While the new router resolved some of the problems, the difficulty lay (as I first believed) in the modem that had been supplied by Windstream a number of years ago. I now have a newer modem (again, supplied by Windstream) and while the wifi signal still periodically cuts out, the router is working like a charm.

Great router for multiple user connections

We have a number of computers, phones and tablets in our house and the new router has not reset once. NetGear has some optional software to further configure the router. I have had some issues, though, with that software crashing on my Macbook Pro. Overall this seems to be a great router. (Don't forget the username and password are on the back of the router for your initial setup.)
