The Woodfire grill is an amazing electric alternative to gas or charcoal grills that usually take up more space on the deck or patio. I waited too long to get my Woodfire grill. It is far more approachable to my wife over the larger gas grill I typically cook and smoke with. And now that we are empty nesters. This might be the last season I rebuild my gas grill and go electric with the Ninja Woodfire. Decent smoke flavor for meals that cook in one hour or less is easy. Longer smoke sessions are possible but read on for a more in depth user experience I had over several days making a pork shoulder (butt roast), thick bone in ribeye steak with shrimp, and a whole spatchcocked chicken. Spoiler, I like this grill and the food made on it tastes great. Setup/safety*: Out of the box it is a minimul straightforward set up. Once the carboard and plastic is off. Place Woodfire on a sturdy outside surface or table, I used a portable workbench as the grill has very little heat under the unit. Next you put the grill plate in, add a scoop of smoke pellets if smoking (you can use any brand/flavor you want, or buy from Ninja. 5 scoops worth of pellets are included). Now, power it on and select the mode and possibly temp/time for the food you are preparing. *Be safe. Powering the grill with a higher gauge cord than most have is crucial and a must for safe use on longer sessions. Use only a 12 gauge rated extension cord, or better, if the grounded power outlet is more than 20ft away (most pencil thick orange extension cords are 16 gauge. Lower gauge number is better). The grill cord is very short (3 1/2ft) and the thin one you might already have likely is not sufficient. Meals made so far, pics included: First I made a pork roast and as it was my first use, I went with the included cookbook guidelines from a recipe Ninja has. Mode 2 "Smoker" 250° for 4 hours was close. My roast was ready 30 min early. It came out really nice, good bark/crust, tender and flavorful. Texture was very soft but not pork pudding like you might want for pulled pork if you used a slow cooker. Sadly, smoke dies out around 35-45 min, but you can add a second scoop and hold the woodfire button for 4 seconds to re-ignite while keeping the cook temps going. Just empty the ashes if smoking more than twice a session. Wish the smoker was a bit longer lasting, its a flavor add not true smoker. The fan seems to increase the smoke burn rate. Shorter smoke is not a deal breaker for me. Second meal, and the one I was most nervous about, thick bone in ribeye steak with a few shrimp. I have this perfected on my gas grill. I was surpised and relieved that the reverse sear method works on Woodfire. You will want to add a temp probe to your cart since the Woodfire does not include one, and is very useful for steaks. I used Mode "Smoker", no smoke, at 250° till the steaks internal temp reached 100°. Removed steak from grill, switched to Mode "Grill" temp high, when temp high is reached. Return steak to grill. Quarter turn at 4-5 min, then flip after another 4-5 min. Repeat quarter turn on this side and it was for me at a near perfect 125° and ready to rest and rise to medium rare. While steak was resting and grill still on high, cooked off a few shrimp, and honestly these turned out far better in 5 minutes than any restaurant ever served me. Overall, the steak was good. Tender, juicy and on par with my gas grill method. I will need more time to get the Woodfire dialed in. The shrimp were outstanding. Last meal was a whole chicken that I spatchcocked (cut through back and stopping before breast, so chicken lays flat. Interior of bird facing grill surface). Again, Mode "Smoker" 250° for 1 1/2 hours and one scoop of smoke pellets. Came out great. Tender and juicy and the skin was fairly crispy. Might add a light oil to skin next use. Cleanup: Gas grill wins here. Not that the Woodfire grill plate is hard to clean, not dishwasher safe it seems. Its just a tad more tedious to get the slick surface clean between the grill lines with a kitchen sponge. Burnt bits hide in the grooves and take a second pass to remove. Gas grill, these bits would "burn off" so to speak. And remember to put a foil liner each time for the drip tray. I dump the ash into the drip tray, then toss when cool and drippings congeal. Overall thoughts: With 4 cook modes and I really only used 2. I hope to try using it as an outdoor airfryer with Ninja's optional basket. And if the griddle plate becomes available. This will be extremely useful tool to keep heat and cooking smells outside. While there is very little to complain about this grill aside from how short the smoke session is. Just wish this model included at least a wired temp probe to monitor food doneness. It is an excellent grill for 4 or fewer person meals. More food is possible, but why crowd the grill plate. I grill all year long hear in Ohio. Yes, snow on the ground, i'll grill! I don't know if I will risk having wet feet with the Woodfire, it looks to have GFCI on the cord for safety. But it might vary well be my go to whenever it is dry enough weather to do so. Woodfire is a winner and worth the money.

