Worth the investment
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking to replace my firestick and started looking at different options. After reading reviews Nvidia Shield kept coming up as everyone's top choice and after a month of using it I concur Its faster than a firestick while on the home screen and displays a sharper picture, Which I didn't think possible. ( I have it hooked up to an LG 4k 70in) Like the firestick it uses Android however unlike the firestick it is pure Android and thus doesn't come with the bloat ware that Amazon puts on. What this also means is that you can log into your Google account and download your apps to use on the Shield. Sadly not everything is compatible but it does have Chromecast built in so you can always do it. Other great perks is GeForce now which allows you to play pc games (steam supported ones of course) directly on your tv or by connecting it to your pc and stream from your pc to tv. The remote is great and if you download their app you'll always be able to find when...it grows feet and walks away from where it last was lol. Overall I'm very pleased and as mentioned earlier it is priced higher than other Android tv setups but worth the investment.

My favorite of the streaming devices
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second shield tv, the first one was a 2017 pro model. This surpasses it in every way. One of my primary reasons for getting it was the upscaling and for Dolby Vision support. When paired with an DV capable OLED screen the picture was beautiful. Unfortunately due to changes made by Google, there are "ad" banners that take up a significant portion of the homescreen. However you can pretty easily install a custom launcher (basically the user interface) to remove these and also add functionality such as the ability to launch applications at boot. In my situation I have setup both shield devices to auto-launch our live tv streaming service when powered on so it behaves very similar to a traditional cable box. I am also impressed with the performance of the wifi, in the past I had my 2017 version hard wired. But in an effort to clean up the cabling/presentation of our family room, I removed the cable and have had no issues at all streaming UHD content in both HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision. Although I probably will eventually run an ethernet connection to it if I ever decide to game stream with it again. It is definitely pricier than a lot of other streaming devices out there, but the ability to customize it to my needs, the amount of video formats it supports, and the upscaling capabilities were worth the extra investment. I have not used it for streaming games so I can't really speak to that experience, although I have done so with good results from my 2017 model. I also cannot comment too much on the remote since I use the remote for my tv to control it. I was very happy with the purchasing experience, although it was a little bit more difficult to locate it in the store than I had imagined it would be. My first trip through the TV section (which is ultimately where it was located) I didn't see it. I went through smart home section and even the computer section before finally finding it (along with the other streaming devices) on a small shelf near the television wall mounts. A small sign on top of the shelf indicating streaming devices could be helpful for future shoppers.

No competition
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded from the 2017 shield, sold to a friend. The shield is still the most powerful and capable tv media player. Its also a gaming console if you have fast internet. For $5 a month to nvidia for geforce now founders level, I can play any of my steam games on my shield in the living room. RTX turned on, amazing graphics, all streamed to me. Bluetooth controller required. A bluetooth xbox one controller is what I use. The controller can be paired to your TV and soundbar/receiver so your entire setup turns on and off together. No more messing around with multiple remotes. With a USB tv tuner and an antenna in the attic, the shield's included live channels app gives you an amazing TV guide that is very clean and detailed. Pause live TV. Or attach a 50gb+ drive to record tv. This new unit has AI upscaling. It brings out extra detail of video less than 4k. You can't go wrong with an Nvidia Shield. They are powerful little streaming units.

Well worth the price tag.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best streaming device to date. Please note due to being an android device it will not play Disney's channel. In order to get full Dolby Vision you must have a TV capable of Dolby Vision. Atmos sound is supported as long as you have an AV receiver or whatever your sound system consist of again capable of supporting Atmos. The remote and ultra small instruction guide are a joke Picture in 4K is far better than the roku ultra with Dolby Vision/ Atmos. I own both and feel internet connectivity /processor speed as well as picture superior to the Roku. Layout of apps is problematic for me at least because I love the Roku precise app layout vs. this unit's. Maybe its be. Bottom line unless you need or want Disney and you are willing to pay $100.00 for Roku ..step up to a far superior streaming device with Nvidia

