It's my 3rd one, but not because they break easily. It's just the lens I keep on all the backup cameras. It's light, sturdy, reliable and fits in a coat pocket which yes, is a terrible way to carry a lens but if you shoot in wintertime, it's nice to know it 's sturdy enough to handle a little abuse.. In my opinion, they are a touch nicer than the F/1.8 50mm Nikon lenses and probably "worth" the added cost.

I purchased this lens to go with a new Nikon D7100. It is an amazing lens. I shoot pictures of the family and we're just getting amazing shots of our young children who NEVER stand still for the shot.

I’m a portrait and product photographer and I absolutely LOVE this lens. I’d previously been shooting with a nice zoom lens, but this one is so much nicer. I shot in low light the other day for an infant photography session at home and the photos turned out spectacular. It really is worth the extra money to get the f/1.4 over the f/1.8!

I can't say enough about how well this 50mm performs. My pics are amazingly sharp & sometimes even have a slightly cinematic feel. Each picture I've taken & posted on my fb page have received tons of compliments & good feedback. As I'm just beginning my photography journey to becoming a full fledged professional this is turning out to be a fantastic lens to help me reach that goal.

For the price this is a great lens and I'd strongly recommend it over the f/1.8 version for both sharpness and distortion reasons.
The distortion with the lens is easily corrected in Photoshop or Lightroom.

I absolutely love this lense. I went in thinking I knew which one I wanted from my intermediate knowledge... After telling the associate what I was trying to do with my camera this is the product he suggested for me. We tried 3 lenses and I was happy with what I could see from this one. I went to the Best Buy near the Columbiana Mall in South Carolina.