I’m a big fan of Ninja’s kitchen products. It seems every one I’ve used has not only worked well but made some part of the food/beverage process a little easier and more convenient. (And typically extremely easy to clean!) This grill/smoker is no exception. For starters, I’m just not the kind of person who is going to buy a separate smoker. There are plenty of great BBQ options where I live so it’s hard to justify. But my gas grill was showing its age and I’ve always found it a bit of a hassle to use, so I quickly became interested in what ninja was doing with this product. The one I have has grilling, smoking, roasting and baking options. But what’s maybe less clear is that you can use the smoke function with any of those other functions. I haven’t cooked anything yet that way, but I intend to and like that it’s there. What I have done is smoke a turkey tenderloin with a dry rub and make smoked chicken wings. Overall, I’m extremely happy with how it cooks things. In both instances, I will say that it has become clear that it’s going to take some using to get the timing and temperatures down pat. The included manual has a handy chart in the back, but it doesn’t cover everything and I think I probably overcooked the turkey a tad and could’ve kept the wings on longer - or at a higher temp - to get them perfect. Obviously, a meat thermometer comes in handy but with the smoker function especially you don’t want to be opening up the hood every five minutes if you can avoid it. So there’s a little learning curve here in that regard. What takes no effort is learning how to use things. It’s as simple as pressing a button. The manual does a good job with instructions and there are videos on Ninja’s website. In my experience, preheating has taken a little less time than advertised and isn’t far removed from what it would take on the gas grill. A little slower probably, but not bad… and I’ll gladly take the trade off of electric compared to having to wonder if I’m going to run out of propane ever again. No more tanks! So nice. One thing about the grill itself: it’s compact but heavy. I think around 30 pounds. Definitely light enough to move with ease, but you don’t want to be moving it a great distance too often. Right now, I don’t have a dedicated table for it and am using it on top of our metal deck furniture. This has been absolutely fine and left no marks or discoloration on the table itself at all. For storage, I’m just keeping it underneath the table and underneath the cover for the table - although the product is described as being weatherproof. Regardless, you’re going to want something to put this on otherwise you’re basically cooking on the ground. It’s not tall at all. The manual claims you can fit 30 some hot dogs on there and I think that’s likely the case - though it would be crowded. I was able to get around 28-30 chicken wings on there but they were packed tight and I would not have been able to do many more. If you’re doing a lot of grilling for large parties this is probably not the size for you. For me though, it was a total waste having a four burner propane grill that takes up four feet of deck space. I’ve never once filled that grill up to capacity even after years and years of use. So the compact size of the Ninja is a bonus as far as I’m concerned. I will likely get a small table that’s taller than my deck furniture and use it solely with the Ninja. They sell one on their website but it’s not a necessity. All in all, I’m most excited about the smoker option. There’s a small bag of pellets that come in the box and so far I’ve been pleased with how they flavor the food. You can get a great deal on very large bags of pellets at any number of stores, so I’ll be trying some other brands in the future as Ninja’s own seemed a little pricey on their website. You just load the pellets in the little box on the side, press a button and you’re good to go. It really puts out some smoke. Ninja also includes a bunch of recipes for meals, rubs, and sauces. I tried their BBQ rub with our turkey tenderloin and found it to be too salty for my tastes. Of course, I can say the same thing about one of the store ones I bought, too. The Ninja recipe is a good place to start though, and in the future I’ll probably use that one and just cut down on the salt. Really excited to try a smoked s’mores bar recipe they had on their site. Smoked desserts! Yes, please. Last thing: unlike other Ninja products I have the grill grate that comes with this is unfortunately not dishwasher safe. That’s a little disappointing, but I can say that cleaning it by hand after those 30 chicken wings was quick and easy. Seems like it has a good non-stick coating of some kind on it which hopefully will last. There’s a grease pan that goes in the back and they recommend putting foil in it. That made dumping the grease super easy. As for the ashes from the wood pellets, you can just take those and dump them in your yard to use as compost! All in all, another cool product that has improved my cooking capabilities without adding more complications or hassle to the equation. Excited to try some more things out on it.

Upfront, this is a 4.5 star review but I’m rounding to 5. Ninja isn’t necessarily known for making high end, top of the line, long last products and while this isn’t pretending to be, I’m hoping it lasts a while without fail because so far I’ve really enjoyed it. Additional context here is that Ninja has a pizza oven/smoker that operates very similar to this and could probably just replace this whole thing since it does similar work but cooks at a higher heat if needed so that may be worth checking out. Out of the box, this is nothing special. Packaging is middle of the road, it contains the unit, grease tray, power cord, grease trap, and cooking top, which is very similar to the George Foreman nonstick removable tops if you’ve ever had a George Foreman grill. This also comes with a package of Ninja smoke pellets and a scoop for said pellets, alongside instructions and a recipe guide. Setup probably takes around 45-60min or so to get everything out of the box, unwrapped, cleaned, and then run this on high for 20min to cook off anything extra lingering around, which is what Ninja recommends to do. This should be used outdoors and while you COULD probably feed 4-ish people with this, you’re hitting closer to 2-3 more commonly. It can hold a surprising amount of food but if you have a standard grill, I can’t imagine you’d replace that with this. Preheat takes a bit and while doing so, if you’d like, you can add the wood pellets to add a smoke flavor to your food. Ninja sells a few different types of wood pellets for different flavor pallets but this just comes with the basic wood pellet that they offer. Each time you’d use them, you’d pour a scoop size into the side of the unit and it’ll ignite the pellets and fully burn through them. The bag probably has 5-10 serving sizes before you’re ordering more, so weigh that out when considering this. If you think you’ll be smoking a lot of food, know you’ll be buying more pellets very soon. I’m working my way through the cookbook that is provided but so far I’ve liked cooking steaks on here without the pellets. They cook well, about 9min total gets a nice medium rare 1lb NY steak and it’s easy to throw in vegetables like asparagus afterwards for 8min which come out great. This is very easy to use Cleaning is a bit of a pain since you’d normally want to wipe down everything between use but the pellet tray is the only thing that’s dishwasher safe so you’re always having to manually clean the unit, grease trap; and grill after every use. All said, this is perfect for smaller families or folks with smaller backyards where a full grill doesn’t make sense. It’s bare bones though so know you’re going to have to get more pellets soon, you’ll need something to put it on, and Ninja claims only their branded pellets will work, and it’s probably not worth it to find out otherwise due to fire safety issues. That said, I’d still recommend this and give it two thumbs up.

