Very good console. It's not required having a 3ds to have fun. My 2ds does everything.

Space between screens and DS transfer

I have a 3DS xL that is gold and black limited. As nice as that might sound, I Wanted something portable without waiting for the "new" 3ds. Lo and behold--i loved the 2DS. Except for 2 things. Design and manufacturing flaws AND 3DS system transfer. Its amazingly comfortable even for hands as big as mine, even more portable because its not all flippy as its bigger brothers(still suggest a screen protector and a nifty case) and has all u need to enjoy the library of games already available sans stereo spekers and 3D gaming for a VERY reasonable price. The design flaw i want to address isnt a major concern for most people except those afraid of getting dust under their screens...Which is what i had. The screen has a few mm of space from the actual clear sheet of plastic that protects it. and that bothers me because it gives dust extra space to easily enter. Why manufacturer flaw u ask? Because the unit i received had some dust inside from the factory and i couldnt easily get rid of it. Second concern of mine is NOT with the 2ds but with Nintendo. They need to unify all accounts to have access to their content. i did not want to transfer my entire library from my 3DS xL to my 2DS as it was my intention to sinply use my cartidges on the 2DS. What did i find? Some games I tried had saves not in the cart but in the SD card of my unit. Bad news? Yes because SD card data is specific to NNID and DS. so sadly my plan did not work entirely and the only solution is to have transferred ALL my 30gb of games plus their saves onto my 2DS and scrap my Limited Edition Zelda 3DS XL. So what i say to this? If it is a gift to a child who has no knowledge of anything i just mentioned and it is solely for a local experience with no worries of multiple systems or downloads, then YES BUY IT its a great systen with great games. But if you are in a situation like mine, hold off until we finally get the "new" 3ds. Money is worth spending on those consoles. Same price as a full 3DS (not 2DS) with a plethora of techy upgrades.

I purchased this system with MarioKart 7 in a bundle package to give to a child as a "Secret Santa" gift. The product was presented well, easy to use right out of the box, and was already over half way charged upon opening (very important for a kid)! The fact that this bundle included a great game with it made it a no-brainer for the price. Nintendo has consistently made great portable gaming systems, and I like this one even better than the 3DS, which I feel is still a bit overpriced for what it is. The 2DS (this system) is perfect for no frills gaming and filling any spare time you have in a fun way.

I was in the market for a handheld gaming system for my 6 year old daughter. We had a Leap Pad 2 before, and we were not impressed by the longevity. After much research, we decided to buy her a Nintendo 2DS, since it was sturdier for smaller children, and we didn't want her to hurt her eyes with a 3DS. I decided to buy this product off of Best Buy since the website had the one we wanted (the Blue one with the Mario Kart game code) for the best deal. Both Amazon and Walmart had this gaming system, but were more expensive. I bought it at BestBuy.com, and opened it upon arrival. We will be giving this to our daughter for Christmas, and I wanted to make sure that I was happy with the quality and design. I was pleased with both. It is more complicated to use than the Leap Pad, but it is also much more advanced and high quality. I'm sure that she will love playing on it once she opens it on Christmas morning. I downloaded the Mario Kart game on it. It took me about 2 hours to set everything up and download the game, so I was glad that it did that ahead of time so she can play on it as soon as she opens it. I will update my review once we've had it for a longer period of time, but I am pretty confident that it will work well for our needs!

    My Son Loves It!

This was a Christmas present from Santa for my 8-year-old son. He wanted a 3DS, but that wasn't in Santa's budget. When he realized that the 2DS could play the 3DS games (just not in 3D), he was all for it. Both he and his 6-year-old brother love this hand-held game. The graphics and sound are great, the battery life is very good, and it has a built in camera. You can access the internet through the 2DS if you have a WiFi connection at your home--which we don't. All in all, this is a great gaming system since it plays both DS and 3DS games. My only issue with this game was that it came with a free MarioKart7 game which my son wanted anyway. I thought this bundle was a great deal in order to get both in one package. We were under the impression that the game cartridge was included in the box, but it wasn't. It had to be downloaded. As I already stated, we don't have WiFi at our house, and my son had to wait several days to visit the home of a relative with WiFi in order to actually acquire MaroKart7. It was pretty disappointing for an 8-year-old on Christmas morning to not be able to play his new game. Now, over a month later, all is well. The 2DS is performing just fine, and everyone is happy. I would recommend this for your little video gamer.

I picked this 2ds up as a secondary game system just to carry around. It is lighter than the 3ds model and not as big or bulky. You do have to understand that the screen is smaller. I picked this item up to have with me when i am standing in line waiting for the amiibos. It plays well and does the job and great to have if you need something smaller to carry around and still want to play games.

