Aurora by Nanoleaf: Well designed and clever

I watched the movie Ex Machina and loved the set design and the way color dominated the sparse furniture and accessories of the billionaires lodging, I wanted to create the same visual experience in my home but had no idea where to begin. I ran across the Aurora in a future tech article and it nailed the look I desired; vibrant, transmutable and geometric. It is a step forward in home lighting and design. Many won't 'get it' but for those that do it is what we've been waiting for. One recommendation, have some touch up paint on hand for your walls.

I absolutely love the Nanoleaf Aurora. Its awesome and there is so many different scenes you can create and add. It looks so cool on the wall. It works with HomeKit, and I heard its coming to Amazon Echo as well soon. I can't wait to get more panels for it, and make a bigger design. Looks awesome in my sons gaming room!!

Works with HomeKit, I use it as an indicator of events going on in the house. Garage door patio and front door lock status. Each condition has a specific panel that changes color.

We bought the Aurora because in our living/dinning area we don't have any lights. The Aurora is perfect to illuminate the area and/or create an ambience. We love it!

Nanoleaf Aurora has taken my man cave to a completely new level. You must order the Nanoleaf Rhythm. That takes Aurora to a completely new level.

What a cool concept. Love these lights and especially the fact that you can reconfigure as many times as you want. ( just get more mounting tape) just be careful not to snap the connectors when taking them off the wall.

Bought this Aurora some time ago and somehow felt compelled to write a review about it, it is very easy to set up, the panels connect to each other very easily but once you stick them to the wall or on another surface it will be a little difficult to readjust, good in my opinion as i never had to, they stood in place and they were ready for pairing. This is where the issues with this product are, i managed to connect it with my home but kept falling in and out of reach to the point where it disconnected itself and didn't want to be paired again, had to restart it and restart it just for it to pair and sync with all the other lights in my house. Until I decided it wasn't worth the struggle and kept all the light settings i wanted saved and pushed the button manually to change the scenes. I love these lights but if you don't want to go through dropped connections i recommend you wait until the next version. Somehow they just work with me and turning them on manually isn't much of a hassle because of where i placed them.

Saw this online, thought hmmm gotta check it out. The positive extremely easy to setup, very bright, cool features and options. The negative? Just the price way to high for what you get. Luckily I had coupons and best buy rewards only paid 100.

I bought these when they went on sale which is rare, and feel they are still a bit expensive and not for everyone, but boy are they cool. Setup was a breeze and I had no problems mounting them on my lightly textured walls with the supplied tape. The lights are very bright, even in the day time they are easily visible with a brightly lit room. At night, if you leave them at full brightness your whole room will be lit up. I have them set up with IFTTT for "movie lights" which dims them to about 10-20% and changes to a tron-esque theme so they aren't as distracting. The app works, although the UI is a bit poor with it. Took me forever to figure out how to edit something once I added it. It's a non intuitive side swipe, really weird. You can browse scenes other people created easily enough although the preview seems to only work 75% of the time and to be honest, 90% of them are horrible. You're better off finding something you think is decent, and then just modifying it yourself, or just starting from scratch. As far as colors, I'm definitely happy with the range they offer and variations they can put out, although there are definitely shades here and there (mostly light pastels) that in no way even come close to matching the swatch. Overall I had some money to burn and I'm happy with them. They get a ton of compliments as well.

This thing is pretty pricey but man is it cool. I love the way it looks on my wall. Use the floor and lay out your pattern so you can see exactly what it's gonna look like on your wall. Very easy to use although with mine, I went and got some small command strips and used them to mount it on the wall. That way it's easy to take off if I want to without the need of dental floss to break the bond and risk damaging the wall.

This was what my son wanted for Christmas. They are beautiful when lit!!! Totally changes the mood of the smallest of quarters. Actually, Star Trek fans would love these things. Given 4 stars due to the quirkiness of pairing to an android device. Also, wait till the the big unit goes on sale rather than pay $60.00 for 3 tiles in the expansion pack. You can run 30 tiles off one main unit. The main unit comes with 9 tiles and the plug/pair unit. This brings the price dramatically down. Further, you CANNOT 90 degree a turn say, from a wall to the ceiling with one connection as Nanoleaf shows on their website. But my teenager loves them!!!! They really cheer him up.

Well, I'm up to 27 tiles and it's totally worth it! I have all sorts of smart home tech, but this is my newest favorite. Very bring, sleek/modern, easy setup and very cool functionality. If you're looking to drop some $ on a stellar art piece, buy it!

So this was a total impulse buy. I went in for something else and saw these sitting on the shelf. The lights are so easy to install. I did have a bit of an issue connecting them to wifi with my phone. I ended up using my wife's phone without any problem. The lights work great. The app is very responsive and I love that you can use voice controls via Siri to turn the lifts on and off, along with many other controls. The cord is very long (almost too long for us), but I imagine if you want to hang these really high that would be handy. I'm actually interested in buying the extra tiles for these. I'd like to see the price come down a bit before, but I'm a huge fan nonetheless. It's not a must have item. But it does have that cool factor.

    Awesome Product, So-So App

I love this product and it gives my place a modern look and feel. The lights are awesome and the numerous scenes that can be created are crazy. The only downside is the accompanying app which is not the most intuitive or user friendly. I also use the Apple Home app and Light DJ (app that allows lights to change with music) which all work well together until a scheduled task occurs then the Aurora doesn't know what to do and won't allow me to make any changes to it unless I use the Aurora app. I have several Phillips Hue lights that I also use these same apps with and those don't have the same problem, which tells me that it's something to do with the Aurora itself or it's app. The only way to fix the issue that I've found is to turn the Aurora on/off several times before it will begin doing what I ask it to do. Lastly, the double sided adhesive strips that accompany the Aurora are very strong...so strong that I attempted to change the layout of the lights and when I did it also took some of the sheetrock from the wall as well which I had to patch. Maybe next time they will figure out a better soutlion. Overall the lights are awesome and I would buy them again, but the app glitches and too strong adhesive strips bring the rating down a notch for me.

Does anybody need this? No. But you won't regret buying it either. It's bright, colorful, and highly customizable. Mine came with double-sided adhesive but I used Command strips to mount to the wall, so no worries about stripping paint off if/when I decide to move it. I love how there's infinite color patterns, different brightness levels, and speeds between the transitions. I use voice commands through Alexa (works with Siri and Google Home as well) to turn on/off, set brightness, and change scenes. I've also got it scheduled through the app to turn on right before I wake up, and grouped together with my Philips Hue lights. A common complaint is that these are expensive, but I really don't think so. If you consider one Hue color bulb costs $50, then 9 Aurora panels for $200 really isn't that bad. (Actually got mine on sale for $150). The only negative is that the power cable looks a little out of place on the wall, but I'll take care of mine with a cable concealer painted the same color as the wall. I'm already thinking of other places I can put additional ones in my home. Two big thumbs up from this gadget geek.
