This is NOT a "plug and play" device. The app that I down loaded was inadequate to install the router. I had to consult an IT professional to install it properly.

Had hoped that this router would improve our laptop speed - the salesman suggested a dual band, because he said it would. However, after talking to a computer repair expert, I was told that it would not.

Firmware updates cripple performance

BUYER BEWARE: When I first bought this unit I had great performance. Then over time I realized I was losing speeds. After some searching on the internet I saw that this unit has been receiving firmware updates that restrict the performance. I'm paying for 1200 Mbps down and it was capping it to 200Mbps. I had to rollback the firmware and open myself up to security vulnerabilities because of the lack of support.

Also had problems with this router as well. What finally topped me off was the lack of support from Netgear. Went to Linksys & so very glad I did.

It was more expensive than what I planned to get, on based on employee recommendation I got it. After a few weeks, doesn't seem any different than my old, cheaper modem -- although the mobile app seems cool.

This wasn’t I expected. I occasionally lose internet reception. The phone monitor gives you a false since of security thinking you have optimal performance.

Boo to Best Buy, change exchange policy

this worked correctly for one day before the first glitch. They were pretty sporadic at first then then up to three times a day the last three days. The router would go to standby on its own and only come back after turning it off and on again. Called Netgear and did the whole factory re boot and all with no improvement. Tried to return/exchange with Best Buy. Friendly enough but only 15 day policy? I know I should have noticed before but for real. I was day 18.

Purchased this to upgrade from my fourth generation AirPort Extreme. Hooked it up, went through the Netgear Genie and had a blazing fast wired connection and flaky wireless. My devices finally connected but I found out the next morning everyone in the household kept getting "Invalid Password". Figuring the problem might be the router's location in a relatively small enclosed space, tried a factory reset and attempted to set it up in our far more open living room. Unfortunately the password problems persisted and I returned the router for a refund. After a few more misses with a D-Link, I have settled on a Linksys 3200AC, which configured properly the first time and seems to be chugging along.
Other than the room the router sat in, I tried the reset and config to also eliminate any errors I may have made in configuring the device. I'd like to assume that I might have received a faulty unit, but I didn't have time to go through the same procedures with another copy of the same unit. I will test out Netgear switches and routers when the need arises but am disappointed in this one.

I live in a home that is only 1400 square feet. Even so my wifi signal often lags with this router. I don't have the money to replace it at this time so for now I will tolerate it. In addition to this it was not at all easy to set up. I was not able to get it working by myself. I thought it was just my inadequate knowledge that was the problem but my son who has a lot of experience with routers also had trouble getting it to work. I will buy a different brand next time.

Connectivity issues

Had issues with connectivity with devices just about every day for a month requiring to me to reset modem daily. Three calls to tech support later (difficult to understand most of them as they out of the country), they tell me it is a faulty unit and to return and purchase same model. I have had the new unit for two days and it has not recognized my lap top on either of those days, requiring me to reconnect. Will have to call tech support again:/

IF you think you can make this router work yourself, you are totally wrong. It also drops the connection frequently. The support is ok but its more of a sales pitch than help. Get something else.

It started off as working, but when I tried to install custom firmware onto it, it bricked. I would just use the base product.

Bought new from Best Buy. Stopped working 4 months later. Contacted Netgear. Long hold times to get to representative. Then rep. placing on hold numerous times during call. After testing with rep, router determined to be bad. Provided proof of purchase. After more calls to Netgear asking for replacement status, was informed the replacement order was not in system and they would call me back within 1 hour. 26 hours later with no return call, I called and was again informed replacement order was not in system. I asked for supervisor and was then informed router was out of warranty because it was a refurbished unit. In the first call I made to Netgear, I provided the serial number of router. If they would have told me the router was refurbished from the start, I could have saved a lot of time and frustration calling Netgear. Returned the router to Best Buy and explained the situation. Cudos to Best Buy for allowing me to return the unit without a hassle. Best Buy could not explain why a refurbished router ended up being sold as new. Needless to say, I did not replace with another Netgear router.
