Bought the net gear 1600 was difficult to set up. Would not accept my home domain.called net gear costumer support and got a agent with a very heavy accent and could hardy understand him. I am not a tech guru and he had no patience. Think they should have English speaking agents. He spoke so fast and had to work on two computer to try to resolve the problem which took over a hour and a half. Then had to call back for the second computer and was regretting the call as again had had to a heavy accent. Finally play with the computer and resolved the problem my self.DON't call there support if you want to avoid a headache. The product itself works fine after a total of almost three hours of agony. There customer is terrible and unfriendly and they keep asking if your done yet while your trying to find what they are telling you to find and you can hear it in their voice.

I bought this after trying, unsuccessfully, to set up a Linksys router on my network. Plugged this in and was up and running in 5 minutes. It couldn't have been easier. I have 3 laptops, 2 cells, 1 printer and Roku on the network and it's working great.

Great product and meets our needs.

Best buy salesperson was able to point me to the right product for the problem we were having getting knocked off our home wifi. My husband and I both work from home and as soon as the kids would get home with all their devices (phones and ipads/computers), we would get knocked off. This resolved our issue and now we can have up to 8-10 devices on at once. We live in 2 story 3200 sf home and did not have to buy a 2nd device for it to reach all our computers upstairs - it is downstairs in office. Worth all the money we spent on it. Great product and no problems at all.

Good Router but Parental Controls Worthless
Posted .

This is a very good router but if you are looking for robust parental controls do not buy a Netgear. Netgear products do not have the ability to restrict internet access by device. I found this out the hard way and had to return it. Exchanged it for a comparable Linksys (EA6400) which was a breeze to set up and works flawlessly. Bottom line, if you're looking for a good value in router performance, with good speed and range, this will work fine. If you need parental controls, especially ability to restrict access by device, look elsewhere.

I bought this router when my other one was not giving me the range I needed. Very happy with its performance. I also like that I can program it to prevent my kids from getting online at certain hours of the day

Finally a company has made a router that is easy to setup and use. I especially like the app feature, to be able to reset the router from your chair. Instead of having to go unplug it. Nice job.

Great performance for a small package. Certainly keeps up with the Big Boys and then some. Super value and am real happy with it...I'm a NetGear fan anyway.

My Belkin N600 died on me so I wanted to get something that was future proof without breaking the bank like the Apple Airport Express. The features are great but was still outside my budget. I have streamed on 5 GHz and it's very fast on my 30 Mbps connection. The 3.0 USB works great as well. It's very easy to set up but wish you could change the login name (can change the password).

Best router for your money, hands down. Super fast, easy to set up, and your connection becomes smoother than you could have imagined. Definitely worth the money, unlike so many other routers.

I had this router for a few months and ended up returning it to the store. It works, don't get me wrong. I was looking at the range capabilities and signal strength. This router performs, but no different than similar, less expensive routers.

I have a desktop computer downstairs, and that's where my modem and router are located. I've had a laptop that hasn't had issues with connecting anywhere in the house. I bought a new desktop a while back that is stationed upstairs, on the other end of the house. It apparently doesn't have the best wireless card in the world. With my previous router, if I was lucky enough to get a connection at all, it was a bad one, and cut out constantly. I bought this Netgear router, and my connection problem is no more. I'm writing this review from the upstairs desktop, and it's running like a champ. The range and power of this router are far superior to any router I've ever owned. And to top it off, this thing looks amazing. It has an almost futuristic look to it. A+

I have had positive experiences with Netgear routers, and also for this one. I bought it for my son, who has used it for two months without problems. Good speed, easy setup.

Did not boost signal as well as I thought it would. I live in two story home and the wifi signal is stronger a lot closer to the NETGEAR - AC1600 Dual-Band Gigabit Router. I had to buy a booster to get a stronger signal down stairs away from the NETGEAR - AC1600 Dual-Band Gigabit Router.

Easy setup. Good speed. Limited range. My previous Asus wi-fi router covered my whole house, including basement, plus much of my yard. This router only does the above ground floors and nothing outside of the house

When I upgraded my internet service to EPB 1 Gigabit fiber optics service I needed a compatible router. The Netgear R6250 AC 1600 Dual Band Gigabit router was recommended by the Best Buy salesperson. It was easy to install and I was immediately on the internet. Of the four computers in my house only one could work with the 5GHz band. My iPhone and our three iPads also recognized the 5Ghz and worked well. I was very disappointed with the poor speed of the 2.4 GHz band, so much so that I thought the newly installed fiber optics service could have been the cause. The EPB tech who came to check the lines verified that my house was getting the full benefit of the fiber optic service. He agreed with me that the 2.4GHz band on the router was VERY slow and suggested that it may be defective. I exchanged it for another R6250 with the same results. The Netgear 2.4GHz band is much slower than my old Linksys 2.4 GHz router. I will say that the 5GHz works extremely fast. In fact the EPB tech said the speed he recorded at my house through the 5GHz band was the fastest he had seen. Sadly, three of my computers can only connect with the 2.4 GHz band. Solution? I bought a 5e Ethernet cable to use when faster data transfer speeds are needed in those three computers. By the way, I had a password problem (of my own doing!) and the phone tech support was fast and knowledgeable.

Easy to install, the Genie app is a little confusing, I recommend downloading the free Netgear Genie app on your phone if you don't have a connected computer. Once it was hooked up I was streaming multiple movies and playing games at the same time on many different wireless internet connected devices. Also, with my previous router my baby monitor was interfering with the wifi connection, but this one has no problems whatsoever. All in all GREAT!!
