This game really utilizes the co op capabilities of the switch. U can have the 2k experience anywhere which makes the game and system valuable.

    Tons of potential...but ultimately flawed

    |
    Posted .

Let's get the positive stuff out in the open first, this is a great game. All the gameplay, on-court mechanics work like you'd expect...this is truly NBA 2k in your pocket, not your grampa's old iOS port touchscreen mess. In terms of graphics, the difference from the console version to the Switch version is minimal due to the much smaller screen. Things still look fairly sharp and acceptable. A few of the games details have of course been lost due to the difference in raw power of your everyday console, so don't expect to see the sweat dripping from your player's faces, but they made sure the drop in in-game graphics quality is hardly noticeable when your running up and down the court constantly. Now for the negatives: 1a. Requirement for an SD card. Yes it is on the game cover but forcing people to have to invest in additional storage to make up for poor game developer choices is bad form. They could have easily opted for a higher capacity switch game cartridge which could have housed the game, additional content and done away the "additional storage" requirement all together. If this was a way to increase their margins on the game, that would be just horrible. More on this storage debacle below. 1b. As soon as you launch the game, it asks you to download a whooping +16GB update file...for any switch owner that plans to do more than play 2K and not play any other game...this is fine, but if I was thinking "at least now I have extra storage for other games on my sd card too...you've got another thing coming...2K18 is here to make short work of your sd card's precious gigabytes. 1c. Game saves are gigantic 5GBs on a 32GB console? No wonder a microSD card is required. Seems like someone dropped the basket-"ball" (had to do it haha) during the development phase of this game and just didn't care about the efficiency of their game save system. Again, kiss that additional storage you thought you had for other games goodbye. 2. The need for the game to be always connected to the 2K servers practically cripples the game in terms of why people buy 2K games. It practically renders the MyCareer unplayable if you're on the go which is the Switch's main selling point, and don't even think of letting your Switch go into sleep mode in the middle of a game in your MyCareer, because guess what, now your game is over because the connection to the server is broken. Rather than just limit what you can do in MyCareer while you're in let's call it "Offline-mode" and allow you to continue with the core of what we've come to expect what MyCareer mode is, let alone let you finish an in-progress game, it decides that "Heyyy you probably don't want to play 2K anymore because you've taken 2 steps out of the vicinity of an available WiFi connection let me end that game for you.". Sure you can start a separate game for offline play, but guess what...that's another 5GB chunk out of your storage...again...man this game is a "ball hog" when it comes to storage, and is staring to seem like the needy partner in this relationship when it comes to having to be always connected. Like, bro sometimes I want to take a walk on my own outside and pretend like I'm playing basketball outside on my Nintendo Switch...is that too much to ask? So to sum up this a a true 2K basketball game, ruined only by its poor implementation and execution on the Switch, so buy this game at your own risk.

Fun game. Graphics aren’t as good as on a PS4 or Xbox but it’s great to be able to play on the go.

    I can finally dunk

    |
    Posted .

I love basketball but I have always been the last to be picked. Even when I played as the fill in on my son's church league they picked me last. I am 35. They are 6. I had to show them what's up, The first time I got the ball I knocked half of them to the ground and leaped through the air to crush a jordan style dunk, but the ball was stuffed by the rim. They had it at 6ft, I personally think it should have been at the 5ft mark because then I would have def dominated that dunk. Afterwards I felt bad because my kid sprained his ankle when I landed on him and my ego was hurt so I stopped at Best Buy to pick up this game. I dunked within the first five minutes because I am the Alfa in our household.

    High Tech Washer/Dryer

    |
    Posted .

My last washer and dryer I got in 1983, I guess it was time for a new MayTag set. I had no idea how high tech they are today. I was amazed at how it senses how much water to use by the amount of clothes is in the washer and then it dispenses detergent, softener and bleach automatically as it’s needed. When clothes were finished washing and drying I was impressed!

    Fun Game

    |
    Posted .

I have recently become a basketball fan again and wanted a game that would help me stay that way! This game is it. I will be honest and say that it has been awhile since I had a bball video game so i do not have much to compare this too but I will say this...the game is fun, challenging and looks great on my Switch. I have yet to play on a regular TV but I believe it will be fine. Buying this on sale was only that much better!! Enjoy

    NBA 2(Go)K!

    |
    Posted .

I must say that this game looks and plays pretty amazing on Nintendo Switch! All of the bugs have seemed to been squashed with the latest updates. The amount of content and options in game are a bit overwhelming, but you can still just pick up and play fairly easily. As always, having it on the go in portable form is just icing on the cake. Make sure you have a large micro SD card installed in your Switch as this game requires a good amount of memory.

They did a pretty good job on this for year one

    |
    Posted .

2K did a really commendable job on bringing their entire game intact to the Switch. It actually runs and looks pretty good and has the entire feature set of the other console's versions. It was rough out of the gate but since all the patches fixed the video/audio issues its a well playing experience. It can regularly be had for under $30 so if you like hoops and want them on the go this is nearly as good as it gets.

In my opinion best version to own

    |
    Posted .

NBA 2K18 is a great basketball game to own on any console but the Switch version has better value in my opinion. It is the same game that you play on any other console it just has a bit less graphics. I can take it anywhere and play NBA solo or with friends. The game does have problems but its with the game not the console its on meaning that it has the same problems across any console. So if you have a Switch and PS4/XBOX I still highly recommend the Switch version.

An upgrade on 2K17 but not by much

I'm glad to see a 2K game on Switch, the portability definitely is a huge draw. However, if you are a die-hard 2K fan, the other versions are definitely better. But as a die hard Switch fan myself, I really do appreciate being able to play this game on the go.

    Value purchase for intended purpose

    |
    Posted .

Purchased for small room where exercise equipment is placed. Also for docking Nintendo Switch and XBox One. Built in Roku is a big feature since we cut the cord last year and use Sling as primary TV provider. Color is better than expected but you know it's a 60hz refresh rate which is ok but not great for gaming. My son loves it all the same and @ $219 sale price, quite the bargain.

Excellent game with few minor bugs

NBA 2K18 for Switch is a great game to be able to play on the go. It contains the same features as the PS4 and Xbox versions, but has the added portability. It does seem to suffer with a few bugs in the sound quality, hence the imperfect rating.

Great to see Sports games on the Switch!

It's nice to see basketball on the Switch, especially, the 2K series. Do know that you definitely need a memory card to play this game. There are a lot of downloads/updates before you can begin playing. I like that this is available on the Switch. It won't blow you away with its graphics, but it's a fun basketball game with the latest NBA rosters.

    Great handheld Basketball

Based on other reviews, I was a bit worried about how this game would run on the Switch. However, after playing a dozen or so games, I am glad I picked this one up. The 30 FPS has been a non-issue for me. There is a seemingly slight delay in shooting when using the 2k camera, but it's not a game breaker. Overall, it's really astonishing to be able to play a full-fledged NBA game on my Switch on the go.
