I had owned the 2015 version of the Shield. It didn't support Dolby Vision bur was a really good Android device.
When the new 2019 came out, I bought one on the first day.
Wow, nice improvements:
Faster menus/system
Dolby Vision support
AI based new upscaling
The Dolby Vision is great but the new AI based up scaling is incredible!
Turns older videos into almost Blu-ray quality.
Great Improvement!

Bought because my smart TV was limited to a 100 mbps connection. This has a gig commection speed, so the picture looks a lot better (no stair stepping). The only problem right now is that once in awhile the picture goes black once or twice in a day. I havent determined the cause. Otherwise, the device does what I want it to and it includes dolby vision and dolby atmos in addition to HDR.

The Nvidia Shield is my go-to streaming box. It supports all modern video and audio codecs, has excellent upscaling, and runs Android TV which is amazing. Plus you can host Plex on it! It's also super tiny and the remote is easy-to-use and has sufficient buttons to make viewing easy.

My biggest negatives are glitches when you come back to the interface after leaving it (switching inputs), it appears it almost forgets it has internet connection. I have to reboot it too much. The other negative is the remote, the remote is essentially a Netflix ad. Your hand always accidentally presses the Netflix button, which I am certan is by design. The big positive is being to handle all audio types

Hands down the best streaming device on the market. Full 4k HDR, Dolby Vision capability with first class AI upscaling of lower resolution content. All hi def audio codecs, Dolby Atmos and DTS X are supported. It even has gaming support as well. You get what you pay for and you get everything with the Nvidia Shield. Word to the wise get the PRO. DON'T get the tube version for less!!! It has performance issues but you can't go wrong with this one

Excellent streaming device I recommend this device to all of my family and friends. You can’t beat the speed picture quality and performance. I’ve been purchasing Nvidia products for the past five years. I have not had any issues with there products. If you want the absolute best in the game choosing Nvidia is your absolute best option.

First - Don't get the NVDIA TUBE version, you will regret it!
This unit replaced my older Shield from 2017, which is still awesome and in the bedroom now. Plus I couldn't resist the sale and CC bonus points :)
TV/Sound = SONY 65" 850F w/ Definitive Technology Studio Slim soundbar + ROKU Ultra x4660 as backup.
If you have the 2015 or 2017 Shield, not much of an upgrade if your TV is in the mid tier.
> Powered by Android, so you can do alot with it...
> From 2017 unit to Pro, identical built and software + new updates like AI upscaling, DV, and new remote. You can buy the new
remote for $30 for the older Shields. Not much of CPU speed increase from 2017.
> The enhanced AI upscaling is really good on older content (720P + anime) but on newer stuff, you probably won't notice it.
> Awesome game emulator. Tons of classic games to relive your youth and get a portable HDD or USB flash. The storage is < 16GB
In a nutshell, if you have an older Shield - stick w/ it and get the new remote. The only unit I think that goes head to head is the current Apple 4K TV in streaming content but the NVDIA Shield does soooooo much more due to Android OS plus NVDIA is still doing updates on older Shields!

I have owned apple tv 4k, roku ultra and fire tv4k and the picture quality in this far exceeds any of them. The true test is when you ho back to watch older shows and see the upscaling to 4k. Older shows have never so beautiful. Between that and the dolby audio make this worth the price if you want the best picture and siund quality when streaming.

This is by far the best streaming device of them all. It is fast, has options on top of options, or just use it with defaults. Amazing improvement in the picture quality on streaming 720p and 1080p live tv streams compared to built in apps on most smart TV's.
Only thing missing is Fox Sports 4K/HDR on that app, and some HDR formats on Youtube, but that is the fault of the app, not the shield. Highly recommended.

Can't really say anything bad about the Shield Pro. It plays all of the major streaming apps in 4k with Atmos. I added several game emulators and it easily syncs with multiple controllers. The remote easily paired with my 4k Samsung TV to control the power & volume. If you are looking for the best all around Media Player on the market, look no further!

Nice would have done 5 star but the phone style micro USB can dislodge from weight of cord, relief of this by having cord setup with less direct tension helps. The large memory helps on speed and reduces latency.

I had the previous shield and decided to upgrade to this new one after getting a new 4k TV so I could make use of the Upscaling the new model has and its been great. The upscaling really does make a difference and its good. You can have a good amount of detail without losing clarity which is impressive. the new remote also feels solid and I like the inclusion of the netflix button since we watch a lot of netflix in my household.

I have two of the 2017 models, and this is a decent upgrade from them. I mainly use these for running Kodi which is playing local movies and tv shows from my main PC. The remote on this is much nicer than the 2017. I haven't used the 4k upscaling yet so I can't comment on that. I don't notice any speed difference, though I suspect that might be more apparent in demanding games. One thing I have noticed is that every problem I have with my 2017 models has been fixed in this version. I have a number of problem files in movies and tv shows that will not play nice with Kodi for some reason, and this updated device works on ALL of them perfectly. I also have had HDMI handshake issues with my 2017 models since the last update, and this model does not share those issues. Overall, a worthwhile upgrade.

This is by far the best Streaming box I've owned. I also own two 4k Apple TVs and this is much faster and responsive overall, with a great upscale for non-4k media and a really nice, quality feeling remote.
The reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is that it runs on Android TV, so it doesn't have the best interface, and sometimes it won't wake up so I have to disconnect the power to reboot it.
Overall, it's a really nice unit and if you use Geforce Now or Steam Link in-home streaming, it's a MUCH better choice than Apple TV (which won't even allow Geforce Now).

Already had the tubular nvidia shield and recently purchased a projector, so I decided why not try the better one now that it's finally back in stock. No regrets the 64 bit android interface has colors that pop out more and upscaled content looks better. Both are very fast but this one is noticeablu snappier. I am not disappointed with either of them and neither will you, but if you want the best of the best this is it.

Shield has been awesome, the amount of games you get for free is insane. Graphics are amazing and the Tablo that would not work with Chromecast (without feezing) works incredibly well on the Shield. Only issue I have is the remote, I have had it shut off twice for some unknown reason. The only option to fix is to reset it, unplug the shield, then plug it back in and wait.
