Good experience, but has hardware issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i read a few reviews online before getting one, i opted for the 500GB "Pro" version even though nvidia had issued a recall on some of them because of hard drives malfunctioning. Anyway Android TV is pretty cool, the interface was really easy to use and intuitive. Not all games from Android store are available on the device, but the ones that are, play very nicely. Installing media apps, and media servers are the main reason to get this if you are a cord cutter. I didn't try the Geforce now streaming service, because most of the games on it did not interest me, or they are games I already played on the PS3. OH if you own one of the newer nvidia graphics card on a PC, you can stream your games from your pc to this device. I dont game on PC anymore though :( They say the Netflix app on the device can stream True 4k to your 4k TV, I cant comment on it because I dont own a 4k TV. I ended up returning it because it stopped powering on after about 2 weeks of using it. I would have to unplug the power cable from device itself, wait a bit and it would turn on after plugging it back in. I dont know why that was happening. Software bug? Maybe a hardware problem. I know nvidia has acknowledged problems in the past with hard drives and other of their "shield" devices. I wouldn't recommend you buy this unless you dont already own a gaming console, or pc, or other media streaming device. If you're in the market for an android tv solely for media consumption - look at cheaper options. The gaming capabilities alone on this device just isn't worth the money.

Great Home Theater PC
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for a great hometheater PC, this is awesome. It supports full 4k video (even the True Color standards of 4:4:4) and 7.1 Audio. I use Kodi as my entertainment center app and it just works. I also use it to play games but if you're looking for a real gaming center, go with a PC or PS4.

Pricey but not too shabby
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I previously had a roku 4 media player and considered the shield when it became plex server capable and when I learned that it would pass through lossless audio. Unfortunately it took more time, effort and setup to get things running correctly. It took a lot of cross referenced forum reading to understand the shield itself, plex and most importantly to me ....passing through lossless audio. The hardware of the shield is excellent, the current software update 3.2 is a bit buggy and can cause some frustration especially when trying to get HDR setup for Netflix. Plex won't pass through lossless audio so you have to look to another app solution SPMC/KODI to get the most out of the shield being an HTPC replacement. I do find that I hate the controller that comes with the shield and wished they packaged the remote with the pro package.

Super Fast
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this device for Kodi and watching HD Movies from a external hard drive. I've tried a bunch of boxes and this one is by far the best. Great gaming system too. Lots of great games to choose from. It's more on the expensive side but you get what you pay for.

This thing is sweet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this android tv for streaming mostly. I didn't really like using the controller although some people may prefer it. I got the overpriced remote that comes separately. If you use the games the controlley is necessary. Overall a nice streaming box

Nice media player
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nvidia makes a good product. Bought the shield mostly to run KODI on it. It's a bonus to have all the extras that Nvidia Shield has on it. It is a very powerful streaming box. It is a bit expensive which is why I rated 4 stars. If you get it on sale the value is better.

WOW!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are tired of huge cable bills. This is your way out! NVidia Shield TV is by far the best Android TV on the market! For games there is a huge selection of AAA+ PC games and Android games. But for TV just add Kodi from playstore and add Chris B spartan wizard and say by-by to cable. Huge selection of Movies,TV shows, cartoons and more!

The best streaming box.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's powerful enough to run the most intensive games, streams Netflix, Hulu, and others (and even Amazon Prime if you know how) perfectly. It's got a built in Plex server too. Roku doesn't hold a candle to it.

Awesome Device, If only Xfinity would play along
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've got a HPTC, a XBOX 360, a XBOX One, and a PS3 connected to the same tv. By far the NVIDIA shield is the most user friendly media center app with versatility. The HTPC is nice but more difficult to use for the wife, who uses the XBOX 360 primarily. The XBOX one is my second choice over the NVidia Shield. First - the Shield is just quick. It is responsive and fluid, and works great. Streaming games is lag free, and using as a Plex server works nicely (I tested, but still use dedicated computer just because I have one, but The Shield seems to be up to task just fine). The three things limiting me from using the Shield for all my media needs are as such. 1st: Xfinity doesn't play nice with Android TV at the moment, so many of the channel apps won't recognize your xfinity subscription on the Shield, like they do on the XBOX One, HTPC, and XBOX 360. What this means is that to watch certain Apps (USA, Starz Play, HBOGo, SyFy, etc...) I still have to use my XBOX one. This is Xfinity, not supporting the Android TV, not a limitation of the Shield itself, and hopefully will be resolved in the future. 2nd: Amazon doesn't play nice with Android TV, IE no Amazon Prime. 3rd: HDHomerun doesn't support DRM content as of yet on Android TV, so you are left without DRM live channels (Xfinity in Houston would be premium channels such as Starz and HBO, as well as DisneyXD and some others). Most channels on Xfinity are good to go, however the lack of the few still makes my HTPC and XBOX 360 Media Center xtender feature the prime choices for live TV. That said, using the HDHomerun with DVR Feature works (minus the DRM stuff) alright when using the HDHomerun app (Pause and rewind fast forward etc.). I prefer the Google TV Apps interface and Guide to the HDHomerun, but you can't pause or rewind tv with the Google TV App, as of the time of this review. Kodi works nicely with the HD Homerun as a 3rd option, and I typically lean towards using it over the other two. Audio: The Shield just has better audio quality for Plex, Netflix, etc... than the other systems (Minus the HTPC which always seems to be the best and most customizable, but least user friendly). The volume is louder normally when using the shield, than the other pieces of hardware (able to watch items at 45 volume vs 60 for comparable audio). This actually allows me to keep my cabinet door closed as my Onkyo receiver runs cooler at the lower volume setting, and I don't worry about the heat dissipation. Nice. My main controller is a Harmony elite, that works well for navigating, with some minor custom assignments for some of the buttons, and so I rarely use the game controller or separately purchased Nvidia Remote, unless I'm using the Voice function, or playing games. (My wife is also comfortable with the Harmony so it is only one used by her). Overall it is a beast, an awesome device, and the only limitations I've found with it are either 3rd Party related, or some minor limitations to the Android TV OS itself. Nvidia did awesome with the design, and quality of all the components, and it is a mean piece of hardware that is compact and whisper quiet. I would highly recommend.

So far so good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The reason I choose the WRT1200AC is because it is one of the few more futured routers w/o revisions that will take DD-WRT right out of the box. Just got it yesterday, installed the fore mentioned firmware, set up PIA and so far so good. The wireless signal and speed test are better than I expected. Time will tell.
