A must own for docked play

Short version: the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is my preferred way to play on Switch. If I’m sitting down for a quick solo session or we’ve got a family night going, this is the controller I grab without thinking. It feels right in the hands, responds the way I expect, and never distracts from the game. No gimmicks—just a reliable pad that makes everything smoother. Out of the box it gives off that sturdy, “this will last” vibe. The finish doesn’t turn into a smudge magnet, the seams are tight, and nothing rattles or creaks. Pairing is simple, wake-from-sleep works instantly, and after a few minutes it just felt like the default. That impression stuck as I kept using it: quiet confidence, smart design, nothing flashy. Comfort is the big win. The grips sit naturally, the light texture on the back keeps it steady, and the weight lands right between light and solid. No finger gymnastics to reach anything, and no hand fatigue after longer sessions. In a family setting, that matters. Kids can hold it comfortably, guests who don’t game much can figure it out instantly, and nobody hands it back saying it feels weird. It’s easy to use, which turns “let’s play” into actually playing. The controls are dialed in. Sticks glide smoothly with just enough resistance to nail a drift or hold a steady aim, snapping back to center reliably. Triggers have satisfying travel—enough control without mush. Bumpers are easy to tap quickly. Face buttons have a crisp, deliberate click. And the D-pad is actually good for platformers and menus, registering the direction you meant instead of throwing accidental diagonals at the worst moment. You don’t think about it; it just does what you ask. Rumble and motion are handled with a light touch. Rumble adds subtle texture instead of buzzing your hands off, and motion controls are responsive when used, invisible when not. I never felt the need to turn either off, which is the best compliment I can give: they enhance the experience rather than shouting for attention. Battery life is great. I regularly forget to charge it because it keeps going across multiple sessions. USB-C charging is simple, and you can play while plugged in. In a family scenario that’s huge—fewer “controller’s dead” moments when everyone finally sits down. Keep a cable near the dock and you’ll barely think about it. As a family-friendly controller, it checks all the boxes. The layout makes sense for newcomers, the build has shrugged off a couple bumps and one coffee-table slide, and it’s easy to wipe clean. The distinct feel of each button helps people remember what does what. It’s the one we pass to whoever needs the “best” controller for a tough level or a clutch race. In real play, it’s a Swiss Army knife. Racers feel precise, platformers benefit from the D-pad and face buttons, action/adventure flows thanks to smooth camera and movement, and shooters feel steady and predictable. It’s consistently very good across genres. Trade-offs? It’s not the cheapest, and very small kids might prefer something lighter for now. If you want deep customization or swappable parts, this isn’t that—it’s a premium everyday controller, not an esports science project. But for most people, it nails what matters: comfort, reliability, responsive controls, and strong battery. Bottom line: this is my preferred input for Switch and the first thing I hand to family or friends. Buy it once, use it constantly, and stop thinking about controllers—you’ll be too busy playing.

The best controller for the Switch 2 by far

I picked up the Switch 2 Pro Controller because the Joy-Cons were starting to feel uncomfortable during longer sessions, and this honestly made a huge difference. The first thing I noticed was how comfortable it is to hold. The grip feels solid without being heavy, and the buttons have a really satisfying click. It feels like a proper controller you could use for hours without your hands getting tired. The sticks are smooth and accurate, which I appreciate because I play a lot of games that need precise movement. There’s no drifting or weird input issues, everything just works exactly how it should. The triggers also feel great and respond quickly. It definitely feels higher quality than most third-party options I’ve tried in the past. I also like how long the battery lasts. I’ve gone multiple play sessions without needing to charge it. When I do charge it, it’s pretty quick, and the USB-C cable is easy to plug in while playing if needed. The wireless connection has been solid too. No lag, no disconnects, just consistent gameplay. Overall, this controller feels like what the Switch 2 should come with by default. It’s comfortable, responsive, and way better for longer gaming sessions. If you play often or just want a better experience, this is the controller to get.

