Large Data Requirements, but Worth It!

The hardcopy of the game still requires a 6-7GB download before you can even play and requires a mircoSD card to hold the download. The save file is also very large at 5GB. However, once the game is all downloaded and ready to go, it's awesome! The frame rate is not what you would see on the PS4 or XBOX One, but where this game sets itself apart is the mobility on the Switch. I have enjoyed the game both docked on the big screen, and in full mobility mode while traveling. Note, an internet connection is required to play many of the modes.
Overall the game has played great, is challenging, and contains so many small details that it continues to wow me. The MyCareer mode plays like a GTA open world map where you need to complete objectives to upgrade your player.
The main knock on the game is the glitches that sometimes occur, requiring me to exit out of the game and re-load. Also, load times are longer than what i was expecting and the raw data that this game requires (even when playing the physical game copy) is intense.
Overall, it's a great game and it's awesome to see sports games on the Switch! Common Madden, where you at!!!

Graphics: Handheld 5/5 , docked 4/5
Gameplay: 4/5
Replayability: 5/5
Overall Value: 4/5
Pros: Handheld on the go sports, great game overall
Cons: Download time/size
I was a little sceptical buying this game based off some of the reviews i was reading. My biggest concern was the size of the game and the quality of game play compared to xbox or ps4. After playing the game for about a week now i can say with confidence this is a great game amd worth the money.
Game Size: yes, its very large and yes it did take an hour to download before I could play. I have had to wait longer on downloading xbox games, i think waiting for a game to download an hour or two has become a standard. That is not enough to deter me from buying this game.
I bought an additional memory card just for this game. Yes, it makes this game more expensive. But lets be real, at somr point you will need additional memory cards for your switch, that is inevitable. I have always wanted a legitamite sports game handheld and on the go. This finally fulfills a long time want of mine and was able to over look the download time and extra memory for that reason.
The game play is amazing, grapics on the go are sweet, looks crisp, movement is clean and the gameplay is great. I could not tell much of a difference betweem the switch version and my xbox version. I cant wait to see what sports game on the switch has in store for us in the future, this is an amazing start.

Great Experience for a Handheld!

I have the Xbox One version as well, and it's really quite a feat that they were able to cram pretty much the same experience into a portable. Graphics are amazing for a handheld, and most of the game modes are there. Controls are the same as they are for larger consoles, so it's easy to just pick up and play if you've been a fan of the series int he past.
The biggest issue I have with the game is that it only runs at 30fps instead of 60fps like on the Xbox One and PS4. You do get used to it after a bit, but it does feel less responsive than the console versions. I honestly rather take a hit on graphics in order for it to run at a higher frame rate. Overall though, I applaud 2K for a really great console-like experience on a portable machine.

This game is excellent and is super fun to play. There is one major annoyance, and that is that when you buy the physical version of the game, you still have to download the game onto your SD card (16.1GB) before you can play which takes up storage and seems unnecessary since they could have put the entire game onto the physical game cart instead. If I had known this, I probably would have not waited for the physical release and just bought the digital version instead. It just seems like 2K decided to save a buck on each sale and not really have a physical version. I feel cheated but on the flip side, the game is awesome! I considered giving it a lower rating but my wife kept asking me, "Do you like the game?", and well, I love it. Just annoyed.

Full Blown NBA 2k 18 on the go!

Full Blown NBA 2k 18 on the Switch. You'll be real surprised on how well this game looks and runs on the switch... Even at a native 720p, this game looks awesome, players are well animated. Space requirements arnt a Issue for me. AS long as we get great 3rd Party support like this, an 128GB micro SD Card can go a long way for anyone. I play this Game in all of the Switch modes, Portable, Tabletop, and Docked. In Docked mode I play it on a Big Screen 4k TV and a Gaming Monitor. Yes it's 720p Native Game. Looks totally awesome to me. Some Critics/Gamers need to relize that this a full Blown X86 Desktop/Console Game running on a Mobile Chipset, That alone is a major Accomplishment and Feat. The Game isn't perfect, there are a few tiny glitches in the Cutscenes in between Quarters. However no glitches or slow downs during Gameplay. the Tiny glitches don't take out from the gameplay. Yes 30fps for a 2k game, veteran 2k Gamers will notice, But will adapt to it more than likely, It's a Stable smooth 30fps during Gameplay. In handheld and tabletop mode, the game is a little bit more sharper due to the 6.2 high quality 720p native Screen. In no way that I found that this game was blurry in Docked mode. I would have loved if this game ran at 60fps, Who knows whats in store in the future as devs continue to explore/optimize for the switch hardware, it's not even a year yet as of this review.. Overall I totally reccomend NBA 2k18 for the switch for those that either want it on the go or don't have it for the other systems... Physical Version a total amount of 19.26GB total is needed, that's 3gb of Internal Switch Space for the Save File and 16GB on the SD Card, thats with the physical version, just wanted to put that out there. Totally reccomend the Gamers Club from Best Buy also, Thanks Best Buy...

