Customers are saying

Customers are satisfied with Nier: Automata's excellent gameplay, compelling story, and memorable music. Many also praised the game's action sequences and high replay value, though some found the difficulty and map design challenging. A few players noted issues with the camera and lack of an auto-save feature. Overall, the positive feedback on core gameplay elements outweighs the concerns regarding specific aspects of the game's design.

I was already a fan of the first Nier, but with the help of Platinum Games, Yoko Taro has really created a masterpiece with the sequel. Great story, now with great gameplay too, and one of the best endings in a videogame. One minor flaw in the game is Playthrough B is too Similar to A, and the game is back-loaded such that while Playthrough A is good, Playthrough C is incredible, especially with Ending E. These games probably would review a lot better if the endings didn't work like this. Regardless, this is a defining game of Gen 8 and everyone that likes character action games or story based games should play it.

The game has excellent narrative and characterization with a gorgeous soundtrack that plays beautifully with the broken dystopian world you are faced with. The characters are compelling, making you want to learn more about their personality and background. The soundtrack is almost like a character of the game itself. It adds so much more atmosphere and charm to the game that almost sucks you in. The game has multiple paths and endings. Each time you replay the game, you're witnessing the story from a different perspective. I highly recommend you experience these paths to get the best experience and money's worth of the game.

This is a game I almost passed up, but after reading and listening to game reviewers gush about it, I decided to give it a try. I am pleased to say that this game is an absolute treat. Fun combat, an interesting story and an astonishing soundtrack all combine for a highly enjoyable game. It's also worth noting the high amount of replay value given the way the game changes on subsequent playthroughs.

    Fantastic action RPG

If you're into action RPGs, I can't recommend this game enough(especially if you enjoyed the Drakengard and Nier series). Despite being a sequel to Nier, you don't need much prior knowledge to enjoy this game's story. An interesting story that cannot be fully appreciated unless you finish the game three times (each playthrough provides a different perspective). Previous games have lackluster combat, but this game's fluid combat is satisfying and has depth thanks to Platinum Games (Bayonetta, Vanquish, Metal Gear Revengance, The Wonderful 101, Transformers Devastations). Granted the game doesn't have the difficulty and depth of other Platinum Games like MGR and Bayonetta, but it will suffice for an action RPG. After all, Nier Automata is still a RPG foremost as evident by the leveling, side quests, stat manipulation through Chips, equipment, and item usage. I should mention that the music for the game is superb and evokes a mood that's fitting to the situation at hand. Game is a smooth 60 fps at 1080p overall on the PS4 Pro through there can be slight dips toward the end of the game sometimes when more enemies appear. Depending on how many of the side quests you do and if you intend to complete the game for all the endings, it can take you around 30-40 hours.

From the game play to the story to the characters this game is pretty much perfect. It also has the best soundtrack from any game ever.

I picked this game up mostly due to the Square Enix badge on the case and the graphics looked great. The story plays out well and isn't overly complicated, gameplay is easy enough to enjoy but not so much you could fall asleep during it. There are plenty of side missions to busy yourself with that actually add little details to the story. If you played Final Fantasy XV and thought the gameplay was easy enough for a toddler and got tired of monster hunting from the local greasy spoon, this is right up your alley.

    One of 2017s Highlights

Had this been any other year, Nier: Automata may have been 2017s best game outright. As is, I put it behind Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5, and Wolfenstein 2, but only just by hundredths of percentage points. While HZD is still my top pick, amongst the list of best games, no one could be blamed or considered crazy for picking Nier. While it's certainly in the RPG catrgory, it interweaves almost every other genre into the mix at various points: text-based adventure, top down shooter, platformer, and more during dedicated bite-size segments just to that genre. And while that presents ample opportunity to fail when stepping outside it's main genre; or, at best expectations, to become a confused mish-mash, it handles all it throws into the mix not just well, but as a shining, benchmark example that a great story can pull this off amazingly. Beyond the great gameplay, Nier features both an engaging story and incredible soundtrack. Don't make the mistake that because it's a sequel to a largely average game that Automata is more of the same. This isn't a pleasant surprise, it's leaps and bounds above its predecessor, and in the mix as one of 2017s absolute bests.

The soundtrack in this game is beautiful and fits with the deep philosophical story elements in the game. The idea of machines being able to process feelings is truly thought provoking. Gameplay is also very fluid and fun. Runs at 60 fps most of the time on the PS4 Pro. A must-play.

It’s one of the most unique game I’ve played in a while. It blurs the line between gameplay and storytelling and is worth it for the experience alone. The difficulty is a bit too easy on “normal” and the battle becomes repetitive, but it’s never clunky. The soundtrack is spectacular and quickly gets stuck in your head. My biggest complaint though is that while the art style is unique, it gets repetitive real fast and you find yourself getting lost in the open world often just because everything looks the same.

This a game that defines third person top down hack and slashes. The action is fast and fluid and the visuals are superb, the story is engaging and is hard to put down. The character is lovable (and beautiful) and I hope to see another game soon! Beware though this game will kick your butt!

NieR Automata is a great game with crisp graphic, sharp controls, and a great story. It has multiple story paths and quests, which gives the game plenty of replay value. It's also a complete game; therefore, no season pass to purchase in order to get the entire experience. It's all on one disc. Highly recommended.

Nier: Automata was easily one of the best action games of 2017, and I'd take it a step farther and say it was simply one of the best overall games of the year. This game excels in every category including gameplay, story, and audio. You'll be in for a decently long ride with this game, as just the main story clocks in at nearly 20 hours, and if you're doing a lot of side content, you can easily wind up with a playthrough that lasts around twice that long.

It may be my love of machines, robots, or what have you. But this game is nothing short of breathtaking. I find myself stopping often to admire the beauty displayed in front of me. This game looks and sounds great, has excellent controls, and good variety of game play as well. I enjoyed every minute and will be going through a second play through. If you haven't experienced this game, I strongly suggest you get this and try it.

Nier Automata represents the pinnacle of the Japanese RPG genre, with a fantastic story that takes place in a desolate, post apocalyptic world. This game just oozes style, with a combat system that is frentic and poetic at the same time. The soundtrack is one of the best in 2017 and the melodies will continue to resonate in your mind long after the game is over. I highly recommend this masterpiece!

Platinum games really got it right! This game is like nothing else, incredible fresh combat actions, great visuals, beautiful worlds, amazing story! The developers are very creative and made a master piece. Other game developers can learn a lot from this. This is easily the best game yet so far for the PS4, oh please get the PS4 pro for this!! You won't regret the visuals!

It's hard to say what's good about this game. It's a unique gameplay experience that you don't normally come across it's a reactive action game with the systems of an RPG. The story is also unique so unique in fact that even when you beat the game play it again is actually different and in fact you must do this several times in order to see a whole story unfold.

Nier Automata is simply one of the best games I have had the pleasure of playing in years. It features a desolate but beautiful post apocalyptic world that focuses in in depth and atmosphere rather than just size, like many other RPGs these days. Every side quest helps build the world. The combat is fast, fluid, and satisfying. The soundtrack is phenomenal, and complements the story, which is one of the most creative and best I have seen in years. If you are a fan of RPGs at all, or even just good stories, do yourself a favor and buy this game. And if you are new to Drakengard or the Nier series like I was, don't worry, no prior knowledge is really required to enjoy this title fully!
