The Nvidia shield is a sleek elegant looking gadget. I love the fact that there is a headphone jack built into the remote & game controller so that if I want to listen to something quietly I can just plug in earphones. I also love that I am able to speak my search requests via Google voice. Access to all my favorite tv services like Netflix, Hulu etc... Not only does this product perform well, but it looks great while doing so.

Amazon Video is not compatible with it yet. I even tried to manually install the APK, but it crashes every time I launch the app. I hear they're working it out. We'll see. Any peripheral one might hook up would have to be via Bluetooth, so my wireless USB keyboard/mouse wouldn't work. I had to buy a Bluetooth mini-keyboard which works great. The USB port in the back of the Shield would seem to only be for additional storage which is best formatted by the Shield. Overall, it's a good system with some powerful hardware, and you can install almost any Android app you want. I set mine up as a Plex server, so I can manage all my media in one place and stream from it.

    Powerful Streaming/Gaming Device

I bought the Pro version for it's extra 500GB of storage. This device excels at streaming and gaming. I chose this over the Roku 3 and new Fire TV for a streaming device due to it being much faster and for it's ability to run Kodi and many emuators(MAME, etc), plus, the capability to stream at 4K 60hz, which makes it fairly "future proof". It's gaming ability is also top-notch, which lies somewhere between the last generation's consoles(Xbox 360, PS3) and the current ones(Xbox One, PS4), at least hardware-wise. I just downloaded Doom 3 and it runs smooth and looks great. Obviously, the games selection is way below the consoles but there is still plenty to choose from, including android games to high end PC games and many of them are FREE. The Play Store isn't the full version you'd find on any Android phone but many apps or games you can't find there can be "side-loaded" via ES Explorer. Also, this device can be rooted, just like a phone, but I haven't found the need to do that just yet. All in all, this is probably the best streaming device on the market, with only the Roku 4 rivaling it, in my opinion, and it's a bonus that it's also a decent gaming system, too, and I hope this device gets even better with future firmware updates.

I had been wanting to check out Android TV ever since it came out. But the other options were lacking in the storage department. The Shield Android TV has it all. Plenty of storage along with the T1 CPU from nvidia, It preforms great. The unit streams games been were without Any stutter or dropped frames. Android access to the Play Store it great .The only glitch so far it the limited number of avalable games. But I am sure Google is working on this. Overall I am very happy with this device and it will only get better.

It's the best way to interact with my TV. It's a very fast device. I didn't have any issue yet even if the product just got released. I tried the game streaming service and it was stable. I guess connecting the device over Ethernet is helping. Android TV games were fluid. It's good to have the 500GB HD to install everything. It would be nice if additional app were added to Android TV (Chrome, Twitch, Facebook...) I had issues at first with the promo code for the google play credit and the free game (I got the error that it was already redeem!?), but I contacted NVIDIA and it took one day to resolve the issue, so it was good support.

I have owned both versions of the apple tv, a chromecast, and a Roku 3. The shield is by far my most favorite to use. It has all the modern apps you could think of plus some really useful ones for playing content from your pc to the tv. I am also a pc gamer and livestreaming games like Witcher 3 to a 120" projector screen is just absolute gaming bliss without any hint of fps drops. It is also 4k capable which beats all the other streaming devices to date except for the newest Roku. The shield is fast and responsive and paired with the shield remote allows you to voice dictate pretty much anything. Not to mention it is adequately supported both in content and updates. If you are looking for the best streaming device out there, none comes close to the Nvidia shield. The only cons are that you cannot customize the hub like the apple tv but it is so easy to navigate with voice dictation. It's UI is not as pretty as the new apple tv, but easily overlooked due to the device's capability of playing tons of games and streaming apps.

This to me is by far the best android tv you can get for the price. You can stream tv content and video( hulu, WWE network, Netflix, KODI) and its great. You can also play android games on your tv with a controller that comes already in the box. They even have there own streaming app where for $8 a moth you can stream actually console games even though they may not be the most up to date games. You can also stream PC games but I don't do that . They updated to Android 6.0 so now you can by the lower spaced model and just put a SD card in there and you have more internal storage now.

This is a great streaming option for 4k viewing and the HEVC decoder is above amazing. The game streaming is still in its infancy so don't expect that to be perfect a few of the older steam games have trouble with controller capability but all newer games work with it just fine. This requires a bit of a setup however. Kodi works great on this Box by far the most powerful android box available. The remote needs a little work the volume control lags when using CEC capabilities. The only reason i gave this a 4 is because i had to return the first one due to a hard drive failure plagued by one group of units that were shipped. This is only affecting the Pro models.

I wanted a device that could be used as both a Chromecast and had applications for video streaming built in. I also wanted something that could play some decent games from the Play Store and other sources. The Shield Pro is a bit overpowered for what I use it for, but I wanted something with a large amount of built in storage (because there is nothing more frustrating than running out of room) and a decent game pad. I've had it for over a month now and have not regretted the decision. The only hiccup I've had is a few odd video/audio glitches (freezing and delayed audio) while Chromecast-ing (is that a verb?) Twitch to the unit. This will be resolved once the Twitch app is officially available on Android TV. I would definitely recommend.

