Works well just for surfing the web. I have it set up in the lower part of my home, & the signal works well, unless I'm upstairs in the further part of my home.

Mine has over a year "working" 24/7 and not and simple failure. it gets warm....never hot up to the point to worry. just be constantly verifying the upgrades and you will take advantage of this outstanding router. P.S. I live in a concrete builded house, and signal reaches all home areas.

    Pretty Good Router

I bought this router to replace my old Linksys WRT54 G router. It was starting to go. I wanted a dual band ac router and chose this one for the price. Would have liked the netgear Nighthawk, but couldn't afford it. Installation was pretty easy using the wizard and then going in to modify the wireless settings, etc. On my old Linksys, I was getting 28 down and 5 up with a wired computer and 18 down and 5 up on the wireless devices. My ISP is comcast (performance level - 25 Mbps). With this router the wired speeds are the same. The devices, a win 7 laptop, a couple of ipads, a Galaxy S3, and a couple of iphone 5Cs. that connect to the 5GHz band now have the same speed as the wired machine - neat. I have an older win 7 laptop that has to use the 2.4 GHz band and the speed is the same as the old Linksys router. The only problem was connecting the iphones, they did not want to connect to either band. I played with them, eg. setting a static IP and then going back to dynamic and then they connected to the 5GHz band just fine. The range of the 2.5 GHz band is the same as the old Linksys, but the 5GHz band is much stronger and goes further. Overall, I am very happy with this router. Of course, I just installed it - hope that it continues to perform well.

Owned this router for 15 months. Had constant connectivity issues with internet. Frequently disconnected from my HP wireless printer. The 5GH bands never worked. Current speed test shows that my wi-fi download speed is at 3.4 MBS and we have a 15 MBS connection. Wired connection showed 15MBS in speed test. Will replace with a different router.

The NETGEAR - AC1600 Dual-Band Gigabit Router with 4-Port Ethernet Switch - Black works great. We like the Netgear products. This is another one we bought for mom. This makes the 4th one we have purchased over the many years. Easy set-up as well.

Easy set up with enough advanced options to fit my needs. Wireless signal is great. Router is set up in my office on the main floor and I can easily and consistently get 2.4 and 5 GHz signal in our basement.

This router has made a great difference in our ability to access the Internet throughout our house. Our prior router left many dead spots whereas with this one there are none either in the house or in our yard.

We did end up taking the router back. However, it wasn't an issue with the router. The issue was with the placement in the house and other factors. It was great router. Very easy to setup too.

Broke after 6 months, must pay for tech support

Router worked fine for 6 months, now the WiFi portion does not work. Router is within 1 year hardware warranty but out of the free 90-day phone support. They will not issue an RMA unless I pay $69 for phone support and they can walk me through their script. If I convince them, they would refund my money. I understand it is possible to misconfigure a router, but post a checklist for more advanced users. Since there are Apple stores in town, I am putting the $69 toward an Apple router.

couldn't figure out why it blocks some sites

    Posted .

For some reason i couldnt open certain websites so I set up the guest network and they worked on that for about a week now they do not work on that either. My sony bluray wont connect to it either and its only 2 months old. i asked geeks they said go to netgear so i tried netgear customer service but they say the router wont block pages and they had no ideas and hung up on me. BTW i will never buy another netgear product because of that. I know it just has to be some wireless setting because wired works and if i turn wifi off my phone the pages will load. i explained this to the rep. I've tried googling it and changing a couple boxes but nothing works. Just wondering if anyone has ideas before i take it back and if anyone has a recommendation of a good router. also the range is not as good as the box says. The customer service rep was Farly Expert ID 46452. I would think if they didn't know how to help they would at least try and find someone who could help instead of just ending the conversation.

    Love my new WiFi Router

Waited a long time to upgrade my router and now I wish I hadn't. Very convenient to have two separate signals so that I can stream with the 5G and use my computer and phone on the regular setting without them interfering with each other. The online control page is easy to use, if anything a bit to simplistic but No complaints.
