I installed this for a client with older electrical wires, and the signal was very very weak and slow (only 1-5m only 70 feet away from a 60m output at the Netgear Router origination).

i have a N150 router and i think this powerline 500 AP is a very good choice for me because i live in a 900 sq f condo with concrete wall blocking one room and partially blocking the lanai... after strategic positioning of access point unit i get a strong reliable wifi signal in both bedrooms and living room and a good usable signal throughout the rest of the condo.. in my situation, i don't think the best extender/repeater or a router upgrade would give me better results with coverage because of the thick concrete... in the bedrooms and living room i get about 30-45 Mbps wifi and the lan port about 55 Mbps max ... a few of my outlets didn't work but most did even with a power strip... setup interface was not easy for me to navigate... the only thing that bothered me really is that the AP unit gets very warm...

I had high hopes for this device. It was replacing an older Rocket Fish unit I had. Unfortunately I could not get it to work at all. Going through the setup, I could not get it to connect at all, the indicators had it showing a strong connection, but no data would transmit. I moved had both units in the same circuit and even tried on top/bottom of same plug, just wouldn't work. I'm assuming it was DOA, so I returned it

I've read all the articles, I've heard that range extenders are a last option only, that they don't work well from the get go, & many other solutions provide better results. HOWEVER, as an electronics enthusiast; we literally have 20+ items connected to our U-Verse home network, who can't string a new Ethernet line, I can honestly state that this product performs flawlessly. I did NOT expect it to do so. Not at all. I even made sure to ask 3 times how long I had to bring it back. The range extension is more than adequate, the speed; both Ethernet & wireless, are excellent, & setup is a breeze. I wouldn't call our house small, but it's not huge either; however, our living room & kitchen were absolute dead-zones, & forget about being outdoors altogether. Our living room TiVo couldn't run Netflix/Hulu well, transfer shows, etc., nor could our Roku, & our 5 iOS devices were virtually useless in the aforementioned rooms. Once I installed the Powerline 500, ALL of those problems were resolved. And, not just by a bit, but by a very wide margin. I would recommend this wired/wireless product over the wireless only option wholeheartedly. The Ethernet is connected directly to one of our five Tivo's, & all the remaining devices at the front of the house use the wireless option. Please give this item a shot. I don't want to sound arrogant, but it know my way around home electronics, & I promise you this solution to our dead zones was the perfect way to go. I wish the Netgear Genie worked for extenders on our iOS devices; however, you can adjust your setting through any browser quite easily, so that's a small caveat. This product is a winner. At least for us.

purchased to extend the wifi signal. worked on setting it up for half a day it would not connect like it should. I got tired of trying to get it to connect . If it was this hard to connect if I had trouble with it would be hard to work with, I returned it.

I had no signal in the room after installing this I have full signal now, just have to setup a password if you want otherwise have netgear_xxx name for ssid, it's really easy to setup and painless, works with apple AirPort Extreme. It says I'm instruction you have to plug in directly to the wall I couldn't so that, plugged it to surge protector and it's still working getting 13Mbs connection.

Installation was a breeze. Took 15 minutes to setup, configure and activate security. My primary router is located in my home office in one corner of the house but with demand for additional WiFi connectivity increasing at he opposite corner of the house to support smartphones and tablets I began dropping signal strength to unacceptable levels. Definitely extends range with minimal if any degradation in speed or performance. Works like a champ and so far I have had now problems or conflicts to date. Considering the time and cost of running extra coax cable thru walls and attic along with faceplates, this is less expensive alternative. It truly works well and a I see no drawbacks.

    Difficult install

The instructions are way too difficult. Like they were written by someone who never installed one of these devices. Not in logical order, illustrations don't match the dialog. Then, you have to go to their website to download a program to set up the wireless. Then it says that the software you just downloaded is out of date. Now you have to download and install again. If you buy this set, then you need to remember that the smaller device is the main device. The larger on is the remote unit that has the wifi.

I didn't have any Wi-Fi reception out in my dethatched garage. Works great and provides a super strong signal. Very easy to setup, basically just plug it in.