Classic Ninja Quality - With a Twist

I'm completely new to the world of outdoor kitchen appliances. It's not something I've worked with or had much experience with. I tend to be a charcoal grill guy moreso than a propane user, but this Ninja has got me thinking - Maybe I'm more of an electric grill guy. This appliance should have anyone who has used a Ninja grill feeling right at home. The settings are simple and easy to flip through. There are 4 settings - Grill, Smoker, Bake, and Roast, with a Mode button to toggle between them. There is a Woodfire Flavor button, a temperature up/down button, and a time up/down button. Simple. The controls are easy to understand and pick up if you're new or already familiar with Ninja's other products. Using the appliance is simple. After you run an extension cable from your garage or home to the grill, everything works. As always, folks, please use the proper AWG extension cable for this appliance - you want a thick extension cord when you're running a lot of wattage. Also, remember to test the appliance's circuit with the integrated "Test" and "Reset" buttons before grilling. Let's talk performance. The grilling is speedy and simple and wonderful. This Ninja, being newer and all, seems to heat up faster than any of my other Ninja appliances. Most Ninja's operate by using hot air to deliver a superior cooking experience, no matter the medium. That seems to be a part of Ninja's play with this outdoor grill and smoker. Expect to have fast pre-heat times and a nice hot grill ready to sear and crust your choice of meats. Now - the Woodfire functionality. Ninja includes a bag of pellets that are 100% wood and give a classic smokey flavor to anything you can think of. This smokey flavor is not overpowering, to be clear. The wood pellets that are bundled in the bag will work for just about any purpose you may have for smoking. There is a "bolder" wood pellet option that Ninja sells, which you may want to check out as well. How did the smoking go? It went wonderfully! I tested by cooking 4 burgers while I had company over, and I warned everyone that this is a bit of an experiment. I wasn't sure if I'd appreciate a grass-fed burger getting all smokey. I stand corrected though - my smoked burgers were actually a real treat, and everyone commented how they loved the smoke flavor. Note that it was a "light" smoke flavor due to the cooking time of the burgers being short. Cleanup is super easy. Take a rag to the inside of the grill to keep everything fresh, and then take the removable grill out, along with the grease tray beneath the unit, get those 2 things washed and dried, and put it all back together again. If you used some Woodfire pellets, you may want to dump them, or you may want to have them ready for next time. That's entirely up to you - just please be mindful, that as with all things involving smoke, things that have previously smoldered and are being lit on fire again - they tend to smell a little bit different. You'll need to test out your personal preferences in this case. Important Note: You will probably want some accessories for this appliance. I recommend looking at Ninja's stand accessory (both rolling and non-rolling), and if you're like me, you'll want this item covered by a Ninja outdoor grill cover when you're not using it. Please remember to take a look at the accessories you would want with this item and consider it a part of your total cost of ownership. This is a great little appliance. Highly recommended for what it does. Ninja continues to impress and their products are heavy hitters. I can see myself using the smoke function quite a bit in the future, it really makes the grilling experience that much more exciting. And having a mini smoker like this, with a bunch of other cooking features at the ready too? It's worth checking out.

Ninja - Woodfire Outdoor Grill & Smoker, 4-in-1

All the Ninja products we’ve received have been very well packaged. Included with the Woodfire Outdoor Grill & Smoker are the Pellet Scoop, a small package of the Ninja Woodfire Pellets, instruction booklet, and quick start guide plus recipe book. Of course, the Grill Grate, Smoke Box and Grease Tray are all part of the whole unit. Grill Grate is easily removed for washing with warm water and dish soap along with the Grease Tray. The Grill Grate is hand wash only and like any non-stick surfaces you need to be careful and not use any abrasive products. Like all Ninja products the 4-in 1 outdoor smoker appears to be well built, heavy, and solid. No set-up necessary, read the short and simple instruction manual and just plug-in and cook! Very simple to operate, instructions are easy to follow for all the cooking functions. The 4 functions of cooking on the Woodfire Outdoor Grill and Smoker are Grill, Smoker, Bake, and Roast. The Woodfire Outdoor Grill & Smoker states, “use Ninja Woodfire Pellets only”. The Ninja Woodfire Pellets are slightly narrower compared to our alleged top brand/quality pellets that we use in our big smoker. The instructions do state to always fill the smoke box to the top for each cook. I did read someone’s comment regarding the quantity of pellets used. They stated that they were having issues with the pellets igniting and staying lit or smoking properly and that they discovered you must use the full level pellet scoop in the smoker box to get the pellets lit and smoking properly. The first cook was 1½ inch thick boneless pork chops. I Breaded the chops and placed them back in the refrigerator, shortly after filling the smoker box with Woodfire Pellets (All-Purpose Blend), turned on the Ninja and set to Grill, pressed the WOOD FLAVOR button, set the temperature to HI and set the time to 20 minutes and selected START/STOP. The unit started firing up the pellets which took approximately 7 minutes, and the unit changed to pre-heat which took approximately 8 minutes. 15 minutes total time to ignite the pellets and pre-heat the grill. Lots of smoke starting out, however it did calm down slightly prior to placing food in but it still produces a lot of smoke. Grilled the chop for 7 minutes on each side and they came off approximately 140 degrees and climbed to 148 degrees while resting. Generally, we cook chops of this sort in the Ninja Oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes and they always come out very juicy and tasty. The chops from the Ninja Grill/Smoker were not quite as moist, but tender and very tasty. Good smoke flavor. To smoke a rack of Baby Back Ribs you’ll have to cut them in half to make them fit into the Ninja Grill/Smoker. All the Baby Back Ribs we have are too long to fit in the Ninja Grill/Smoker. This will be our next cook on the Ninja WOODFIRE Outdoor Grill and Smoker 4-in-1. When grilling you have the choices of LO, MED, HI, and your choice of time. I have no idea at what temperature those settings achieve. When using SMOKER and the BAKE mode, you have the choice of up to 400 degrees and your choice of time. ROAST mode will achieve up to 425 degrees and your choice of time. We cook a great deal of food on our large pellet smoker, even if it is just a couple of burgers. Now this unit will be our go to smoker for great burgers, etc., we will try a 8–9-pound brisket point eventually. A lot less pellets and quicker to fire up! I find the times for cooks based on the accompanying QUICK GUIDE are short. As I stated above, this NINJA WOODFIRE OUTDOOR GRILL/SMOKER 4-in-1 is very simple to use and does produce some great outdoor cooking/smoking. Easy to clean and maintain.

