This is the second one of this brand I bought the first didn't have wireless and after a few years it quit but it was on 24-7 for almost four tears. I got 100MBPS with it and it plugs in the wall by the cable modem and it goes thru the wires in the house and you plug the other end in by your pc and Ethernet cable or wireless to your pc. It says it does more through the wireless but I seem to have better luck with the Ethernet cable. My house wiring is 30 years old so I wonder how much better it would b with a newer house and this one you can shut off with a switch on top so it should last even longer.. Cant get any faster than if you were plugged straight into the cable modem. A-! + Unit

This is a really great product. It adds a wired port and wireless access via power line. If you need wireless access in a remote area of your house this might be a solution. Power line does not work in every place but if you have a reasonably new house it has a high probability of working. I had an office in my house that was far from my router. A wireless access point did not work very well. With this product I was able to hook up a computer with an Ethernet cable AND was able to add wireless in that part of my home too! It streams video with ease. The only downside is to check compatibility. I thought all power line products would work together and that is not quite right. This product would not work with my power line nano. I needed another pair of nano devices where I thought I could get two new ports instead of one new port. (Note, my pair of nano devices worked in the same house but it required a pair of nano devices.)

I bought the Powerline 500 to extend wifi from a Netgear router to a separate, detached bunkhouse. While the setup was a bit cumbersome, I finally got them working and they appear to provide a reliable signal that is strong enough for Netflix and Amazon streaming via a Roku stick in the bunkhouse that is 200 feet away from the main house. I had to try several different outlets for the wifi broadcasting unit but finally found one that provides a good transfer rate. The light is amber and I could not find an outlet to give me a green light. Amber appears to be strong enough for streaming and web surfing. While it's only been in use a couple of days, we watched a HD movie via Nerflix tonight without any signal drop or disruption to the movie.

I bought this to get my wireless internet to the upstairs rooms of our house as I was only getting one bar in areas. The installation manual was OK, nothing great, but should be able to follow. It wasn't working at all though. I used the chat for support and was told that both had to be in outlets on the same circuit breaker. That didn't make any sense as that would be in the same room of the house. I then tried again on my own and called support. I got an opposite answer and was told that neither had to be "hard wired" to my router. That didn't work either. Finally on a 3rd attempt at support I got someone who had a clue what I was trying to setup and worked with me for about an hour. We ended up having to reverse the two boxes from what the directions say and now it works great. I get full signal upstairs and even outside on the deck.

I'm not sure if this is an issue with the device or my cruddy Comcast connection. Most of the time it works fine, but occasionally it just freezes up. It looks like its still broadcasting and has a strong signal but there is no internet connection. Even all the lights look like its working fine. The fix is pretty easy, just unplug it from the wall and replug it in. It doesn't happen a lot, but when it does, the big issue is that our phones start burning more data without our knowing it. If we don't notice it soon enough, suddenly we're getting warnings from our carrier. Call their help desk which was hit or miss. One guy clearly had never helped with this product. I felt I was teaching him how to fix it. Next guy VERY knowledgeable. Also, the installation instructions don't match what you see when you're using their connection software. Had to figure it out myself.

We had a weak signal in our bedroom and needed a solution. We spoke with a young man at the South Park store (Austin) who recommended this product. It works like a charm! Great signal strength and speed.
Kudos!

This product works surprisingly well. My router is in my basement office and I added this product to my bedroom which is on the next level and opposite end of the house. Before using this I was receiving 2 bars are on my phones WiFi. With this product I consistently get full bars. I would give this 5 stars however it takes a little time to get it set up properly with security.
A:AnswerMight work. I tried a similar application and but was not able to connect at a decent speed due to way wiring went through main panel. You can always try and return to store w/in 14 days if does not work the way you want it to.
A:AnswerYes, this device comes with two pieces: (i) One that goes into an electric outlet near your wireless router. You connect it to the wireless router via an Ethernet cable. (ii) The second piece goes into an outlet near your security system. It communicates with the first piece through the electric wiring in your home. This second piece has an Ethernet jack that you can connect to the security system and it is also a wireless router itself.