I hadn't had a gameboy in years when I got this on a whim. It surprised me with its comparatively long battery life, capable gameplay, and wonderful game selection. Its somewhat fuzzy screen is the only thing holding this wonderful device back. I think I'm back in Nintendoland.

I bought the Red/Black and Blue/Black models for my 2 younger sons last year for Christmas. They love them... and so do I. So, I bought the Mint Green/White model for MYSELF. Now, we can all play multiplayer games together!!! The nicest thing about the Mint Green/White model is that the Mario Kart 7 software was Pre-Installed; so, I didn't have to spend the extra time downloading it from the Nintendo e-shop. (Both the Red and Blue models came with a code for a free download of Mario Kart 7.) I just recently ordered another one for my 27 year-old son. It's a nice little system at a GREAT price. And... Nintendo e-shop cards will make great stocking stuffers this Christmas.

On one hand it has great games, on the other it is reasonably affordable. I bought this to play new Nintendo 3DS (not to be confused with the next handhelds coming out this year) and it hasn't disappointed me. Nintendo 3DS has the best games, and the 2DS is the cheapest way to enjoy these games. Also, that phantom stylus issue... Yeah that hasn't exactly happened to me. Very reliable and very awesome.

Purchased this when on sale and so far I have mainly used this a digital-only device, which has made it great for traveling and not needing to decide what game cartridges to bring with me. Whilst 3-D is not available, for the price, I'm happy to sacrifice that.

For the entry level price compared to other nintendo handhelds it is a great deal. With the 2DS you lose 3D function but that is mostly gimmick anyways. This allows you to still play 3DS games but without the 3D effect. There are some game you can even find that only need one cartridge to play on multiple handhelds at the same time allowing this to be a great gift for multiple kids in the same home or for kids who play this with friends at school or home. Being that the second screen doesn't fold closed like the other models you will need something to protect this though.

Definitely purchase this over the more expensive 3DS if you don't care about the 3D. It also comes with a charger which retails at about 10$ and a Mario Kart 7 download code which is about $20. So you're really only paying about 50$ for the console itself! It also doesn't have any glossy finishings like the 3DS does so you won't have to worry about fingerprint smudges. The only downside is that it has no clam shell design but no worries since I will only be playing this at home.

Bought a Nintendo 2ds for our grandson' s birthday. He wanted it so he can play regular and Nintendo 3's games. He convinced us the 2 would be better than the 3ds for him. He can play 1.5 hrs a day on video games and he is thrilled with it. Great gift for him.

i've been doing research on the nintendo ds for the last 2 most for my 5 year old daughter. She has had the original leaped since she was 2 . She's completely taken over my tablet with wanting to play games so this was the next best thing. My daughter loves Disney and everything that come's with it so i was elated to know that nintendo had princess games on top of My little pony, Barbie and LAlaloopsy . Just to name a few i'm going to purchase her. This gaming console is perfect for her little hands . It reminds me of the "game boy". Now to my parents, with small children like myself, I purchased a 3 years protection plan just in case any damages or malfunctions with this system. I would also suggest you open it first and set it up because that took about a half hour and if your little one is just as anxious as mine with new toys they aren't going to want to wait for you to do that lol. Other than that the system is very user friendly and i can't wait to see herself come Christmas morning.

This product is ideal for everyone who likes playing once in a while, indoors. I believe for a better outdoors experience this console could do it too if you don't mind the reflex of the surroundings on your screen. I think 3d gaming is overrated, so that's the reason i bought this console and not the 3ds xl. BTW, zelda games & mario kart are a perfect companion for this little guy,

This game system plays any nintendo 3ds or xd. The only difference is that plays it on 2d but the colors and images looks great if u don't want to spend over$200 this is the way to go.very good for the money. Plus mario kart 7 is already install in it.

"Santa" gave this to my 4yr old and he loves it. Easier to handle for him than the 3DS XL which my 7yr and 6yr old has. With it able to play both 3DS and DS games, they all are able to share games.

My son had a 3DSIXL for about two years before he dropped it and it broke in two. I really did not want to buy another one knowing he was only 7 and would drop it by mistake again. That's when I saw the 2DS option. It is great! It is compatible with all 3DS games and also can connect to other 3DSiXLs. The only two differences are it does not fold small. But this also makes is way more sturdy! And it is not in 3D which I didn't let my kids play on much because their eyes would hurt. The 2DS is a win win overall and at a WAY better price!