I have owned several Ninja products, and this outdoor grill is definitely my favorite. Setup is easy, the instructions are clear and there’s a recipe book to begin with. I’m not much of a BBQ guy so cooking a great tasting steak has always been somewhat of a challenge. I can cook steaks, but I have never got huge compliments from the family. I know that I should start to use smoker grill if I want to make great steaks. So, I was on a quest to make a great steak for the family as soon as I got the Ninja outdoor grill. I had a great tenderloin meat to start, and I seasoned the meat well. The grill offers ample capacity, making it suitable for preparing steaks for an entire family. Preheating would take 10 to 20 minutes, and each grilling session maintains consistent results, subject to the desired level of doneness for the steak. The grill will tells us when to flip the steak on each grilling session. I followed the recipe book's grilling time on my first attempt, but the steak ended up a bit overcooked for my taste. This was perfectly normal on a first try and it doesn’t really matter because the whole family still enjoyed my steak very much. The steak had a distinct smoky flavor, and it was juicy and very tasty. The kids really enjoyed the steak and made a big rave about it, so I know I’m in the right direction. On the second try the next day, the wood pellets somehow were not burned by the grill, and I was not sure what happened. The steak came out great and it tasted excellent even without the smoky flavor. The seasoning and marinade were well absorbed. Still, this outdoor grill is a great product. The only thing to figure out for me is experimenting with how long the meat should be grilled on a given setting: low, mid or high. That is easy enough and I have been getting satisfactory results using the high setting. And also, the potential of the grill is enormous as I look forward to making some briskets. Cleaning the grill and grease tray were easy and storing it in the garage was simple enough thanks to its portable size. In conclusion, this is a great cooking tool that is easy to use and has a lot of potential.

I have been thinking about a smoker for a while, and I am delighted with this Ninja smoker. I love the idea of an electric element for heat and using pellets for the smoke. There's no charcoal prep, mess, etc. This machine is heavy, almost 30 lbs., and feels high quality. It comes with a great guide and recipe book. The grill grate is super non-stick. Stuff just slides right off. That could be because I haven't cooked with very high heat, so nothing has burned on. As one of the other reviewers found, if you don’t fill the smoke box up all the way, the pellets don't light properly. I tried to get away with using a little less since I was just cooking burgers, but the pellets didn't seem to fully light, and I ended up having to add more pellets and run an ignition cycle again. From here on out, I'll just fill the smoke box as directed. The bag of pellets provided is generous. It says you can get 3 sessions out of it, but I was able to get 6 and that included filling up the smoke box twice while making ribs. I have cooked a few things so far and I've been happy with everything: I started with a reverse seared NY strip. For comparison I cooked one using the smoker setting at 200 degrees and I cooked two more in the oven at the same temp. The steak on the Ninja was done much sooner, in fact I wasn't paying attention, and it got up to 165 by the time I noticed. It was kind of tough as a result, but the flavor was excellent. I didn't even bother searing it because it had a good crust on it. I'll cook it at a lower temp next time. Next, I tried out hamburgers using the smoker setting. Those were delicious. It only took 30 minutes at 200 degrees to get them to 130 degrees, so they weren't as smoky as the steak, but were still delicious. It was probably more like getting the charcoal flavor than fully smoked burners. I've don’t burgers twice with the Ninja and they were excellent both times. They get a good enough crush on them that I don’t feel the need to sear them. The last thing I did was baby back ribs. I followed the recipe in the provided book except I flipped them about halfway through and spritzed them a few times with water to keep them from drying out. The result was delicious. They only cooked for about 2.5 hours, so they weren't as smoky as a smoke house, but for how easy it was, it was delicious. Everyone agrees they were almost as good as our favorite smokehouse except that they didn't have as much of a smoky flavor as the smokehouse. Conclusion: If you are thinking about getting an electric smoker, I would definitely recommend this Ninja smoker. It is very easy to use and very easy to clean.

The Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Grill & Smoker is by far one of the easiest, most convenient cooking utensils I have had! I consider myself a grill master. I have experience with pretty much every type of grill. This includes charcoal, gas, and even pellet grills. I can honestly say that this grill packs a punch! First of all, it is light weight and only uses a small footprint. It is electric so, realistically, all you need is a power outlet. This grill would be perfect for a camper or small apartment with limited outdoor space. Keep in mind, this is for outdoor use. My absolute favorite part is the small pellet box on the right side of the grill. Using the provided scoop, you can measure out the exact amount of pellets needed to fill up the box. Once you plug the grill in and turn it on, you can turn on the smoke feature. This grill puts out an impressive amount of smoke! I was pleasantly surprised! It is worth mentioning that the pellet box is not very large so you may have to add more pellets during your cook should you require more smoke. I was very impressed with the smoke flavor this grill added during the cooking process! My food tastes great! The grill has a large, removable nonstick cooking surface. Underneath that surface is a large electric heating element. Above that surface in the lid is a fan that circulates the heat and smoke inside the cooking chamber. On the back of the grill lid is a vent where the smoke exits during cooking. The grill has multiple push buttons on the front that control the functions. It can grill, smoke, bake, and even roast! This model does NOT have the air crisp feature that some other models perform. When you first turn on the grill, it will preheat. Once the preheat cycle is finished, it will prompt you to open the lid and add your food! After your cooking is complete, the removable drip tray on the bottom of the device and the removable cooking surface inside the grill are both super easy to clean! Nothing was cooked on or stuck on the cooking surface! I simply removed it, washing it with warm, soapy water, and it was ready to go again! It really doesn't get much easier than this grill! This is the perfect grill for those nights when you want that smoky, grilled goodness without the hassle of firing up the charcoal grill! Go ahead and buy it! You will be glad you did!

I am a huge Ninja fan. I have two different blenders, we have an air fryer and now we have this AMAZING little electronic outdoor grill & smoker. My husband has been going back and forth on buying a big smoker to have that ability to cook delicious, smoke flavored meat. Because we are new to this whole smoking meat business, I figured this would be a great trial unit to see if we really wanted to invest in a full size smoker. Out of the box, it was an easy peasy setup. My husband used a pop up work bench that he had in the garage as our grill holder. He unwrapped all the plastic covering the grill plate and grease drip pan. Plugged it in and after reading a few start up instructions, we powered it on, used 1 scoop of the pellets that came with the grill and started to let it pre-heat. After watching a few “how to” videos, many suggested waiting to allow the unit to fully preheat before placing the meat on the grill. Some noticed that the smoke flavor was a little stronger if they didn’t go through the full cycle of preheating. Prior to taking it all out of the box, we had a 3lb Beef Tri Tip fully seasoned and resting for approximately 3 hours prior to cooking. After 10 mins of pre-heating, we put the tri tip on the griddle and shut the lid. You could smell the smokey flavor coming out as the grill was preheating. The smell was SO good and I was very excited to have this meat finish cooking. We set the temp to 225 degrees and cooked it for close to 3 hours. The grease pan worked well, it was very easy to clean afterwards as well. The meat cooked very nice and evenly. The Smokey flavor was just a push of a button and it activated that “Woodfire” smoke mode and the meat was just perfect. One thing I’d like to see maybe in the future for this machine would be disposable grease pans like the Blackstone grills have and a longer power cord (just a bit over 3ft long). Overall, we love this Ninja grill & smoker. I love the size and convenience. For a family of 4, the grill size was absolutely perfect when we made burgers using just the grill mode, no smoke. I was able to fit 10 decent sized burgers on the grill and all cooked very nice and even. I cannot wait to use roast mode for a chuck roast this weekend. Ninja has yet to let me down and they definitely made a great unit with this machine.

    Very well designed electric grill

This is a small, electric Outdoor grill. The cooking surface can hold about four corn cobs, or four burgers at a time. Uses up to 1750 W of electricity which is about as much as a regular power outlet can safely handle (About 15 Amps). Like other Ninja products, it masters convection cooking. The main heating element is on the bottom and also has a fan and additional heating coils on the top section of the lid. It can also smoke cook. On its side it has a metal container for specialty wood pellets that get ignited via heating coils, which produces the wood smoke. Using the smoke is completely optional. So far I've used for weekend grilling. It heats fast and cooks evenly. The cooking surface is an enameled aluminum pan that heats very evenly. Usage is simpler to operate than most toasters. Turn it on, set up the mode: Grill, smoker, etc. and the temperature. For grilling is High, Medium or Low. There are precise temperature controls for smoking mode. And because it has a convection fan, it can also be used for baking Cooking steaks, vegetables, corn is simple like in any other grill, with very helpful features. To start grilling, it will let you know when it's done pre-heating and it's ready to add food. When putting a timer, it will remind half-time to flip the food. The cooking surface is easy to clean, it can be washed in a sink once it cools down. It's meant to keep outdoors, so it's built with thick metal and heavy duty plastics. The power cord is short and includes a self-resetting GFCI plug. If you need an extension, and you'll likely need one, make sure it's rated for high amp tools. One important caveat is that the top cover is not removable and holds the fan and other heating elements. Because it's a small unit, it will be greased up when cooking meats or from vegetable oils. So after it cooled down, I cleaned most of it with heavy duty shop disposable towels. It cleaned pretty well but it's impossible to completely clean it well because of the fan assembly. I like everything else about this. There are few accessories available for this, like a rolling pedestal, which itself has accessory side tables and outdoor cover which should be a must if kept outdoors. Overall a fun to use, uncomplicated electric grill.