I generally like buying and trying stuff but I also do my research before and I heard a lot of hype about the Shield TV and decided It was time to try it out. So for what it is I think its awesome although for most people it really becomes a glorified streaming media player because lets face who doesn't binge watch Netflix or Hulu Plus all day. On that side of things its pretty darn fast and awesome at what it does without any type of problems. On the other side of it all is that Amazing gaming experience you can have on this thing. Its a lot of fun and there are quite a few games not only on the Google Play Store but also through Nvidia's own game library which streams full console quality games directly to the Shield. Now if you don't fast internet speeds it is possible to download the game before hand and play that way as well but keep in mind since it is streaming the game you will have to re-download the game again when you want to play again. The biggest thing about the Shield is the fact that, given its size, its graphics are super crisp and do not lag. Now this is from me trying so maybe you may notice different but anyways. The only con about the Shield from my experience is that I have now owned the Shield for a few months and after the most recent upgrade I have started to notice it stutter a lot during Netflix or Hulu Plus playing and when trying to navigate throughout the menu system with the controller. I am 100% Positive this is not a flaw on my part because of my internet speed or connections being flawed. Tried on my phone tablet smart TV and all seem to be streaming just fine and even when I tried using the Shield with wired Ethernet connection it will still stutter. It is not like buffering where you see the number pop up and let it load it will literally stop and sometimes the audio will continue but the video will stop and then about 5 to ten seconds later its fine again and same for controller but it doesn't work for the same 5 to 10 seconds and then all the buttons I have pressed during that wait time get pressed all at once and it is just frustrating so hopefully this will be fixed with a future update and I can have my flawless Shield back but until them I guess I can go back to my Nexus Player although that's a completely different story.

I purchased this do to having major streaming lag issues on my Sony 65 inch television with Android built in. I haven't really played games on the Shield yet but its fast, supports 4K playback, and works great for watching YouTube videos and other streaming movie apps like Netflix and Hulu Plus. I also use it for Kodi and have not experienced any issues. Its a bit on the pricey side but there is a less expensive Shield available. I hope to play some games on it soon as there is a free 3 month subscription to the Nvidia streaming game service available. There are much cheaper streaming solutions available but none as powerful as this.

Let me say right off the bat that I really do like the device as an android tv. It has replaced my roku and works very well with excellent video quality with a few problems: a) amazon video will not run. Google and amazon are having a tiff so even though amazon video works on every single device out there, it will not run on the one that plugs directly into your tv. I believe you can still run amazon video on your phone and chromecast it directly to the nvidia box though, but I haven't tried that yet. b) This device is designed to work extremely well with the console controller and only the console controller... (well, it works pretty well with the remote as well). You are able to connect either a wi-fi (with usb dongle) or blutooth keyboard and mouse to the device, and they work fine for navigating the UI and typing, but they are disconcerting when trying to play a PC game with a keyboard and mouse. There is what feels like a quarter to a half second lag between doing something on the keyboard and mouse, to seeing it appear on the tv. Its just enough to feel unpleasant and disconcerting. I am not good at using controllers so I'm not sure if the same is true of the controller, but I suspect not. As an android tv I would definately recommend the product, as a way to play video games from my computer on my tv... not really. its a little too sluggish in its responses. It almost works, but just feels sluggish. The picture quality is excellent though while playing games. Oh, and by default, it only wants to use newer directx games on the pc without seeing the old directx 9 games, but you can add older games specifically to Geforce experience on the pc and they show up just fine on the shield.

Before I start this review, I like both operating systems as I have an Apple TV (2015) and now this Nvidia Shield TV. I like both UI interfaces, but Nvidia wins in overall functionality as it has 4k streaming built in, the Apple TV doesn't. But I bought the Nvidia Shield while there was a sale when they gave away a free remote, so that's nice. Gaming is great if you have a rig that can stream your PC games to it, some latency, but that is to be expected as it streams off your internet. Games that run off of the system itself is smooth and no complains, there are some hiccups as freezing and such. But nothing to deter the overall great experience of this device. If you're pro-apple I would say go with the Apple TV box - but be warned it isn't future proofed and will not support 4K content. While this Nvidia box is all about choices, runs google apps, nvidia games, etc. It's an all in one box and can't complain.

I really liked the Nexus Player but was a bit disappointed by the speed and the fact that it would lock up every once in a while. I returned it. The Nexus Player is good starting point and reference device (which is what it's intended for) but the Nvidia Shield shows the huge possibilities of Android TV. I'm keeping the Shield TV.

My wife and I purchased this to replace a Fire TV. I am a gamer that has the Nvidia 980ti card. I saw this product that not only has everything a Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV has, but you can link it to your computer via the video cardio stream games from your PC. The Andriod UI is solid. The video services seem close to its competitors. This machine is 4K ready. The setup took 10 minutes. Everything works great. The video is sharp. The thing that surprised me the most was the gaming options. The game library is a little meager at the time, but if you're a retro game fan, the selection is fun. When streaming games from the PC there is virtually no lag. I can play from Battle.net, Steam, and EA Origin. Pros: Stable UI, great video picture, excellent gaming. The included controller is high quality and works excellent. The unit surpassed my expectations. Cons: the accessories are too pricey. The $40 remote stopped working after second charge.

After reading the features list of what the Nvidia Shield TV can do, and having a 4K TV, I decided I need to get one of these. I have not been let down at all. This has become my primary stream box. I use it to stream games from my PC on my tv. There is a slight perceptable lag but it will still play okay. Multiplayer online games put you at a disadvantage because of the lag. I have installed emulators and roms and all play like a dream. Get this... imeediately. Good job Nvidia.

Absolutely the best Android TV device on the market. It's very powerful and is capable of 4K HDR video output, assuming you have a capable television. Allows you to use it as a Chromecast and you can download apps and games to play on the big screen. You can also stream games from your NVIDIA GeForce powered computer to play on your TV over your local network with virtually no input lag. This device can also be used as a Plex server, just set it up and provide media files and you can watch your library anywhere!
