I recently became so fed up with Spectrum's cable TV constantly crapping out that I dropped them. I went with Hulu + Live TV and originally bought a Roku Ultra to support it. I also have an XBOX series X but both devices yielded results that were OK, but very jittery. I am an IT consultant and my home network is in perfect working order.
Instead of blaming Hulu, I returned the Roku and bought the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro and will never look back. The quality is just stunning with the AI Upscaling.
The install and setup took a total of five minutes. I am so thankful for this device (and Hulu) for helping me shed my cable TV oppressors!!!!

If you are sleeping on this device, don't any longer. Yes it may require a few more reboots than Roku or AppleTV, but for audiophiles and videophiles, this is the superior device. It can output true Bitstream audio formats, as well as Dolby Vision. The Roku has Bitstream but mixes in their compression algorithm. AppleTV is PCM only. Picture quality with the Shield is lightyears above Roku and AppleTV. Plus once you learn to use Plex and Kodi, you will never go back.

I use this 4K as my primary streaming viewing device connected to my Samsung KS8000 65" TV. I am able to stream 4K HDR content with Dolby Atmos/TrueHD without any hiccups using the built in AC wifi to my PLEX server. The AI upscaling works great as well and everything works pretty fast. Highly recommended!

The king of streamers!
This box does it all! And does it quickly!
The quality of this device is high. It's well made, works and functions well, and looks pretty good too.
This device is worth the price of admission with it's ai upscaling feature, the addition of usb ports to play your own media, and the voice control remote.
The game streaming with nvidia is phenomenal on the device. All you need is fast internet and it's a gaming console with ge force now!
I really love this device, we use it daily around our house. We love it, the kids love it. Very user friendly. You can get all your favorite streaming apps off the play store. If you have movies or shows on a usb drive, or pictures this will let you view them with ease.
The remote is awesome, I like that it lights up in the dark when it's picked up, nice touch. I love it's voice search feature, works really well.
This is a five star product from nvidia and worth it's price. This is the king of streaming devices.

If you are serious about streaming and a cord cutter this device is your best friend. Small but powerful and you can connect any size hard drive if you desire. The memory and onboard storage is the best out there. Nvidia provides regular updates and support as needed. You can also use this device for gaming if you choose with crazy numbers of titles to choose from. You can control the device with Alexa and Google if you choose. You can also stream your audio to the device and it will play your music. The device comes with awesome codecs so your sound will be great. It supports atmos. All around great device to have.

Great streaming device! I waited for so long to get this because of the high price but it's worth it. Yeah it's old but still better than the new streaming devices out there with the firecube a close 2nd. I had the 2017 but opted for this because of the Dolby Vision and Ai Upscale. Now the upscale is a little overrated but better if you had a super large TV, sound is great, picture quality is great. It makes a low end 4k TV look great in other words. If you can afford it just get this and not the tube.

I love this device so far. It is the first one I have had that controls everything with one button push on one remote. It has yet to get confused. I saw a definite improvement in both video and sound quality. It is a bit spendy vs others, but if you are fussy about video and sound quality and want to get the most out of your theatre, I would strongly suggest this.

I purchased this device after having owned 2 generations of Apple TV, 2 different Roku devices, and several generations of Amazon FireSticks. This was the most I have spent on a device like this short of buying a mini-PC. So far, it has been worth every penny. The device has been fast and responsive. Coming from using FireSticks primarily, I did spend a little time getting to some of the settings I was used to manipulating on the FireStick like turning the TV on and off with the NVidia remote. It’s integration with apps like Netflix and Plex are excellent.
As of this review, I must warn you that if you are a subscriber of AT&TTV, they do not readily offer their app to this device - I assume that is because they want you to subscribe and use their own flavor of Android TV. I plan to slowly move over to these devices as the rest of my family gets used to the interface and I catch them on sale.
Bottom Line - it doesn’t get any better than this, especially if you’re running 4K with high end sound.

I previously used the regular SHIELD TV (the one that looks like a tube). It was alright, but wasn't reliable when direct playing ripped Ultra HD Blu-rays via Plex and was occasionally sluggish with general usage. I decided to get this Pro model to replace it and wow, I was missing out. The Pro model is much more responsive. My ripped Ultra HD Blu-rays play with ease and there's never any sort of delay. Having AI upscaling with 60FPS content is nice too.
I would like to say that the regular SHIELD TV is good for basic tasks like casting or streaming video, but honestly, I think you might as well spend the extra $50 for the Pro model to have a more responsive experience. I'm either selling my regular SHIELD TV or relegating it to the family room for casual usage.

