Worthy remake, expanded somewhat from the original, noir-style thriller, excellent cast, amazing twists at the end

A remake as good as the original. Guillermo makes a classic film but keeps it closer to the book. The ending is a killer one.

Nightmare Alley is a good movie. It is a dark movie with a great cast.

Brilliant movie directed by Guillermo Del Toro! Has Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, William Defoe and Toni Collette! Great movie!!

I'm a big fan of Guillermo del Toro's visually stunning films. As avid noir enthusiast, a fan of the "Nightmare Alley" novel & of the original film, I was leery as to how del Toro's penchant for gothic romance & horror would translate, as he explored a genre he has not delved into before. This movie did not disappoint. As always, it was beautifully filmed, with great attention to the color palettes. It was a joy to watch in color, but the acting was so good, so classic noir, that I watched it the second time with the color turned off to only black & white, to see if it could stand up to the true noir test. It did. Every actor this film was superb, but the real standout was Cate Blanchett, who absolutely nailed the fire & ice of femme fatale "Lilith Ritter". The chemistry between her "Lilith" & Cooper's "Stanton" was absolutely electrifying. Whether you are a noir fan, or a del Toro fan, this film is a must for your collection.

Good movie little hard to follow but it worked out all right

Guillermo Del Toro has made another hit that I really liked! Visually the cinematography is breathing but it's the performances by the star-studded cast that will leave your head spinning for days! I have never seen the original 1947 version, but somehow I think this film has captured the film noir of the original except in muted colors (like most of GDT's films). Only downside it the special features on the blu-ray contain only 3 short BTS clips.

Movie starts with a man who has nothing. Works his way up the ladder to be a con man in a Carnaval. There is excitement, love and tragedy along the way.

This was a great mystery classic film noir! Bradley Copper is great one of his best performances! Cate Blanchet is brilliant really good movie!

Not the greatest Del Toro film, and the 1947 Nightmare Alley was better but it was still a very good film.

Yes, too bad Del Toro decided to do a remake of a 1947 movie of the same name and in some ways better than his remake. This movie bombed at the box office. It goes to show that no matter who directs, who stars (great cast) & how many millions it cost to make, there is no guarantee that any movie will be a hit. The 3 stars are for the cast. The director should go back to making movies like The Shape of Water & Pan's Labyrinth.

Great remake, but the problem with remaking a story with a “twist” ending is that the viewer is aware.

Incredible cast with awesome direction. The ladies are off the charts great in this period piece. Cooper is terrific! Must see FUN!