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Streaming Powerhouse That Truly Lives
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Pro on June 27, 2025, and I can confidently say it’s one of the smartest tech decisions I’ve made all year. Whether you’re a hardcore streamer, gamer, or just someone who wants blazing-fast performance in a sleek, compact device — this little box delivers big. From the moment I plugged it in, the difference was night and day. Apps launch instantly, 4K content looks stunning with the AI-enhanced upscaling, and Dolby Vision and Atmos make every movie feel like a theater experience. It also supports Google Assistant, so controlling my smart home and finding shows is seamless and hands-free. But what really blew me away? GeForce NOW. I’m playing AAA games on my TV without needing a console — with minimal lag. That’s next-level stuff. If you’re tired of laggy Fire Sticks or sluggish interfaces, this is your answer. The Shield TV Pro isn’t just a streaming device — it’s a full entertainment hub. Highly recommend to anyone who values speed, quality, and future-ready performance.

Best Media Player by Far
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second Shield, my first being the previous generation. Both function almost identical. The newer generation has a few minor upgrades and a better remote. This device is so good, there really isn't much that needs upgraded. It handles every file type thrown at it from your personal library, setting up network storage is a breeze, the interface is perfect, all of the apps work flawlessly without ever freezing up. There's just nothing on the market that even touches what the Shield can do. Even the gaming is far more advanced than one would expect and I don't even use it for that. Don't hesitate to get one of these and don't even bother with any of the Amazon knock of media players because they will only disappoint you.

Impressive Device. Kinda Pricey.
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an amzing device. It is very fast, provides a great picture, no lag when streaming an you can play games on it. You can also do a lot of other things that are beyond my pay grade or interests. I like the Android TV ecosystem. It is simple and easy to understand. I have issues with this sometimes, though. They are usually not the fault of the Shield, but with tech comes a learning curve. I have had issues with sound alternating between TV/Receiver/and Bluetooth. Come to find out the ix was in my LG TV's sound settings and not the NVIDIA Shield. Still, things sometimes seem to switch on thier own so - like I say, I am still learning. I love this thing. I didnt truly need it. But now that I have it, I am glad I do. I heard these things last a long time. I hope so, cuz they are pricey!

Best streaming box and more
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very good device for all your streaming needs. I use Plex, an IPTV service, all you regular "streaming" apps, and the shield handles them all perfectly without any stutter. The air upscaling is a nice feature that you get used to quick, until you watch the same content on another device and realize what a difference it makes. A bit pricey but you pay a premium for the quality hardware.

Best Android Streaming Device
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using the Nvidia Shield since February 2022 and I haven't had any issues with it. It runs very smoothly without any problems. I have used several Android devices, but most had issues, unlike the Nvidia Shield. This is perhaps the best TV streaming box if you are a power user, but it may not be the best for everyone. This device can handle 4K over Plex without any hiccups. It is the only player I have tried that can keep up with an extensive Plex library. The interface is excellent, and having a powerful CPU inside a streaming box like this makes it very fast and smooth. It is much faster than my Samsung QLED TV, which wasn't slow initially. Additionally, switching between apps is fast too. You will love this device if you run apps like Kodi, which are somewhat heavy on memory and CPU usage. App support is excellent since Shield runs on Android. You can access the Play Store, which has Google TV-specific apps, but you can also sideload any Android app if you wish. The AI enhancement is probably the best upscaling you can find on any player. I have not tried them all, but after going through a few other streaming boxes and a couple of Blu-ray players, I can say that this is the best upscaling I have encountered. Since it's an Android TV, the voice recognition uses Google, and it works better than any other voice assistant.

Your Best Option for Streaming and Gaming
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have Roku Ultra and Amazon boxes but I have to say the interface is best with the Roku but the picture improvements with the AI from the Shield make it stand out from the others especially with HD material. The AI upscaling does not upgrade 4K images. I had some issues in getting the remote to work properly with my processor, so I stopped trying. The added bonus is the gaming and it work it for that aspect alone. Audio and picture are good and every bit as good as the Roku Ultra in terms of quality and it passes Dolby Vision and Atmos sound flawlessly. I had problems with Dolby Vision on the Amazon device and it sound is not as good. The only negative is the price.

Solid product, but a bit rough around the edges
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I'm happy with the Shield Pro. It outputs 4k, HDR, and the lossless DTS-MA and TrueHD audio streams, which were my main criteria. I will say, though, the UI is a bit clunky. The menus are redundant & confusing. Even after more than a year of using it quite frequently, I still have to test different menu options to find what I want. And when I select the option to permanently delete a file from the attached hard drive where I keep my movies, it doesn't work. Ever.