If your ecosystem is already tied up in Android, this streamer can't be beat. Even if you're in a different ecosystem, the advantages of this streamer poise a strong argument for adoption even if you might be inclined to use a different streamer. From running apps while barely breaking a sweat, to having the ability to run as a DVR system using Live Channels, the Shield is also one of the most-supported devices in the world. Nvidia has quite the track record of updating even the oldest Shield TV with the latest version of Android. This edition supports Dolby Vision natively and properly switches color space on 4K TV's better than most other streamers. I love the flexibility it offers and ease-of-use. Just about every app you can imagine is available along with games and support for Nvidia's "GeForce Now" streaming game service.

Hands down the BEST streaming box for 4K. Never has issues with buffering or general processing limitations. The AI up scaling makes a great deal of difference and the picture quality is superb! Way better controller - no more digging in couch cushions trying to find my Shield remote.

Nvidia shield, had one for over 10 years now, this is one for the basement. Little bit newer version basically just as good as the other one! Streams better than any streaming box I've ever owned before. Highly recommended! Worth every penny!

Ive had this Shield for over 2 years and I can say without a doubt it is the best streaming device I've ever had. I've been through so many version of Roku and Chromecast, nothing beats this. Plex was my aim for this and it's been perfect. Able to stream 4K Dolby Vision and passthrough all the audio.
Awesome

It a little getting use to, but I enjoy the remote and customization that can be done to the buttons. It does 4K content very well, but can be a little glitchy ever so often. For the speed of the interface and ease of use I would recommended to someone who is looking for an Apple TV alternative or really enjoys the android interface that it provides.

Fantastic device that lets you run any and all android based applications for streaming content both online and locally connected. You can run this as a Plex server as well as use all major streaming services. It goes without saying that with the Nvidia hardware inside it runs extremely well.
One feature I didn't expect to be so mind blowing was the AI upscaling. I watch a lot of 720P and 1080P content on my 4K display and the AI upscaling to 4K is actually fantastic, especially for anime. The AI upscaling works with any content either locally or streamed. I've been able to watch a lot of anime via Crunchyroll upscaled to 4K and it is an absolute game changer.

Overall: Good.
Audio:
Decent USB DAC support with content bitrate matching capabilities. You can connect external DAC for audiophile setup. But it may be missing some apps like USB Audio Player Pro which is a let down. Hopefully the app becomes available on this.
HDMI audio passthrough is supported.
Video:
No HDR10+ but decent support for 4K HDR10. I don't have a Dolby Vision supported displays at hand, so didn't test it but looks like it supports it.
If you are connecting displays/TVs that do not support HDR, you may need to turn off HDR in settings.
Tip: The handshake between the NVidia Shield and display can make display blink and NVidia crashes or freezes.
Interface:
The software and apps is great thanks to Android. But does not elevate the experience to Google TV streamer level. Missing features like searching for titles across apps is still not available on this which I like a lot on Google TV streamer. Hopefully future updates will get it but not holding my breath for it.

Almost two years into owning the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Pro, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase! One standout feature for me is using my phone as a remote control. I believe this streaming/gaming device to be the best in its class, while remaining affordable. This thing is a must have!

This thing is great the scaling can really good ,but sometimes ok. You get full speed ports on this so real usb 3.0 and real gigabit Ethernet which is excellent. They remote lights up which is a feature I sorely miss on modern devices. It also allow you to find the remote with the app which you will need to do as it is hard to find being matte black. The android apps are not always better than the roku's ,but you can get them or chrome cast from your phone. Also, if you are not a plex user I would choose this for plex support as I found it ok at best personally. Also, the old game exclusively for this device no longer work so... This is expensive ,but nvidia has been supporting these for year so I am not to worried. Also, if you buy the controller you can mirror the roku head jack feature. You can also just use bluetooth headphones which is not possible with a roku.

I've been using the Shield now for a few weeks. So foar it has worked great with no issues. Roku and ChromeCast generally have a easier to use interface, but you can do so much more with it. Makes for a great gaming console or a Plex server if you're willing to jump through the hoops and buy an external hard drive. My Shield is hardwired to my internet so i cant speak to its wifi capabilities. Has Dolby Vision and HDR but so does Roku. Great device but if you dont plan on gaming or setting up a plex server, i would recommend stick to a Roku or ChromeCast and save yourself a few dollars. I own all 3 devices and the competitors are far easier to use right out of the box of you're not a tech savvy person.
