Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the exploration, planets, open world, and universe size in No Man’s Sky, frequently citing the vastness and enjoyment of exploring the game's many planets and universe. However, many find the gameplay repetitive and lacking in content, with some also criticizing the game's story and value for the price. The sheer scale of the game's universe is a major draw for many players, but this is often offset by concerns about repetitive gameplay mechanics.

    Don't Get Your Hopes Up..

While No Man's Sky, technologically speaking, is a big leap forward in gaming in regards to procedurally generated worlds/creatures, that's really all it has going for it. I initially tried not to spoil myself too much on the game before buying it, but as soon as I had it, and found the grind for inventory space, materials, etc becoming more tedious, it became draining. The subsequent flood of negative reviews, lists of bugs, and crashes that I experienced during play, further swayed me from enjoying it, especially knowing what the 'ending' held for me. The lack luster 'story' if you can call it that, is, as 'AngryJoe' said, "As vast as an ocean, but deep as a puddle". The promises and features that we had been told were going to be in the game, are all but lacking entirely in most cases. Aside from the world generation, and the sound track, I'm honestly finding it harder to locate any really redeemable aspects of the game. Don't get me wrong, it's still 'fun' to explore new worlds, and it's a good time sink, but the hopeful veneer I had when it was first announced has since been stripped away, so I've found myself less and less likely to play it, compared to when I first got it. If you're looking for a game you can just zone into though and explore, sure, get No Man's Sky. But if you're looking for the game that Hello Games and Sean Murray so proudly (and arrogantly) touted in front of the world.. You'll be sadly disappointed. Not worth $60 at this rate.

Huge game, It's fun to explore the planets. Progression feels good, but it gets a bit monotonous with very little to do.

I got an early copy. So far I've put around 4 hours into it. Already had a few dog fights, been in acid rain thunder storms, attack by giant AT-ST Walker like robots, and traveled to 10 planets, so all have been hostile lol. I have a feeling I'll be putting many hours into this game.

No Man's Sky starts out very strong. A zoom in to your planet, starting at the edge of the universe, to give you a scale of the incredible size of it all. And it really does fill you with awe. You explore your planet, repair your ship and suit, and head out on adventure. Then the monotony sets in. Every single planet, from this point on, is nothing but a speed bump to be bested. The game will not surprise you. You will gather the necessary elements to build a warp cell to warp to the next galaxy to gather the elements to build a warp cell to warp to the next galaxy to gather the necessary elements... You see where I'm going with this? This all wouldn't be so bad if exploring was interesting. But Hello Games created a universe with 18 quintillion planets with *nothing to do.* Every animal is the same combination of 5 very earth-looking pieces. No tree in 500 gazillion has grown over 10 feet tall. There are no civilizations, despite there being a few intelligent life forms (from one of three species) in every solar system. These species have penetrated every corner of the universe, they have set up space stations for trading, and they have research labs on every single planet, yet they have zero civilizations. There are more disappointing features, but it's making me mad to type this out. Don't buy the game. How someone with such little imagination could promise the inverse, I'll never know.

Fair warning, this game is about exploring the universe in a single player setting, and there is NO multiplayer aspects of this game other than the uploading of discoveries. The game is very enjoyable, if you like exploring environments in games or just are looking for something relaxing to do, this is a great experience. You can easily listen to some music or a podcast and not worry about your game too much. recommended to anyone looking for a game like this but if you were looking for a co-op space exploration game with friends, then look elsewhere, possibly elite dangerous on the pc.

I bought into the hype and read some reviews before purchasing this game. However after investing nearly 32 hours into the game, I would not recommend this game to individuals who want a story, or lore, or plot, or multiplayer. However, I would recommend this game to those who would want exploration and adventuring. No Man's Sky caters to those two categories and nothing else.

There's no denying that No Man's Sky is a unique game that does unique things. Being able to explore space in just about any way you want is a promise mostly delivered, however you are still entrapped in its survival aspects, finding yourself doing much of the same from planet to planet. That being said, it is quite the relaxing time simply exploring the quietness of what space has to offer, offering an almost zen-like quality to the game, and being able to craft and share unique stories from your guaranteed unique experiences is something that most games can't offer.