Wow for 2019 tech! Better than other streamers
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow. This device does an amazing job upscaling sports on my streaming service. Not a fan of all the crap they put in the home screen that you can't disable, but for watchin 1080p and 720p content, this things is amazing. It also does much better than any of the other streaming devices keeping audio synced with the video.

Stellar Device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit is faster than my 2015 model, it's AI enhancement is the future of how "Smart" Tv boxes will need to got. The fact that YouTube has been around for so long means there are many different resolutions and quality out there and with this enhancement trying to make things look better that they originally are is groundbreaking. Imagine Tune TVs, that quality was so bad but the content was great. This literally is taking this generations bad quality and trying to step it up, making it more watchable for years to come. And it's being added to more apps on the device so maybe soon you could step down your Netflix package from 4k to HD since on device AI can step it up to 4k.. who knows. Also the controller is way better than the 2015 and 2017 model, and has a find my remote feature. All the rest of the great features from the last devices are here including streaming and playing steam games, or your gforce games. The UI is the same and as if said, it's smoother than my 2015 model. This is worth a purchase of you have been wanting to add to another room. I've got three now and I'm totally buying the cheaper 150$ (circle) shield for the in-laws and parents for Christmas. Since I think it's a great upgrade from a Chromecast.

decent
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this is the best streaming device I've found, but it is still frustratingly lacking. "Play Next" regularly drops services for no apparent reason, and for example: of 5 streaming services (Plex, Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO) I'm subscribed to and watch on this device, only 1 is showing at the moment. Ads can't be removed from the homescreen, and overall snappiness of performance is still disappointing in this price range. That said, performance of the Pro is noticeably better than Standard.

Shield pro price poor but great streamer
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is mostly about cost of item. The shield is a very good streaming box. I liked it very much. However at the price of $200 it is astronomical. It's a standard price no matter where it's purchased. Drop the price Shield. Went with the fire cube. Found it to be comparable to shield unless your a gamer. Long story short shield is a great product and would have kept it if price was affordable. I purchased the pro edition. If price is lowered I will most likely buy it again. Plus. Lots of memory. Great processor Extra storage Fast Lite up remote Google Neg No nute on remote Price not affordable

The Shield Pro is still excellent in 2025
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Nvidia Shield Pro is a serious problem-solver for continuing to make use of aging "smart TVs" that aren't working well anymore. In my case, I bought this for a five year old smart TV that got buggier and slower to the point of almost being unusable. Luckily, the TV allows for abandoning the smart features and booting off HDMI, which allows the Shield Pro to seamlessly integrate as the 'smart' system for the TV. So, it's helping to prevent waste, which is great. The Shield Pro is nice and snappy. It's fast, it loads fast, it has solid settings. The remote is super easy to use. It's a game-changer. But it has some issues ... The NetFlix button is constantly being accidentally tapped, even though I'm not a subscriber. Worse, the Netflix button isn't customizable via the settings -- you can't disable it. Honestly, I want to be able to disable it without having to take in a third party app. Yep, there is a third party app you can download to do it, but it apparently now costs money. No thanks. Second big note is that Disney+ is buggy as can be on the Shield Pro. Okay, Disney+ is buggy on all platforms, but it keeps slipping into fast forwarding at random, the audio is super glitchy, and it's because the Shield isn't handling Disney's inability to provide data fast enough. The Shield doesn't allow you to increase the buffer duration/size for streaming. I'm on a gig connection (up/down), and it's definitely not our connection. So, it's odd that Nvidia doesn't do better error correction, and doesn't allow for more buffering is a little odd. Overall, I'm thrilled with the Shield Pro -- it's solved so many problems. But the Netflix button not being programmable in the settings, the lack of a buffer expansion, and the fact that Disney+ is allowed to be buggy as can be without any checking or feedback are flaws I can't overlook. I would buy this device again, I would recommend it to friends and family, and I would -especially- recommend it to anyone with an aging SmartTV they want to get more mileage out of before tossing it. It works seamlessly with our Samsung 58" 4K smart TV that's now ~5 years old. It's like having an all new TV thanks to the Shield.
