    Major Design Flaw

I am an avid Nintendo fan but this product has a serious flaw. On our 9 year old sons first Blue 2ds XL unit, after only 2 months of use the top screen picture started showing a large triangle shape with a crack and horizontal and vertical lines throughout rendering the unit unusable at all. Thinking he must have dropped it or damaged it unknowingly by accident, we bought him a second 2ds XL, (the new orange version) and within 2 weeks that unit started having the same exact issue and we know for a fact he didn't drop that one and used it very gently-the lines crack and everything were exactly identical to the first one. Luckily the orange unit was purchased from Target with a RedCard and they refunded us on a gift card for that unit. However, the Blue Unit purchased from Bestbuy will have to go through Nintendo's repair process which I'm almost certain they'll want some unreasonable amount of money for (Usually $110 for 3ds XL Screen Repair). My other son has had two 3ds XL's and the oldest previously had a standard 2ds. I personally started gaming on the original Game Boy and we have a plethora of Nintendo products at home (Wii, WiiU, Switch and 2/3DS). It appears the new Nintendo products are not being made with the same quality as previous generations. Search REDDIT for the following thread from another user experiencing the same issue "New 2DS XL Top Screen Broke in Pocket? Really?"

Small screen size of the Nintendo 2DS ended up being a deal-breaker for me. I swapped for the 2DS XL, opting out of the $50 extra 3-D feature of the 3DS XL, and it was an excellent decision. Larger screen size and reduced weight improves gaming experience. Resolution is acceptable (no different than the 3DS XL anyway). I've had no issues with the speaker placement, though I do feel vibration when played without headphones. That might be annoying, but I don't play without headphones. No complaints about the small stylus (The most stylus-heavy game I've played so far is Hey!Pikmin, and I have small-ish hands to begin with). I haven't timed battery life, but I'm pleased and can guarantee at least 5 hrs of play on my device. The color is great as I wanted something that didn't camouflage with all my other black devices. Overall, the 2DS XL is a no-regrets purchase with bang for your buck, especially as your one-and-only DS and if you eventually want the Nintendo Switch (my case).

I bought this system to replace my 3ds xl and would have to say it is a solid device. The weight is a lot better than the 3ds xl for long gaming sessions and the fact that the device itself is not glossy finger print magnet helps as well. But there are some draw backs as well like the fact that I don't know how many impacts this thing would be able to take if you drop it or are rough with your devices. The screens also don't seem as vibrant as the 3ds xl screens do and the speakers are now located at the bottom of the device unlike the 3ds xl which are with the top screen. In conclusion if you don't care about 3d but want to play the great library of games that Nintendo has for there system then buy this 2ds xl you won't regret you purchase.

I had an old 3DS XL from around 2013 or so that's seen better days, and I figured it was time to get a new one so I could transfer everything over. Pretty nice setup overall, not particularly fond of the orange/white combo but I can live with it since the choices were pretty slim. It's considerably lighter weight than the old ones which is a huge plus, seems like it runs much smoother than the original as well. The button layout is miles better than the original as well! If your on the fence about getting a new 3DS/2DS definitely consider getting one of these! Either the pokeball one or this one would definitely be a steal!

I always wanted to try Nintendo device (cant let go of my childhood memory of Mario) and gave this a shot. the most disappoint thing is i still feel like Nintendo got stuck in the 1980's. The video resolution is bad, still feels like i am playing a 8 or 16 bit video game. lost interest in 2 days.. the 3 star is just because , it still has the Mario games that i can play once in a while. Microsoft and Sony undersell their hardware to make money elsewhere. and i felt for 160$ (we can get an Iphone SE on sale for that amount) i was given a crappy piece of hardware

Purchased the handheld console for my 10 year old son, has had plenty of fun with the unit, only reason I gave it 3 stars is that it is a fragile device, after almost a year of usage the hinge has cracked, and the screens no longer work, mind you it is used by a 10 year old and has been dropped a few times, no fault on the manufacturer. Just be aware that it is not a rugged device, I regret not getting some sort of accident protection for the device. Will get another one but will opt for the non clamshell form factor.

I have a 3DS XL, but this 2DS XL is a great second system: It's lighter and easier to carry around. Missing from the 3DS XL: 3D graphics and forward-facing speakers. The speakers face downward and are not as loud. Also missing are the contacts for charging in a 3DS XL dock, but you can find 2DS XL docks that use the charging port. The built-in stylus is short. One advantage of the 2DS XL is access to the SD card is much easier. If you only want one system, I'd get a 3DS XL. But if you want a second one, the 2DS XL is worth considering.

I looked at both this 2DS XL and the current gen 3DS XL and of the two this is definitely the better value if you don't see the 3D visual effects as a "must have" feature (it isn't really necessary to enjoy any game I've played on the 2DS/3DS platform). This has basically the same features, form factor and compatibility and costs $50 less (MSRP).

I have owned a 3DS since the original model and was tempted to buy another to get a larger screen. I found that I never use the 3D function so I was always a bit put off that the cheaper 2DS was not offered in the large screen form. This product delivered exactly what I was looking for - I couldn't be more happy with it.

This is a great compromise of you don't need/want 3D. It can play most DS games and ALL 3DS games, old or new! This new version has all of the same buttons as the NEW 3DS XL as well! Still a great system to get into since Nintendo has said they will continue to make new games well past 2018, not to mention they have a great library of current games!

this new 2DS nintendo came up with is a really big improvement from the original 2DS. i personaly am not a fan of the 3D visuals on the 3DS so im happy with this. it plasys all 3DS games and ds and has memory expansion capabilities and a c stick. I would have given it 5 stars but the only thing i didnt like was the cover where the games get inserted

We purchased this for our daughter for her birthday. RIght away, I liked it more than the 3DS. We were never a fan of the lenticular screen it had. While a neat effect, you had to hold it as the proper angle to get the effect. We may pick another up for us to use when on a trip.

I have been enjoying all my old games from my original Nintendo DS on this new system. The screen is bigger and it folds smaller than the first 2DS offered. This is a huge improvement. I am a little older so I don’t miss the 3D, in such a small system it’s not that bad a deal.

This item is good, but not quite as good as a 3DS. Battery doesn’t last nearly as long, and it also feels cheaply made. The camera and the hinge is integrated together and it folds around it. Screen isn’t quite as accurate as a 3DS, i’d Personally say the 3DS features are worth the extra $50

Although the DS platform has been around for years it's still worth buying if you're looking for a handheld gaming fix. The game catalog is huge since it's backwards compatible going back to the original Nintendo DS. You'll have plenty of games to choose from.

Purchased this system for one of my neices because she’s been into retro game remasters lately, she’s a college student so it helps whenever she’s traveling back home. Games can be physical copies or downloaded via Nintendo store internet

I like how the screen stays in place really well (It doesn't fall down if you are moving around. I also appreciate that the screen closes very flush compared to previous DS iterations. The device works great, feels great, and has a great battery life.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL is a great revision of the the New Nintendo 3DS XL model. Where the 3D was rarely used or sometimes even put into the 3DS games themselves, taking away the option gave way to a larger screen and is greatly appreciated.

I was debating between this and the 3ds. Honestly, this is a good buy. When playing games I have never thought to myself, "I wish I had the 3d option." If you don't care about the 3d option or want to save some extra money, then the 2ds is the way to go!

I bought this as a replacement for my son when his 3ds XL broke and he loves it! Unless you are a gamer that uses the 3d function a lot, this is a much better deal. Same size and and quality as the 3ds but about $50 less!
