    Trouble from the start

Bought it at BB March 2018 to replace a Linksys that had worked well for 5 years before an electrical storm took it out. The Netgear AC1200 R6220 always required rebooting, and I never took the time to contact Netgear for help because, well, calling for tech support is never something you have time to do. But, the service has gotten so bad that it now disconnects at least a few times an hour, requiring rebooting. It is also dropping phone calls. I will never buy Netgear again. I have a small 2 story house, 1800 sq. ft. with only 2 people using the Internet.

    Buy a different router

Purchased the Netgear R6220 router as an upgrade from our old N band router; big mistake. The range on this router is atrocious, whether in 2.4 or 5ghz. We had negligible signal loss with our old N band router, but the Netgear only makes it halfway across our 1800 square foot single story house before the signal drops sharply. Recently started to receive error messages when going online; plugged computer directly into modem and the problem went away. Called Netgear to troubleshoot and they said they'd send a technician to fix it at MY expense. For a five month old router, this is completely unacceptable. I will not purchase another Netgear product after this experience. I recommend either paying more for a better (different brand) AC router, or just getting a high end N band router.

    Drops Signal

Bought it during black Friday sale. Has good range the wi-fi signal is strong. However it keeps dropping the signal. This happens every 4 to 6 hours. When the problem occurs I do not see the SSID for the 2.4 GH network at all so cannot connect to to. I do see the 5 GHz SSID being broadcasted but cannot connect to it. The problem gets resolved when I restart the router but reoccurs again in 4 to 6 hours time. I have had this for 4 days now and i see the same pattern. Verified to make sure i have the latest firmware. Will be returning it to best buy. To make sure that it is not because of a flaky internet connection i brought another Netgear router and have not had it for 2 days the signal did not drop even a single time. Netgear needs to fix the issue with this router, i did see that someone else also had the same problem. Srini

    Netgear Not a Reliable Brand

My friend bought this exact same router several months ago when moving into his new home. This router would not set up properly for him - none of the ports were receiving/sending signal. He warmed me against buying this. I thought to myself, "meh, his unit must have been a fluke. I'll get one and it'll be just fine." When the ISP technician arrived to set up the internet, I was able to connect the ethernet from my computer directly into the modem and the internet worked just fine, but as soon as we connected the router to the modem and the computer to the router, the internet would not work. Save yourself some time and headaches and just get the Linksys AC1200 instead. It's the same price, same Wifi signal, set up is easier, and it works better.

    Incompatible with Microcell

I spend two days trying to configure this router with my home network. I encountered several problems, the main one being that it would not recognize the ATT microcell that connects via ethernet cable to the router. I tried reconfiguring router settings, spent hours online looking at suggested remedies, re-set to factory specs, etc. etc. After wasting too too many hours I returned it to Best Buy and exchanged it for a similar model made by Linksys. My ATT microcell was recognized immediately - no reconfiring necessary. Regarding the Netgear router - the second problem was that when I'd shut down my computer, my phone would be dropped from it's wireless connection. Avoid this Netgear router!

    Junk

Terrible. The first one, the replacement and the second replacement. Netgear finally tried to tell me that there was a firmware issue and I should try the beta firmware upgrade. Installed that and it was even worse. In short, the throughput, even on a wired LAN port, is about 60% of what is coming out of my modem. Wireless on 2.4G is even lower - less than half. And with the firmware "upgrade" the thing crashes constantly. This is headed to the recycle heap.

    Tech support seriously inadaquate

Why would a company have a 160 page user manual only available for download and a installation cd for download when THOSE are the main components NECESSARY to install the router thus making it necessary to call foreign "tech support" which English is their second language and will hang up on you when you become frustrated having to phonically sound out your info over and over.

My old router crapped out so I bought this one. Set up was a pita! I do not like going to the web to set up local hardware. Would not keep settings and kept dropping dns server. Took it back for another brand and that one is working flawlessly so far.