    Great Electric Smoker, perfect BBQ!

To say I'm a smoking expert would be an extreme overstatement. I've never smoked a piece of meat in my life until I had my ninja woodfire grill. Ninja has created an easy-to-use smoker that uses wood pellets to infuse your barbecue and other meats with wonderful flavors. It is so easy to use that even a novice like me got fantastic results. For my first victim I chose a pork butt. All I did was trim the fat off the meat along with any tendon that was remaining. Spread some seasoning rub all over the pork taking care of it to coat all sides. I placed it on the grilling tray of the Ninja grill, loaded up the pellet Hopper and set it to smoke. The grill automatically set the temperature to 250 and the time to four hours and 50 minutes. I changed that to 5 hours and 50 minutes just to give me some time to achieve the doneness I needed. I pressed the wood fire button and it started right up igniting the pellets and then right into the cooking cycle. I had placed a Ninja Bluetooth temperature probe into the pork butt so I could monitor the temperature and estimate the cooking time, it's a great addition to any grillers tools. I added pellets about two more times, maybe once every hour and a half as they got used up. Each time you have to press the wood fire button to ignite the pellets. After about 5 hours my 6 lb pork butt was done! I wrapped it within tin foil and let it rest for about an hour before shredding it. Let me tell you, that was the best pork barbecue I've ever had bar none. Ninja is a winner in my book. So this grill also does standard grilling and roasting which I have yet to try. My main use for this will be for smoking meats. I have a gas grill that I use for grilling. But if you live in an apartment that does not allow gas grills or anything with fire this would be the perfect solution. Cleaning up was easy just soap and water for the grilling surface and dumping out the grease tray from underneath. If you've been wanting a smoker that's easy, fast and efficient I highly recommend the Ninja Woodfire grill.

    Compact grill without the flame

This is a nice compact, but heavy, grill that is electric. I like that we don’t need propane or charcoal & there is no flame jumping up at me when I open the grill to flip meat. You can use the pellet ashes in your garden afterward. Setup & use is very easy. I have a Ninja indoor grill & this works pretty much the same. There are four settings, grill, smoke, bake & roast, this model doesn’t have air fry. I made chicken breasts on the grill setting with wood fire, all settings can be used with wood fire or plain, not sure why you’d want to bake with a smoky taste but if that’s your preference then I guess it’s ok. A small bag of pellets came with it & a scoop to put them in. Preheat setting is recommended but you can bypass it by pressing start/stop button for 4 seconds. It tells you when to add the food & flip it. I used perfect portions chicken breasts on medium heat, they’re a bit thin so I felt they were a bit dry, I would suggest a thicker meat. They cooked pretty quickly & had a mild smoky flavor, there are robust pellets available for a bolder smoky flavor but this all purpose blend was enough for me. I also used frozen sweet potatoes & on the wood fire feature they weren’t quite finished when the chicken was so I switched it over to grill & then they cooked very fast, almost too fast & tasted much smokier than the meat. I will probably never use the smoke feature because I’m not a fan of really smoked meat, the wood fire is good enough. I also do not eat steak or pork so I can’t comment on how those taste or cook. You can roast a whole chicken on here & the grill holds pretty much food at one time. When you add the pellets it smokes pretty much at first & it gets very hot ! The pellets are one time use & are a bit expensive for a bag. I decided to bake cookies, the grill holds about a dozen cookies & I set it at 350 degrees for 10 minutes like my regular oven. Within 7 minutes they were starting to burn & came out dry & crumbly, I will try this again but on a much lower heat setting! The smoky smell was still there while baking but the cookies didn’t taste smoked. They slid right off & all the crumbs were caught in the drip tray. There is a recipe book with a few recipes & some pointers & tips on usage. The grill grate was very easy to clean. It’s definitely a learning process knowing what temperature to use & how long to leave it on, just like the indoor grill this cooks very hot & very fast so I find that most things are dry & overdone. I’m sure with time I’ll improve. The cord is so short that you need an outdoor extension cord unless you want it on the floor or right next to your house, we had it on a table & it only reached halfway. Accessories like a cover, stand & griddle plate are sold separately & are very pricey! For now we’ll just use it on a workmate. I like this but honestly I still think the food tastes better & more temperature controlled on my gas grill so the four stars are for that & the expensive accessories.

