As an Android box, it's almost peerless. Great for videos, emulation, all forms of Android gaming. But it's high hook is Geforce Now, and that took a MASSIVE BLOW when more then half of the companies out there bailed on the initiative.
Most of the games you probably already own on Steam are now no longer available, including DOOM, Diablo, and Call of Duty. There's still plenty left, it's not like you can't use the service, but it's far from a complete list of PC games. When it does work it's great, assuming you paid the $5 a month. Don't bother with the Free membership, I waited for over 5 HOURS to try a single game before I was forced to give up, having spent 1 solid hour at #2 in the cue.
It's still a great box, and if you're not into the service, then it's flawless... accept for the high price and low availability. I give it a 4 out of 5, just because of the hassles that are involved with owning on.

Bought this to use on an already smart tv, but the integrated Plex app on smart TVs is pretty bad. This works fantastic for that and a wide range of other functions, and it does them all very well!

Fully capable of being fully customizable, this is the most powerful streaming device anyone can ask for. despite having (potential) issues competing with their own product (costing $50 less) this is far and away the best at what it does. The 'upgrade' from the $150 version is worth it in every way, except maybe how much louder it runs. Easily missed when streaming, though, so I don't dock it for that. I hate the 'Netflix' button, but thankfully that's customizable with a 3rd party app. So much so that you can have multiple clicks do different things (short press/long press etc).

Plays everything. Super responsive. New remote is great.
Owned the 2017 non-pro model, and I am happy they included Dolby Vision with this model.
Still waiting on fix for color content switching.

Went through two of these because the 1st one bricked itself overnight(it's first night) with an update gone wrong. BB happily let me exchange it. From there on it's been great. I originally got it because I needed something I could use with my received to stream to a 4K projector 20+ feet on the other side of the room. I tried many other devices but they couldn't complete the handshakes. This has been perfect and I also use it with our LG C9 to watch HBO Max movies in 4K/DV. There's a lot of other things you can do with these but that's all we needed it for.

Works wonderfully as a Plex server. I have a NAS that I could mount to the shield to host all my Plex media. The storage needs to be larger though. For Plex to hold all the meta data, I had to connect an external HDD. Use a guide to easily get it set up.
I can now have transcoding for the Live TV.
Previously used a raspberry pi 3 which worked decent but was slower and couldn’t do the transcoding needed to use it for Live TV and recording.

The refreshed CPU on the pro version is much more responsive and snappy than the previous 1st gen Shield. It is especially evident when comparing the snappines of the interface compared to a new 2019 smart tv.
The AI upscale feature is legit and not just marketing smoke. So much so that they have enabled a demo mode at the tap of a button where you can see the A|B comparison on screen.
The remote is excellent, a bit weird shaped, but comfortable to hold. Backlighting is a nice touch. Power button and physical button were much needed features that have finally made it. I'd recommend getting this remote if you have the older gen Shield as well.
The absence of a game controller is questionable since Shield was always targeted as a gamer device more than an Android TV. So the exclusion from the price makes the overall price a bit steep.
TLDR; no better Android TV console on the market. No better game stream device on the market.

I have every version of the Shield and recently purchased the new pro for the man cave. The other versions did not support dolby atmos and after reading and watching several reviews I figured the Atmos would be the only real upgrade. Not only do I feel the reviews written are inaccurate they completely missed it. It may not make much difference on app's like Disney+, Amazon Prime, and others, but if you are a cable cutter and use any type of live streaming app's this is where this unit shines. I continue to be amazed and the difference the new up-scaling is from TV to TV. This is my 5th Shield and I will be upgrading at least one more unit very soon.

If youre looking for a streaming media center this is it. Fast and easy to use. I run Kodi, Amazon and Netflix on it and couldnt be happier. Also very fun to game on

I am not even close to using the full power & functionality of this device. I was blown away be the AI behind the up-scaling of 720P, 1080i and 1080P content. In addition, I am extremely happy with the quality of the audio codecs, especially dolby atmos (where the media provider has made that content available. I have not tried gaming yet, however as a web streamer it is awesome.

Steaming TV made easy!
Has all the latest apps on an Android interface. Easy to access and install apps of any kind. All in one place with voice activated controls or remote controls.

Best streamer, period. My Fire stick 4K does a good job but cannot compare to Nvidia Shield in terms of picture quality and speed. Not to mention it is a great gamer too.

Upgraded from the Shield tube to the Pro version after 2 years. The Pro version is definitely worth the price premium over the tube. I mostly use the Shield pro for PLEX and it handles everything beautifully. Zero complaints other than the very high price, but for PLEX users this is the best option I have used

Great Android box. Can get many apps. Works flawlessly very fast the streaming from PC is also really good. This is by far the best Android box you can get for TV to gaming is just a plus.