Had it on PS4, the frame rate difference is VERY noticeable however not as bad in handheld mode. The graphics are amazing and so is the ability to take the full 2k experience on the go. Worth it if you are a basketball fan and have a switch.
If I could only chose one version, I would go switch over PS4 simply for the play anywhere ability.

Amazing job on porting this to the Nintendo switch. Even though it's 30 FPS compared to 60 FPS on the other consoles, gameplay is still just as smooth. Yes, the VC currency/microtransactions are a problem here, but gameplay wise, it's still a great basketball game.

The gameplay, graphics and the general package here is good.
Micro transactions and monetization really hurt this game, they nickel an dime you to the extreme. Take Two should have gone for a larger cart as well.

Before I begin: This is not the exact experience as on XB1, PC and PS4. The framerate is locked to 30 FPS, MyCareer cutscenes are choppy, graphics are slightly downgraded and the online experience has been largely hit or miss (but that's been the case on all platforms). Those who want to upload their own custom logos for expansion teams are also out of luck.
Drawbacks aside, this is the complete NBA 2K experience you'll find elsewhere, and it's nothing short of miraculous that 2K was able to cram this much into the Switch version. Commentary, MyLeague, teams, players, arenas, and all the "little things" you expect are all there if you can look past what this port doesn't offer.
Very highly recommended. This is how you do a third-party port for Switch. I only hope other publishers and developers follow suit.

Takes forever to get up and going with the giant install. Make sure you have an SD card in your system ready to go with a lot of space before you buy this! It's a fun game with a lot of modes and options. It takes a while to get the hang of making baskets. Don't be surprised if you get blown out in your first few games. Overall, a really nice effort. Hoping for more good sports games on Switch like this!

For the Switch, everything is here as far as content and it runs just as well as on the other systems even if it is at a slightly lower frame rate. As far as the actual game goes however, it doesn't play as well as last years NBA game and the controls feel a bit off. Try and play it before you decide to buy it or not.

The game is good. If you like sport games and basketball games, this is a pretty good port. It plays well and all the mechanics are there. The gameplay feels fluid and I enjoy taking the game on the go.
Why the 3 stars? First, microtransactions. Because of this ridiculous system that is present in FREE TO PLAY games and shouldnt be in a game that I paid SIXTY DOLLARS on, MyCareer is such a grind earning a small sum each game and forcing me to play 12 min quarters for an extra 100 VC is BS. The loading times are atrocious, which wouldn’t be so bad except almost everywhere you go the game has to load. You can’t raise skills at a decent pace because you need high stats, you can’t get high stats until you earn VC, you can’t earn decent VC unless you play and win games, you can’t win games if you don’t have good stats and skill badges. It’s a vicious cycle in a never ending loop.
It’s hard to say to recommend this game. If you don’t care about MyCareer or MyGM and only play exhibition with friends, this is a good port. Otherwise, maybe wait for a deep sale.

I preordered this game back in July and my son couldn't wait for it. Although it was pushed back from September to October. My son was upset about that. He enjoys this game very much o the switch. Although at first he had to wait about 2 hours for the downloaded content he got from the preorder. Graphics look modern and clear. He is having lots of fun with it.

This game runs nicely on the Switch, its only drawback being the need for extra storage even when purchasing the physical copy.
Nevertheless, I recommend this game over any other AAA sports games on Switch so far, it's everything you would expect from a NBA 2k game and more, a true delight to play on the go.

There are some negative reviews out there, but so far It has been a good experience. Graphics when undocked look good, but things don't look as good when blown up on a larger TV, but still good enough. There seems to be a little more delay on input from my controller to reaction on the screen. But the amount of content, and options is insane for a game such as this on a system that has the ability to be portable. If you like Basketball, don't hesitate. It is a good game, with good graphics when taking into account the system.

When I first heard that 2k18 was coming to the Switch, I knew I was going to get it no matter what as I follow the NBA quite closely and no longer play Playstation or Xbox games. Overall the game plays very well on the Switch. there are a few graphical bugs that hopefully get patched soon. Other than that, the only problems I have fall in the the MyCareer mode of the game. It takes forever to level up your player so you have to be patient in doing all the practices after each match to help progress your player's skills. Also there are too many pointless cutscenes of your player interacting with other players and fictional characters within the game. Other than that, the actual on court gameplay is very fun and exciting with nothing really negative to point out in that regard.

Great game, love all the game modes. Surprisingly impressed with graphics compared to the PS4 version, it holds it's own! Sure it's not 60 fps, but I don't seem to notice much and I love being able to take this on the road. Another great title from 2K.

Absolutely worth every penny full NBA 2k18 on Switch, I'm new to the franchise and all I can say it's a lot to do in the game, extremely hard even on rookie, but I'm a new player, must own for any switch owner