    Outstanding outdoor electric grill/smoker

The Ninja Woodfire Outdoor 4-in-1 Smoker/Grill is a versatile option for those who want that BBQ taste, but don’t necessarily want something that’s really big, or to deal with propane or charcoal. It’s portable (though definitely not lightweight–it’s got some *real* heft to it), and the one thing I’ve learned is that you need something good to set it on. Ninja makes its own accessory stand (along with a grill cover to keep it outside); there are third-party stands as well, and none of those are cheap. While the versatility and (relatively) small size provide a lot of value, that value proposition is dinged a little because you find yourself leaning towards going after accessories. (Which I’ve decided I will probably do–the stand, at least.) My gas grill is old and doesn’t work well and thus was due for replacement, but for a family of four like mine, I frankly think I’ll let this take over the grilling duties and not bother to replace my gas grill. I’d say that’s a pretty solid endorsement! That said, my time with it so far has been good. Weather has marred my plans somewhat, with lots of recent rain (my pork shoulder finished just in time to avoid a massive thunderstorm!), and this is very definitely an outdoor appliance. I really liked being able to go from out of the box to smoking in just a few minutes: time enough to unpack everything, read through the manual, and wash up parts like the removable grill: I spent almost as long at the grocery store looking for meat to try out. Setting up is easy; there’s a fair amount of packing material to undo, then the washable parts, and replacing them (grill tray and the drip pan). Included in the packaging is a starter park of all-purpose wood pellets for smoking and a convenient scoop for measuring them out along with guide and recipe booklet. I used a small outdoor folding table as a stand–it was *just* big enough to hold everything. The included cord isn’t terribly long but was sufficient to reach one of my outdoor GFCI outlets. You can use an extension cord but just make sure to follow the guidelines in the manual on what exactly you need, specifications-wise. You do need to watch for clearance around it, especially when using the smoker. I smoked a 4lb pork shoulder as per the recipe suggestions that were included. I rubbed it with BBQ seasoning and salt/pepper. When following the smoker preset, you don’t have to wait for pre-heating: after filling the smoker attachment with pellets, you simply add the food, set time/temperature (here, 4 hours at 250deg F), and press start. It then goes through an ignition cycle that lasts 5-7 minutes, after which the timer will engage. Five hours later (four hours cooking plus an hour or so of rest), we were treated to some fantastic pulled pork. I was very impressed with how it turned out (see picture below) and how easy it was. The next time I do it I will probably refill the smoker with pellets since they don’t last the whole time. I tried grilling next. Grilling is less granular in control than the smoker, with low, medium, and high settings. The grill preheats pretty quickly, although you can skip that cycle if you want. I did some spicy mettwursts on the grill (also pictured below). I started on medium but found it too hot–the medium ran like I thought high would–and turned down to low. They didn’t take long at all to cook and if I hadn’t kept my eye on them, they’d have been ruined. But that’s part of learning how it cooks. There are roast and bake functions as well, but I’ve not used them nor do I think, absent taking it on a trip with me, I would use them vs. an oven, simply because grilling/smoking are pretty much inevitably outdoors cooking functions, and the other two aren’t. Still, it’s nice to have and adds to the versatility, and there’s a pretty good range of options for temperatures vs. the grill’s 3 temp settings. Afterwards, the grill grate is easy to remove and wash. I found it cleaned up very easily, and I like that it’s big enough to be useful but not so big as to be difficult to handle when cleaning. Likewise, the grease trap underneath is similarly easy to pull out and wash. Neither part is dishwasher-safe, but I’m not surprised by that. The bottom line: it’s a great device, small in footprint if not in weight (at almost 30 pounds), but it does a really nice job. And as I said, I’m going to let this replace my gas grill and will invest in its other accessories. I’ve had a lot of Ninja kitchen products over the years–I’m at the point I have a lot of trust in the quality of the brand–and this grill matches the high expectations I’ve had with the others. Recommended.

Ninja makes everything easier. Every Ninja product I've ever had takes whatever the product lane is, and super simplifies it. The Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Grill & Smoker is no different. While it can't guarantee you a perfect brisket, the products overall ease of use is second to none. Setup...plug it up, bam, good to go. The grill comes largely pre-assembled. Attach the grease pan on the back, but the grill on top of the heater, you're ready to go. As this is an electric grill and smoker, I was able to use it at my apartment, which is a major win. The display is super easy to read and understand, as is the display on most Ninja appliances I've used. The grill came with some wood pellets, allowing me to test it out and I did. The smoked salmon I made came out perfect! The one recommendation I would suggest is if you don't already have a meat thermometer, get one, as this doesn't come with it. My brisket...The Ninja grill did what it was supposed to do on the smoker settings, I may have some opportunities for improvement on my end. My grilled shrimp came out perfect as well, so clearly the Ninja Woodfire Grill and Smoker held up it's end of the bargain. While the grill itself came with wood pellets, there is a huge variety of options which would add different smokey flavors to your meat. I'm excited to try out more. Overall, as a grill, as a smoker. Ninja came through with the Woodfire Outdoor Grill and Smoker. I'd highly recommend it to anyone, especially someone in an apartment, looking for an outdoor grill that limits variables.

