I researched for months the nvidia shield features and it’s price tag. I was hesitant because I was used to firestick and did not want to spend the money . It does not disappoint! Right out of the box the device was up and running within minutes. The device is a major upgrade from a firestick in every aspect. Handles multiple APKs flawlessly. Ai upscaling is very cool. 16 gigs for apps is plenty with the ability to expand with usb. You will not regret. I ordered a remote cover from Amazon and shield game controller and shield stand from nvidia directly as Best Buy did not carry it.

100% happy with Nvidia Shield. Only minor fault is the picture if item looks like it is on a stand, (I think previous model came with a stand.) Because of lack of room, I can't lay it flat, I found a stand online and it works perfectly.

Currently own the 1st, 2nd, and now 3rd generation of the Shied and they have all functioned well. Chose shield over Roku and other flagship streaming devices from the get go due to the extensive file support, especially the support for lossless audio files and codecs. This latest Shield was purchased for the upscaling feature and the improved remote. When set at LOW or Medium, the upscaling makes a noticeable improvement in sharpness when watching 720P and 1080i/P content. The new remote is light years better than the previous Shield remotes.

This is my second one. My first got hit by lightning. I use it primarily as a streaming device. This is the best product on the market for streaming that I have come across. I have used many firesticks and fire tv's and while those devices work for the most part this out performs and just work so much better. My first one I got 6+ years out of so it worth it.

The Nvidia Shield TV has been my goto stream box since I took the plunge with the Pro 2017. The Pro 2019 eclipses that box by leaps and bounds. The 4K AI upscaling is AMAZING. I have been going back to some of my favorite flicks just to see them upscaled by this amazing little streamer. The new remote is phenomenal, though the Netflix button can be a pain at times. Upgrading to the Nvidia Shield TV 2019 with 4k AI upscaling has saved me the expense of upgrading my TV, because I am finally seeing true 4k on the TV I bought years ago. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I picked up an Nvidia Shield TV about a month ago and it’s been rock solid so far. Mostly been using it for IPTV and it handles streams flawlessly. smooth playback, no lag. It’s an older device but doesn’t feel outdated at all. I haven’t dived into emulation yet, but that’s next on my list and I’ve heard it’s great for that too. Overall, super happy with it.

I purchased this to replace both a Roku Ultra and Steam Link and it exceeds the performance of both.
The ultimate reason I bought a SHIELD was to replace my Steam Link. My biggest grievance with the Steam Link was small glitches, hangups, and stutters in sound and video quality that can really take away from the immersion and enjoyment of playing a game on the big screen. The SHIELD, from 80+ hours of experience now, has had far fewer (if any) of the same issues as the Link. Games come in much more clearly and the sound without weird drops, clicks, and shakiness. This is with both devices plugged into the same wall adapter.
It took my a few hours to figure out how to get the SHIELD talking with my computer. I had to update my graphics drivers (GTX970) and also update the drivers on my Xbox one controller by plugging it into my computer and using a Microsoft program to update the controller. Once I did this, it was pretty smooth sailing, but took some googling and research to find why things weren't talking at first.
The image AI is good, sometimes too noticeable on super low resolution movies. We just watched Halloweentown on Disney+ and the AI was "sharpening" the image too much to the point it looked oddly distorted. Turning it off was easy enough, and I do like the AI in most applications and won't complain, it's a good feature.
It's a good replacement for our top end Roku. Easy to use. I turn off all the recommendations that pop up on the home-screen to keep it minimal and usable. When you install and log into a new app, the SHIELD pulls recommendations and whatnot from that app (like NFlix and Hulu) and floods the homepage with shows you can continue watching from where you left off and gives you options of other things to watch. I just don't like all the clutter.
Also, you can get HBO max on this. My wife subscribed to HBO max only to find out that Roku and HBO are fighting over the profit models of their businesses and you cant get the HBO app on Roku (as of oct 2020). She was delighted to find that she can watch some of her favorite shows now straight from the SHIELD, just another small win for this devices.
If you just want a high quality video streaming device, I would say get a high end Roku. But if you are looking to use it for Gamestream, plex server, or more techy applications in addition to a high quality video device, then pull the trigger. I'm glad I did.

I'm using the Shield TV for steaming although it is a good game platform. Several free games are included. AI guided upscaling of 1080 sources makes them close to 4k quality. The Shield TV has a demo mode so you can really see the improvement. At this time the android TV platform like the Shield is one of the few to have HBO MAX. Remote has a backlight for viewing in dim light. An addon app allows reprograming the prominent Netflix button to some other function or even no function at all. It's a little pricey but if you spend a lot of time streaming it is worth it.

I have 2 of the previous generation Nvidia Shields, and I'm so happy with the upgrade. The upscaling works excellent, and the new remote is a vast improvement over the older one. My only complaint is that the volume buttons are in a row with other buttons and it makes it impossible to change the volume without looking at the remote to make sure you're pressing the right button. Even though the backlighting works great, it would be nice to have a tactile difference for the volume. But aside from that small complaint, the Nvidia Shield is still the best streaming box out there and worth the price.

I came from using a FireTV Cube. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the device. It's very fast and responsive. However, it's pretty expensive. I think it's only really worth it if you're going to use all the features, including game streaming. Speaking of game streaming, it works surprisingly really well - both with the remote service and to local PC. If I didn't use the game streaming, I would have a hard time recommending it over the FireTV Cube. The Cube streams very well and considerably cheaper.

I was reluctant to buy the NVIDA Sheild because of the price. I'm so glad I did. After going through many Firesticks that underperformed, I decided to give the NHIDA Sheild a try. It out performs the firestick and I love how it can be setup to up scale content up to 4k quality. I've purchase 3 in last 2 months so and far I'm very please with it.
Wow, upscaling and speed makes it worth the price.

There is a tremendous difference with upscaling, both sound and picture is amazing. The speed is also lightening fast. If you are on the fence, make the plunge.

I got this to replace my dead 2015 Pro model and it works as good as that version with the added benefit of better audio support and AI enhanced upscaling. Unfortunately Nvidia removed the 500GB hard drive making this essentially the 2017 standard model with slight enhancements (at the same price as that standard model). While that does make the 2019 Pro model $100 cheaper than it's been in years past, you now get substantially less storage and no game controller, which was included in all previous models at the $300 and $200 price points. That being said, the Nvidia Shield Pro Android TV continues to be the best streaming box for home theater enthusiasts and the updates in the 2019 version make it even better in that regard. The 2019 models are however worse for people looking to game on them.
