I really like the camera. It works very well to be refurbished. But they didn't have it ready when I got to the Maplewood and they couldn't find it so they emailed saying it was ready but got to the store and it wasn't ready waiting for half and hour for them to bring it to the front.

The camera came in a Nikon refurb-marked box, like new with batteries, neck strap, lens cover, product warranty card and camera. The "quick start" manual has to be downloaded as does the 170 page user manual. The WiFi is for camera to smart device. A quick call to Nikon customer service confirmed that the days of WiFi from the camera to my WiFi router directly are over! The pictures are EXCELLENT! The camera is like new, except $200 less expensive. (got it on sale for $100) The Optical zoom is great, digital zoom excellent, the panorama effect is great, the movies it can take are excellent, all in all, the whole thing is easy to use and right away we noticed a drastic improvement over our pocket sized $150 point-and-shoot digital camera!
I would definitely recommend this item, and the 16 gig card I bought with it for $6 will hold 1800 pics at the highest resolution setting.
I zoomed in on a water tower as an example to test the digital zoom about a half a mile away and was able to zoom in on the light on the top of it, which you couldn't even see with the naked eye from here!
EXCELLENT!
Worth every penny!

Focus is fine

I did a lot of research on long-zoom (low cost bridge cameras).
This one offered the most value of features compared to cost.
My only hesitation was some of the reviews about the auto focus. Multiple reviews cited an issue where the camera would focus, and the picture looked fine - until actually snapping the picture, and then things would be fuzzy. There was even one showing examples of fuzzy pictures taken by this camera.
When I got the camera, I took a few sample pictures, and had the same frustrating experience. Then ... I read the user manual, and learned that when in auto mode - in low light conditions - if not using the flash, a tripod was recommended. I popped up the flash, and the focus problem went away! I closed the flash, and stabilized the camera, and the problem again disappeared. So the issue was that the camera had recognized that the scene was a low-light condition, and was leaving the shutter open longer to allow more light in - since a person can't hold the camera totally still, the camera moves while the shutter is open, and the picture turns out blurry.
Bottom line - great camera! Just take a little time to read the manual, and you will be fine!

Do not buy

After a few weeks of use (difficult to use, has trouble focusing at telephoto ranges) the on-off button no longer works so repeated pressing has no effect. I cannot take pictures any more. I wish I had never bought it.

This was my first camera it was ok… the focus is fine... I loved that it was a DSLR but I don't like that you have to look on the camera screen to take the picture has amazing zoom tho
