdesk.nakamichi-usa.com/firmware-upgrade-pro71 . Let us know if you have any other issue by emailing [email protected] .

The unit is compact, connects well with other components and the sub plus rear satellites are a nice, impactful addition. The sub connects wirelessly and the satellites connect with wires to the sub. It has a nice, large remote as well.
