Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the exploration, planets, open world, and universe size in No Man’s Sky, frequently citing the vastness and enjoyment of exploring the game's many planets and universe. However, many find the gameplay repetitive and lacking in content, with some also criticizing the game's story and value for the price. The sheer scale of the game's universe is a major draw for many players, but this is often offset by concerns about repetitive gameplay mechanics.

Not great, but better than you've heard

I missed out on a lot of the pre release hype for this game, but ended up pre-ordering at the last minute. Since then, the game has gotten a ton of bad press. I don't think it's as bad as the rap it gets. But it also isn't great, and the developer's communication on planned changes was terrible. They are working to make it better, but I wouldn't pay more than $15 knowing what I know now. For the first 10 hours or so, it's actually pretty good. And then everything starts to feel very familiar.

A disappointing shell of a space adventure

No Man's Sky is an extremely disappointing experience, full of busywork and half-hearted survival mechanics. After visiting just a few different planets, I stumbled upon similarity after similarity. Plants use the same skins over and over again, just changing their color to match the new planets randomized color scheme. Creatures combine random bits of heads, legs, and body shapes, but feel more comedic than unnatural. Every planet is the same thing -- land, harvest materials, manage your life support, tools, and fuel supply (this is extremely tedious in the early hours and tethers players to their ship, rather than feeling like a massive open-world game), and then find an outpost to sell materials because of the game's poor inventory management. You can buy storage upgrades, improve your ship, find blueprints, and trade with alien races who have absolutely no personality, but for a game about exploring a massive open-world galaxy, it actually feels confined, small, and extremely disappointing.

Entertaining for a while. Then gets boring fast. It has a good concept going, but it's just not that impressive after a while.

I tried to get into this game, but I just can't. Same boring repetitive game play planet after planet after boring planet. Everytime I play this game it honestly puts me to sleep. Mine this, scan that, learn this new alien word. Absolutely mind numbing. Save your money, don't make the same mistake I did. Turn back save yourselves. Maybe for 20 bucks it MIGHT be worth it, but even then it would be a stretch.

This game is so bland. Traveling through space is like waiting for paint to dry and your resources are limited in the beginning. Should’ve got my money back.

This game could have been so much more. The first 2-3 hours are some of the best in gaming. After that it's as boring as watching paint dry. It gets so repetitive. Fly to planet, mine minerals, leave planet, then do the same thing on the next planet. There's only 3 alien species in the game? The alien animals are also laughable. Such potential turned to the most boring $60 game I've ever encountered.....

Exactly what i expected, go to planets and gather resources to continue to the next planet. Some combat, but relaxing overall. Bit to repetitive for as large as it is.

As a fan of Arthur C. Clark, Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asimov hardcore scifi novels I find this game to fit in perfectly with accurate space exploration. Working with limited inventory, depleting resources and slow action I consider this game so real when playing. Patience is so important in this game, as it would be in space and that places it very far down the spectrum from common action games such as COD or AC. I now have the ability to play a game that is reconciled with some of my favorite scifi books and I feel I am writing my own story while playing. I really love this game.

Needs about 6months to a year to be great. - It has some fun and potential now, but it will do much better once some features that they are adding will be implemented.

If you enjoy structured linear storytelling this may not be the game for you. Lack of variety may prevent me from playing long term, but the exploration is enjoyable.

When I started playing No Man's Sky I enjoyed it. That lasted for roughly ten hours of playtime until I started to realize that I've already seen everything there is to be seen. Also, without spoiling the ending of the game I can tell you 100% it's not worth your time to see the journey to completion. If the game was $20 I would give it a better rating but for the price of $60 it lacks content.

this is a game for explorers. however, even though there is countless worlds to explore, you will find not a lot of difference in some worlds. They may look different, but mining stuff on each planet gets boring after a while because most of the stuff is the same material. I quit playing the game because of this. Storage is also a problem. I gave 2 stars because exploring is virtually endless.

This game is just average - it's kind of boring just walking around. Hopefully the new DLC and updates help fix it.
