awesome except...
|Posted .Amazon Video is not compatible with it yet. I even tried to manually install the APK, but it crashes every time I launch the app. I hear they're working it out. We'll see. Any peripheral one might hook up would have to be via Bluetooth, so my wireless USB keyboard/mouse wouldn't work. I had to buy a Bluetooth mini-keyboard which works great. The USB port in the back of the Shield would seem to only be for additional storage which is best formatted by the Shield. Overall, it's a good system with some powerful hardware, and you can install almost any Android app you want. I set mine up as a Plex server, so I can manage all my media in one place and stream from it.

Sleek & very thin. Better than the Amazon Fire st
|Posted .The Nvidia shield is a sleek elegant looking gadget. I love the fact that there is a headphone jack built into the remote & game controller so that if I want to listen to something quietly I can just plug in earphones. I also love that I am able to speak my search requests via Google voice. Access to all my favorite tv services like Netflix, Hulu etc... Not only does this product perform well, but it looks great while doing so.

Powerful Streaming/Gaming Device
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought the Pro version for it's extra 500GB of storage. This device excels at streaming and gaming. I chose this over the Roku 3 and new Fire TV for a streaming device due to it being much faster and for it's ability to run Kodi and many emuators(MAME, etc), plus, the capability to stream at 4K 60hz, which makes it fairly "future proof". It's gaming ability is also top-notch, which lies somewhere between the last generation's consoles(Xbox 360, PS3) and the current ones(Xbox One, PS4), at least hardware-wise. I just downloaded Doom 3 and it runs smooth and looks great. Obviously, the games selection is way below the consoles but there is still plenty to choose from, including android games to high end PC games and many of them are FREE. The Play Store isn't the full version you'd find on any Android phone but many apps or games you can't find there can be "side-loaded" via ES Explorer. Also, this device can be rooted, just like a phone, but I haven't found the need to do that just yet. All in all, this is probably the best streaming device on the market, with only the Roku 4 rivaling it, in my opinion, and it's a bonus that it's also a decent gaming system, too, and I hope this device gets even better with future firmware updates.

Impressive device
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendIt's the best way to interact with my TV. It's a very fast device. I didn't have any issue yet even if the product just got released. I tried the game streaming service and it was stable. I guess connecting the device over Ethernet is helping. Android TV games were fluid. It's good to have the 500GB HD to install everything. It would be nice if additional app were added to Android TV (Chrome, Twitch, Facebook...) I had issues at first with the promo code for the google play credit and the free game (I got the error that it was already redeem!?), but I contacted NVIDIA and it took one day to resolve the issue, so it was good support.

Great for the family
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendMy wife and I purchased this to replace a Fire TV. I am a gamer that has the Nvidia 980ti card. I saw this product that not only has everything a Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV has, but you can link it to your computer via the video cardio stream games from your PC. The Andriod UI is solid. The video services seem close to its competitors. This machine is 4K ready. The setup took 10 minutes. Everything works great. The video is sharp. The thing that surprised me the most was the gaming options. The game library is a little meager at the time, but if you're a retro game fan, the selection is fun. When streaming games from the PC there is virtually no lag. I can play from Battle.net, Steam, and EA Origin. Pros: Stable UI, great video picture, excellent gaming. The included controller is high quality and works excellent. The unit surpassed my expectations. Cons: the accessories are too pricey. The $40 remote stopped working after second charge.

Awesome Device, If only Xfinity would play along
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI've got a HPTC, a XBOX 360, a XBOX One, and a PS3 connected to the same tv. By far the NVIDIA shield is the most user friendly media center app with versatility. The HTPC is nice but more difficult to use for the wife, who uses the XBOX 360 primarily. The XBOX one is my second choice over the NVidia Shield. First - the Shield is just quick. It is responsive and fluid, and works great. Streaming games is lag free, and using as a Plex server works nicely (I tested, but still use dedicated computer just because I have one, but The Shield seems to be up to task just fine). The three things limiting me from using the Shield for all my media needs are as such. 1st: Xfinity doesn't play nice with Android TV at the moment, so many of the channel apps won't recognize your xfinity subscription on the Shield, like they do on the XBOX One, HTPC, and XBOX 360. What this means is that to watch certain Apps (USA, Starz Play, HBOGo, SyFy, etc...) I still have to use my XBOX one. This is Xfinity, not supporting the Android TV, not a limitation of the Shield itself, and hopefully will be resolved in the future. 2nd: Amazon doesn't play nice with Android TV, IE no Amazon Prime. 3rd: HDHomerun doesn't support DRM content as of yet on Android TV, so you are left without DRM live channels (Xfinity in Houston would be premium channels such as Starz and HBO, as well as DisneyXD and some others). Most channels on Xfinity are good to go, however the lack of the few still makes my HTPC and XBOX 360 Media Center xtender feature the prime choices for live TV. That said, using the HDHomerun with DVR Feature works (minus the DRM stuff) alright when using the HDHomerun app (Pause and rewind fast forward etc.). I prefer the Google TV Apps interface and Guide to the HDHomerun, but you can't pause or rewind tv with the Google TV App, as of the time of this review. Kodi works nicely with the HD Homerun as a 3rd option, and I typically lean towards using it over the other two. Audio: The Shield just has better audio quality for Plex, Netflix, etc... than the other systems (Minus the HTPC which always seems to be the best and most customizable, but least user friendly). The volume is louder normally when using the shield, than the other pieces of hardware (able to watch items at 45 volume vs 60 for comparable audio). This actually allows me to keep my cabinet door closed as my Onkyo receiver runs cooler at the lower volume setting, and I don't worry about the heat dissipation. Nice. My main controller is a Harmony elite, that works well for navigating, with some minor custom assignments for some of the buttons, and so I rarely use the game controller or separately purchased Nvidia Remote, unless I'm using the Voice function, or playing games. (My wife is also comfortable with the Harmony so it is only one used by her). Overall it is a beast, an awesome device, and the only limitations I've found with it are either 3rd Party related, or some minor limitations to the Android TV OS itself. Nvidia did awesome with the design, and quality of all the components, and it is a mean piece of hardware that is compact and whisper quiet. I would highly recommend.

Nvidia scores again.
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI had been wanting to check out Android TV ever since it came out. But the other options were lacking in the storage department. The Shield Android TV has it all. Plenty of storage along with the T1 CPU from nvidia, It preforms great. The unit streams games been were without Any stutter or dropped frames. Android access to the Play Store it great .The only glitch so far it the limited number of avalable games. But I am sure Google is working on this. Overall I am very happy with this device and it will only get better.