I've never owned a grill, but I've used them in locations before several times and always wanted a grill or "grill like" device for some outdoor cooking so the Ninja intrigued me because it seemed to be the air fryer answer to traditional grilling. I already have a Ninja air fryer and love that thing. I use it almost everyday. The box is deceiving due to its size and weight because once you peel back a substantial amount of packaging you're left with what is a very small compact grill that comes completely pre-assembled. When I say small I mean it is almost the same size as my laser printer which happen to be on the counter at the same time. To really, "get the full experience," Ninja has right on the lip of the box all the nifty accessories you can order for their grill including a proper collapsible stand, outdoor cover, proper interchangeable flat top grilling tray and wood pellet refills. None of these besides a starter pack of wood pellets is included. It is just the stand alone grill and that's it. The unit is very solidly built with the weight to back it up. It includes a short power cord so you will need a thick UL rated grounded power cord extension cable (not included) to plug it in. Controls are very straight forward as is using the pellets. This really feels like a BBQ Air Fryer in its ease of operation. I lugged it outside and set it up on our deck patio table, ran an extension cord from our lawn mower and set out trying some cooking and this is when I realized the cooking area is small...VERY small. No way you're hosting a large BBQ with this thing or you will be rotating meats and dishes in multiple cycles all night. It can hold a tomahawk steak and maybe two decent bone in ribeye steaks at the same time. So how does it perform? Decent. I "grilled" up a few ribeye steaks and some chicken along with some veggies. The only downside was it took three independent cooking sessions for each thing because when I say this is small, it is small. I know when I used a more traditional grill, I was able to move and section things as needed along with position things higher or lower depending on the heat levels desired. I do love that this thing hits some screamingly high temps for a decent sear and char and fast cooking. The smoke flavor is decent. I am going to try some different types of woods and chips to see if they work outside of the pellets. Like a traditional BBQ grill, if things get too hot, you can vent or just lift the lid momentarily to help drop some of the temp a bit but unlike a real BBQ grill that has proper air/space between the charcoal and the grilling items, this uses a traditional heating element positioned right below your items so outside of lifting them off and/or dropping the temp, you options are limited. Clean up is a breeze. A quick wipe down along with bringing in the grilling plate for a fast wash and you're done, speaking of which. There is also the issue for after you're done. You really can't leave it outside as is. It doesn't come with a stand or cover so we ended up lugging it back in the house and putting it in our back storage room till next time. A set of proper side handles instead of grooves on the bottom would have gone a long way. In summary? Quite honestly, it feels like a glorified George Forman grill. That isn't an insult as I used my George Forman grill till it broke down and then bought another but this is the feel I get from the Ninja. Normally priced at ~$349.99, you can get a very nice real outdoor grill for that price with much more space and better grilling but what you're really paying for here is size, convenience and instant on and that is where it shines. I will continue to use it, but after a few sessions with it, I think this will end up being a gateway into a proper BBQ grill. Still, if the objective is to get some of the benefits of a BBQ grill without the hassle of propane, charcoal, taking of space, more cleaning required or potential ramp up time before use, the Ninja is actually a decent compromise.

I have always wanted to play around with smokers like a Trager, but I have never wanted to deal with the hassle. I love smoked foods, but I had messes and ongoing frustrating maintenance that some of these smokers seem to entail. When I found this Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Grill and Smoker, I was intrigued. I have been cooking on a small propane barbeque for a while as well as a Blackstone griddle, so I was really curious to see how this compact but utilitarian grill would fit into our weekly cooking routine. Well, I am happy to report that it has found itself to now be a STAPLE of our cooking schedule! The deal is, I am a busy millennial dad, and I desire simplicity and straightforward means to cook. I don’t need a charcoal grill I have to baby and nurse into being and consistent temperatures over an hour’s time. I just want something that I can turn on, add food to, and then take off the grill when it is done. This outdoor grill meets that need perfectly with built in temperature settings, cooking modes, timers, and foolproof instructions on a handy cooking guide even down to which time and temperature for various cuts and sizes of meats and foods! I will say that for grilling, it takes up to 18 minutes for it to get through preheating, but once it is heated, it cooks quite a bit faster than I am used too! I thick sirloin that normally takes 15 minutes with one flip in the middle on my propane grill only took about 8 means! Much of this has to do with how consistent the heat is across the Ninja grill plate according to my laser temperature probe and the fact that the overhead fan component of the grill is constantly circulating the heat above the food within the well-insulated environment of the grill. In other words, this grill is really efficient! The smoking function is really cool and something I plan on exploring a lot more as I go on. The included booklet has some great ideas for recipes for pork shoulder and more and I want to explore those. The included pellets imparted a pretty good flavor and color on a sirloin that I grilled and smoked, but I will certainly be exploring more pellet options as I go. It should be noted that only pellets approved for use with the Ninja woodfire grill should be used, you can’t just go use random pellets from any old smoker! One place I have to knock two stars off from is that I have noticed that on my very hot back patio in the summer heat, where it can exceed 105 degrees in the direct sunlight, this Ninja grill will just shut off! I have trouble shot it and even attempted direct plug in to the outlet with the built in power cord, so it isn’t a short or a problem with power rating and delivery. It must be some sort of safety mechanism or malfunction, but seems silly given that this is a GRILL that is supposed to be able to handle high temperatures. I will be consulting with customer service for more info, and will be back to update my review if they are helpful and this problem I experienced was just a one off unit experience. Altogether, this is a very compelling little outdoor cooking device, but it needs some more evaluation for me to decide whether I would really go about recommending it to friends and family. Thanks for reading and I hope this review was helpful!

Awesome little grill with great variety of features. Biggest issue is keeping under the hood clean. As some others have stated, it is nearly impossible to clean the fan on the hood as it is covered by a protective grill that does not come off. Other than that issue, everything else has been great. The guide it comes with helps as well with knowing cook time with this grill until you get used to it.

The Ninja Woodfire is a Gamechanger but you definitely need a thermometer to keep from oversmoking! Purchased a BT thermometer and it changed the game. Extremely convenient electric grill for burgers and chicken so far. The smoker is great as long as you don’t follow the Ninja Recipe book, otherwise you will be chewing for days, despite the great flavor.
