When I first heard about Nebraska I wasn't sure if it was something I'd enjoy but eventually I decided to check it out and turned out it was a good decision. Shot entirely in black & white, this film follows what a determined Woody (Bruce Dern) will do to collect what he thinks is a million dollar prize. His son Dave (Will Forte) decides the only way his dad is going to give up on this mission is to just take his dad to Nebraska to collect the prize. While on their way to Nebraska they have a few adventures including a visit with family that they hadn't been to see in a number of years. This movie is bout funny and sad and is definitely worth taking a look at, if you want to view a good movie, Nebraska is the movie for you!

First off, I was surprised at how funny this film is. The previews did not make this known. You will laugh til you cry! The colourful characters in this film remind me of the movie Fargo, they've all got their funny quirks.
The plot isn't very complicated: a father believes he won $1 million from Publisher's Clearing House, and the son agrees to drive him to Nebraska to prove that he didn't win anything (because the father dangerously tries walking there himself). Along the way they learn things about each other, and even stop in the old town where the Dad grew up, to meet up with old family.
In my opinion, this was the best film of 2013: it's touching, funny, and brilliantly written and filmed. You may be surprised how great of a dramatic actor Will Forte is too!

Bruce Dern gives a noteworthy performance in Alexander Payne's incredible "Nebraska." The plot itself is simple, allowing the characters to shimmer and shine for themselves, without being weighed down by cliches and typical Hollywood storytelling. It's a heartfelt and honest look at family and the lives the our mothers and fathers, what they did right and what they did wrong. Dern is flawless and pulls you in with every scene. His wife, played by June Squibb, is performed with hilarious grace. Will Forte plays our protagonist, dealing with and coming to terms with his father. Filmed in beautiful black and white, I won't stop thinking about this film for a very long.

Oscar Worthy

Overall Nebraska is a very cool movie worthy of its Oscar nomination. It is one of those slightly more "pretentious" Oscar nominees, relying heavily on its "under-the-radar", indie vibe and black and white cinematography. The film relies heavily on its feel and acting. Some may find the plot slow and uninteresting, but if you stay with it you'll find a heartfelt plot with supreme acting.

it was good of the filming industry to have a seasoned actor such as Mr Bruce Dern play in a starring role for this movie Nebraska . He has not had a major acting role in quite a few years . The movie or DVD was purchased due to the fat that the producers had chosen Mr Bruce Dern as a lead role as in the past , his acting and roles played make great impact on the movie being produced .

Nebraska was released to critical acclaim, and it was well deserved.
Pros -
Impeccably acted, by everyone involved.
Grandly photographed. Gorgeous to behold.
Reveals much, without necessarily articulating it.
Perceptive, an incredibly rendered slice of life
Cons -
Now that this one is done, it will be a while before Alexander Payne has another movie. And that is the only negative thing I have to say.
Do yourself a favor and check out this film.

This is basically a black and white film about an hermit father that has given up on his family. He has a bogus ticket to claim a million dollars which he has to claim by a certain time. He will not let anything stop him to get to Nebraska to claim it. This creates tension and surprises for his estranged family members.

This movie is excellent and worth watching. It is in black and white thou. At first I thought my TV was broken until I figured out it was the movie itself. I guess the producer shot it in black and white to emphasize the desolation of the characters and environment. You could consider it art.

This black and white film takes you into the life of an aging father who thinks he won a million dollars. Of course, it's one of those 'You MAY be a winner...' letters, and his family tries to tell him so. A believable journey unfolds as one of his sons agrees to take him on his quest to claim the money. It's low key, but if you're into character study, this one is well worth it.

Alexander Payne's father-son drama has enough comedy to balance the emotion. A touching film, part road trip, part family drama. Bruce Dern is convincing as a scatterbrained, elderly man trying to prove himself as his son (Forte) is also trying to prove himself to his father. This film has a lot of heart.

Well written, cast is excellent and well chosen. A little dark at times, sad at other times, thinking of lost opportuities, perhaps wasted life(ves). Other times funny and humorous. Hardly more than a perceived nitch or a cross-section of very rural America,...or is it?

This film is very unique in it's own way. It is shot in black and white and has great film quality. Has a very deadpan sense of twisted humor. Overall, a good watch and good story line about a young man trying to get through to his distant father.

Bruce Dern gives a fantastic performance as a man who thinks he won a sweepstakes. Will Forte plays his level headed son who plays along to appease his fathers wishes. They go on a trip and meet old friends who all want a piece of the pie. When they finally reach their destination, they realize the prize isn't all it's cracked up to be.

This movie is a must see. Bruce Dern is excellent in this movie. The plot line of this movie is a old man named Woody who receives a letter in the mail that he has won one million dollars and needs to get to Omaha to collect (a scam). So goes with Son on a trip from Montana to Omaha Nebraska and get into trouble along the way.

Reminded of when I took care of my parents. And the bond I had with them. Sometimes they would be a little cranky and I would be too, but the spirit was great and seeing how teh characters are in this movie simply took me back a few years.

The characters in this movie are seemingly down to earth but delightfully quirky. By the end of the movie, you feel like you have known people like this but overlooked how memorable they were. The black and white photography is absolutely fantastic. This is one of the most memorable movies I have seen for years.

I enjoyed this movie overall. It was fun and well acted, but slow at times. The black and white was a nice way to make it surreal, but the actors portray their characters in a very real and consistent manner. Highly recommended.

It's a very funny movie dealing with a serious health issue. Characters are realistic and so is the plot. I laughed out loud and yet felt empathy with the family. Acting was superb. Bruce Dern should have received an Oscar. It's a movie one can enjoy more than once. Have it in your video library.

This movie is interesting. I liked it and i hated it. i think if it were in color it would have been better . Directors seem to thing black and white makes us draw certain conclusions that frankly are not true.
