2020 was our first year with an artificial tree, and I was really resistant to the idea. If COVID hadn't made the annual trip to the crowded tree farm a risky activity in our area, I never would have made the leap. I really didn't want anything that looked fake, but did not have the budget to drop hundreds on a high-end tree. This seemed to be a relatively reasonable compromise, and it didn't cost much more than what a real tree that only lasts one season costs these days. I figured that if I hated it, we could chuck it and start over next year.
It took a lot of fluffing to make it look like the photo (literally 2 to 3 hours - just start a movie in the background and be patient). But it did eventually get pretty close. I hadn't expected shedding, but there were quite a few needles to vacuum up after the fluffing process, but it did stop shedding after that. The top wasn't quite sturdy enough to hold up the star, but I threaded it through a few branches and it hasn't fallen out yet (fingers crossed). Now that it is up and decorated, it passes for real from across the room. I like it more than I had expected, and will actually reuse it next year.