Super bad quality the plastic is just sprayed on differently so it feels better but the quality is so low for the price. And for it also to come with a dent on the button the quality control must be non existent The left joycon also has a weird rubber ridge on the side that bugs and it came like that

One of the best controllers Nintendo has released. And honestly, it competes with Playstation and Xbox for how it feels in your hands. It comes with a headphone jack as well, and the extra buttons on the back is incredibly helpful. Finally, the battery life blows the competition out of the water. You can use the controller for days at a time on a single charge

Gamer of over 30 years. Its… flawless

I’ve been gaming since I was 4-years old with the Sega Master System. Over some christmas’ I got a Sega Genesis, SNES, N64, and Gamecube. In my teenage years I starting buying multiple game consoles because i loved gaming and in this order bought a PS2, Wii, PS3, 360, PS4, Wii U, XB1, Switch, XSX, and most recently the Switch 2. Ive played a lot of games and used a lot of different controllers. I even used the the Wii U Pro, Xbox Elite, and Switch Pro controller. But I always seem to find something I firmly dislike with every console controller. The 360 battery pack in the way, the PS4 touchpad being useless and I’m personally not a fan of the symmetrical thumbsticks, since i prefer concave. The Xbox elite’s paddles feel too intrusive when attached. But this Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller is the BEST 1st party controller I have ever used. It feels comfortable in the hands. The thumbsticks are smooth, quiet, and responsive. The face buttons are large but flat and not slippery. Ergonomics feel natural. The rear GR and GL are flush to the back and completely non intrusive. The shoulder buttons feel firm. The ONLY thing i could see people (not me, but people) objecting to is that the L and R button wouldnt have the give like Xbox or PS controllers in a racing game where you didn’t want to play with the pedal to the metal or not. And thats just being picky per that genre, it’s not a concern for 99% of gamers including myself. I am a pedal to the metal racing game person so I’m good! Nintendo outdid themselves… I can’t believe I didn’t buy the Switch 2 Pro controller at launch with my Switch 2. I’ve been missing out. I’ve never been paid to review anything in my life, so this is a genuine review from a longtime gamer. It’s that good. Go get it.

I don't know how Nintendo keeps doing pro controllers this well, but this is somehow even better than the original Switch Pro Controller. Battery lasts forever, it's basically silent, AND now it has rear grip buttons and a headphone jack? Can't beat it.

I recently purchased the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, and it has been a great upgrade to my gaming setup. The controller feels amazing in the hand with a comfortable grip that works well for long play sessions. The buttons feel clean and responsive, the sticks have smooth movement, and the overall build quality gives it a premium feel. I also like how quickly it connects and how stable the connection stays during gameplay. The controller feels balanced and easy to hold, so games that need precision feel much easier to play. It has made a big difference for titles that rely on fast reactions or detailed control. The battery life has also been impressive and lasts much longer than I expected. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. It looks great, feels great, and performs even better. I would definitely recommend the Switch 2 Pro Controller to anyone looking to upgrade their gaming experience.

    The Most Comfortable Controller

The controller is light, soft, and smooth, making it extremely comfortable to hold. The joysticks are nearly silent and smooth as butter. The buttons are large and easy to reach and press. I've had this controller for two months and only had to charge it twice with an impressive 40 hour battery life. It can wake the system, has great gyro and rumble, and the included back paddles are so easy to remap for extra control in any game, which is saved per game and per user. 10/10 would recommend

This is probably the best controller ever made of all time as of right now. The sticks feel unreal, so smooth and accurate, just perfect. The HD Rumble 2 is unmatched with what it can do. 40+ hour battery life. Headphone Jack. The texture of the controller feels soooo good in the hand. The new Grip buttons work perfectly, and are easily customizable per each game from the quick menu, and the customization is saved per game even after you close the game. 10/10

Even better than the S1 pro controller! Feels great in the hand, nice texture to the plastic, LENGTHY battery life, HD rumble is pronounced, and adding the back buttons is a nice tough! Might not be worth the upgrade if you still have a S1 Pro Controller, but otherwise a must if you're a new Switch 2 owner.

