Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the exploration, planets, open world, and universe size in No Man’s Sky, frequently citing the vastness and enjoyment of exploring the game's many planets and universe. However, many find the gameplay repetitive and lacking in content, with some also criticizing the game's story and value for the price. The sheer scale of the game's universe is a major draw for many players, but this is often offset by concerns about repetitive gameplay mechanics.

No Man's Sky isn't a mass market game, it's only a shell of what was sold to us and is perfectly summed up by a comment I heard : "Miles wide, an inch deep". That said, if you know what you're getting into - mining, crafting, space exploration, survival, single player - then the game is amazing, just maybe try and get it for $20-40.

This game is not a campaign type game where you just keep getting missions and move onto the next. This game takes patience, hard work, learning how to find and extract resources. The is a kind of overall mission but not any real guidance. I love the game but I also like games that can allow you to explore more than just one area.

Fair graphics, unique idea but strongly repetitive. I've put in about 9 hours and am only on my third planet. A lot of time is spent harvesting resources just to recharge your ship to fly a mile to the next unknown location, which is mostly the same as the last.

The game is a great concept with stunning graphics. Playing the game the first few hours is a joy, flying to new planets and discovering new species. After a while, it gets rather repetitive with very little story line and no changes in gameplay as you advance.

The game is gorgeous at first, but just blends into itself over and over again as you trudge from system to system. The repetition becomes dull and sometimes downright enraging as you farm resources and juggle severe inventory restrictions.

Not the game we were promised for the last year but nonetheless a fun experience. Repetitive exploration and collection is pretty much the name of the game. I enjoy it but if your looking for in depth story and character building there is none of that here.

I love the idea of this game, an open world game that self creates. It is a very interesting concept and the only thing I don't like is that the beginning is so vague that I walked around for almost an hour trying to figure out anything. Then I ended up jumping to far so it took forever to figure out atlas passes and stones

It's a fun game. I stayed in my first star system for the majority of the 30-40 hours I spent playing No Man's Sky. If you like exploring and discovering, kinda like Minecraft (with no building/landscaping), you will probably enjoy the hours you spend in the game. Personally speaking, the "story" is unsatisfying and mostly pointless, but it does give you the crafting recipes for fueling your warpdrive, which lets you travel to other star systems, so you'll want to follow the storyline until you can fend for yourself. "Completing" the game (collecting all the milestones) is relatively simple, though if you do decide to stay in the same place, you'll have to grind out the warpdrive milestones. Unfortunately, there isn't really a way to return to your previous star systems, so if you do decide to leave, just be prepared to completely abandon it. All-in-all, I think the game deserves 5 stars, but the price is too high for what it is, and there were too many promises from Hello Games that simply weren't fulfilled, so I'm giving it a 4. Wait until they patch up the game more, and when the price drops to about half.

I enjoyed this game, but I knew what I was getting in to. This isn't so much a game as it is a game engine and an experience. There are no giant serpents, no other events. Watch a gameplay video before you buy. I enjoyed this game for a good 20-30 hours.

Although NMS is not classified as a "shooter", there is some of that throughout the game, which I was pleased to see. The graphics and movement and playing possibilities (huge universe) in the game are great! I like being able to claim discovery for planets, moons, flora and fauna. I enjoy interacting with "alien" species, but the interactions become somewhat predictable after a while. I wish that there were more levels of accomplishment than the basic "10" maximum score for each category. Even though it keeps track of your accomplishments, that maximum score of "10" is a downer. It is nice to be able to play the game at my own pace and there are frequent save opportunities. If you die, it is relatively easy to resurrect with all of your possessions prior to your demise. In short, it is fascinating and fun, but not for everyone if you are a fast-paced gamer. I like it a lot!

The game itself is an impressive step for a console game, it's huge and feels endless in terms of exploration. But other than exploring, the game is fairly repetitive. I still recommend trying it for that sense of wonder, but hold out for a price drop.

This is a game to play while you are catching up on podcasts or missed Netflix shows. It is really chill and something fun to do at the end of each day. I wish the game had a story to go along with it, but I knew what I was getting when I bought it. It can feel lonely at times, but it is fun to play after a long day.

It has its moments and can still be fun at times despite its repetition, but in its current state I feel it's more of a $30 game. That being said, the devs did just announce there will be many updates to come and they will all be free; no paid DLC.

This game starts off captivating. It sucks you in wide eyed and full of adventure. Then leaves you hanging after several hours of repetition. It takes a little while to realize that you will just be doing the same thing in a new place forever.

This game is interesting for the first 5 hours or so. It needs a lot more things to do. You basically do the same thing at every planet. The space travel was well done. Rent it first. If they add a lot more features it will be a good game.

The concept of this game is just so great, but once you play it for a day or two, it's the same thing over and over again. Having no interaction with other players online boggles my mind. Wait until it goes on sale or even a few years.

Mining game, beautiful colors, can provide hrs of entertainment if you're into these kind of games, no real plot just small tasks over and over w/ incredible views and interesting "animals" and other forms of planetary life. Great if you're into sci-fi and again only if you don't mind mining games.

This was purchased after the foundation update. They still have to add a lot to the game, but I got it on the cheap since everyone gave up on it and for the price i paid, plus additional updates in the future, not a bad investment.

When I saw the teaser at E3 a couple of years ago I was intrigued by the art style. I am not big into space games, but decided to pre order it. When it was finally released I did get some initial enjoyment from it, but with the lack of a story or very many NPCs to talk to, I quickly loss interest.