I liked this game more before I heard of all the features it could have/should have had. 18 quintiliion planets, countless star systems. Only there are a limited number of planet-types, no gravity difference between them. There is a lot of grinding if you are into that. Best way to play is at your own pace. It is more of a hobby then a game at that point. This game turned out to be one of the biggest let-downs of the year mostly due to the hype surrounding it. Just another example of the "NO MORE PRE-ORDERS" movement. I will not be pre-ordering another game after this.

Its scale and sense of isolation is special. The procedural nature imbues everything in the game with a sense of life that other, better-crafted games can’t match. And it nails the emergent storytelling that I want from a survival game.

I had heard quite a lot of negative things about this game. But after some of the FREE DLC they have provided this game is so awesome. If you are into Sci-Fi and like your space games in 4K then you can't go wrong with "No Man's Sky".

Initially, I loved this game. However, the the pure awe of the game quickly turns into a boring set of tasks to complete... new planet, mine resources, see a few new animals that either like you or attack you, see a few new plants that look familiar, get some stuff to sell, then on to the next planet.... that's hard to justify $60. It is a great game if you want a casual, mind-numbing experience after a hard day at work. For that, I give it 3 stars.

I knew the game didn't live up to the pre-release hype, but I figured I'd give it a shot. Really kind of wished I'd have listened to the negative reviews now. It's not that it's terrible, but you just have no idea what you're doing and it is sooooo sloooooooow. I suppose if you play ESO or something and wish you could farm/mine all the time, this would be more up your alley. I spent 6 hours getting nowhere and haven't played it again since...

Game comes with very little instruction, so you spend a lot of time learning what to do and how to do it. Fun if you like science and exploration, and have time to kill walking, flying or warping when not actively exploring. I enjoy the game, but can see why I see a lot of used versions in like new condition for sale. Much hyped in gamer magazine articles, I was a little disappointed even though I still enjoy it. Give it a try.

A lot was promised with this game, most of it was undelivered upon release. It claims an infinite universe to explore. This is true, but what good is it when most of the planets look almost identical? Most of the creatures also look very similar. All there is to do is upgrade your ship and your suit essentially. You can attack other ships, but the rewards really aren't worth it. Ultimately its a massive universe, but there is so little to do in it that its difficult to find any reason to keep exploring it after the first 5 or so planets. I played pretty heavily for the first three days after release, but I haven't picked it up since. I doubt I ever will. Consider this a game of unfulfilled promises. You'd almost think Peter Molyneux was behind it.

In the past games came out that were technical marvels and we celebrated them on the merits of their achievement playing many hours in wonder. No Mans Sky is such a game but we expect more now. You will enjoy the game if you can appreciate this distinction. However if you're looking for a story, fast paced action, or fancy loot drops this is not your game. Amazing achievement but with so many great games it might not be worth your time.

I bought and enjoyed this game. I know there are many people upset about the differences between the original trailers and the released game. I made sure to wait for reviews and coverage of the game once it was released. Because of that, I knew exactly what this game was and still decided to buy it. I was definitely not let down. I enjoyed finding new planets and mining them for minerals, and also enjoyed searching for drop pods to upgrade by exosuit inventory. Make sure to check out game footage to make sure this is the type of game for you.

This game has been hyped up a lot leading up to last week's release, and it has lived up to almost none of it. Much of the touted functionality, such as planets with distinct physics that affect the generated plants and animals, warring factions, and meaningful interaction have all been lost or were never implemented. Each planet is different, but your goals are the same: find upgrades, mine stuff, go to the center of the universe. The NPC factions have their own personality and language, but aside from giving you stuff for guessing the right answer to a question they have little to normal impact on your adventure. Plant life looks almost identical from planet to planet, with minor variation. Animal life is slightly (but not much) more diverse. Perhaps most infuriating is that there are no custom waypoints and local maps - so if you need some more resources to repair that new ship you found, you better be able to find them nearby - because you'll have a nearly impossible time finding it again if you fly off. That said, there's a great exploration game in there somewhere. The developer has promised a lot of free updates and DLC, but considering how they've failed to live up to their pre-release promises I wouldn't hold my breath.