Alright. So first off, I've neen gaming for 34 years. Used most everything from the classic NES pad and Zapper, to Playstation DualShock series, OG Xbox Duke and Controller S (not Series S, seriously what is wrong with Microsoft naming conventions these days), to Wiimote and Nunchuk, to... the Hey You, Pikachu microphone? Yeah, using a microphone as a controller was a wild idea LOL! Anyway, a good controller that sticks with you is one of two things... either its really out there and you never thought it would work, until it did... or, it just... FEELS right. Like... "this is how it should be." Ergonomic design, hand-eye coordination matching 1-1 to what you expect when you tell your body to input a command, all the inputs being everywhere they need to be and nowhere they don't need to be? THAT is what you are paying for here for when you spend nearly $100 of your hard earned cash on this controller. I got into a head-on collision with another cyclist while biking today, September 4, 2025, and I have a wrist and arm injury that makes even the slightest wrong move make my nerves light up. When I'm using this controller? NOTHING. I know that sounds totally nonsensical and sensational. Maybe its just anecdote. But as far as I'm concerned? This controller has the best ergonomics of any controller in the past 34 years. They cast some kind of wizardry, every other controller trying to use the classic D-pad for rolling your thumb and the grip paddles just feels somewhere between less than ideal and awful and I think that has colored perceptions. I previously thought the Sega Saturn redesigned controller D-pad would be immortalized as solving the classic D-pad's problems that could not be fixed by sticking to the classic form. This D-pad is smooth as silk and operates better than the redesigned Saturn D-pad. Thirty years, washed away just like that. And they eschewed grip paddles you see on controllers like the DualSense Edge- what passes now for a "premium" controller- for buttons that are completely flush with the grips. The N64 controller is practically unusable to me now, but I will never forget the Z button feel as a child... These buttons are like that Z button was reborn as a Gemini and stepped forward into the next century. This button layout style stopping feeling right to me soon after reaching adulthood and this controller was the cure. And the simultaneous motion control precision it allows without relying on twinsticks for aiming finally... FINALLY fulfills the dream that the engineers behind the DualShock 3 controller had when they tried to make games like Lair into PS3 system sellers. It fulfills the dream that Nintendo's engineers had when they made the Wiimote and some thought it would revolutionize gaming before the dedicated motion controls gimmick became a mostly endangered species. It looks like a regular controller and you get a level of aiming precision beyond Wii MotionPlus or Playstation Move while being wired. How? Because a 2-hander was the answer all along, dual wielding was not the answer and wireless only is too slow. The Joycon 2s are a huge blunder. No one should remember mouse mode amicably because this controller does what Joycon mouse mode is intended to do better by fulfilling its function while letting you control the game the way you expect a normal controller is supposed to work. And it erases the absolute awkwardness of dual wielding Joycons for aiming. This is currently the best you will find below PC keyboard and mouse. Joycon mouse mode fails to emulate keyboard and mouse like Virtual Boy failed to capture the imagination in the 90's. This controller proves that consoles don't need to move in a more PC-like direction as Sony and Microsoft are doing. Try this controller however you can... This console is an investment, make no mistake. But don't get into it unless you're ready to go the whole way. Otherwise, you're wasting your time, and time is money. Don't bother with buying a Switch 2 unless you also buy this controller. Don't bother with products trying to force the Joycons into being comfortable and feeling right. That is a Sisyphean task. If Nintendo had made this the default controller instead of the Joycons, and configured the entire console ecosystem and design around it instead of nearly mirror imaging the Switch 1, you wouldn't be seeing Switch 2s sitting on shelves right now. It would have been another Wii 2006-2007 situation where you probably won't see this thing in the wild after folks lined up for the midnight release for a whole year. $450 for this console with this controller would have been unstoppable. Nintendo executives messed up by giving people accessory sticker shock and therefore cradling this controller in millions less hands.

this is the most comfortable controller I have owned. I have owned pretty much every game system that has come out. I like this more than the switch one pro controller. something about the materials makes it a joy to hold. the sticks are almost unbelievably smooth. I've never felt a stick that had this little friction. the back gl and gr buttons are a welcome addition and you can configure them different for each game. I have been using them for run and jump on breath of the wild which leaves me open to move the camera while im running and jumping. the d pad is accurate and the buttons are satisfying. so far I have only had to charge it once since I got it. that was always the killer feature of the first switch pro controller. it blows stuff like the ps5 controller out of the water with its battery life. like it isn't even close looking forward to seeing how good the longevity of this controller is.

I picked up the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller for my new Switch 2, and after a few weeks of use, I can confidently say it’s absolutely worth it. The build quality feels premium the moment you hold it — solid weight, great grip texture, and buttons that feel responsive and sharp. Motion controls are more refined, and the upgraded haptics add a noticeable boost to immersion, especially in action games. Battery life is also excellent — i forgot to charge it for more than 2 weeks and it still works. Connectivity is instant, no lag, and the controller stays stable even when playing farther from the console. I’ve t PS5 dualsense but this one feels like the real “pro” experience. If you’re buying a Switch 2 or upgrading from the older Pro Controller, this is the controller you want. It’s not cheap, but the comfort, precision, and quality make it worth every dollar. Highly recommended.
