I have to say in the couple of months that I've owned this pack, I really like it a lot, I bought this for work use, to carry a 14" HP laptop, which it does securely in the padded section. Overall the pack is very comfortable for hoofing it across the long parking lots at work to get to my building, including the shoulder straps and back panel, which is nicely padded and stiff to support good size weight loads, with a plastic panel to help distribute weight. The padding on the back panel is vented to dissipate heat, but doesn't absorb sweat easily if one is prone to that. It has lots of pockets to organize one's cables and other gear, a nice size larger middle section for stuff like file folders and notebooks, along with another decent-sized smaller one to hold a bit more, including a tablet if one is inclined to do so. The organizer panel is good too, with ample pen loops for those of us that still use and carry them, which is something that I found most of the packs I looked at had too few or none of. The two bottom pockets on the outside are handy for an umbrella and water bottle or coffee mug, and the two top side pockets great for cables. I love the reinforced sunglasses pocket, which is great for protecting expensive glasses, though it is a bit large - large enough to hold goggles I should think. The one additional outer pocket at the top is great for little quick access items you need like lip balm, a Listerine spray and such, with two elasticized pockets inside the flap. What could make this better would be elastic edges on the flap itself, so you can store things in the open portion and not have them fall out when the flap is zipped completely open. The pack is capacious without being sloppy or bulky, and I anticipate it would slip under a seat on an airplane without issue, which will be handy when I start traveling for business. I find that I could easily stuff a ton more than I do and it still rides well when walking vigorously, without sloshing about. It's a nice blend of classy looking, with a sporty edge, but still works for business use, making it professional looking, but distinctive compare to its more boring counterparts in the market. Materials seem top-notch, with ballistic nylon throughout, and I expect will be durable for years of use. The negatives of this pack are largely very small. The lack of a key strap/clip in the organizer panel is a notable, significant oversight in my view, and exceedingly annoying, but not enough to not like this pack a lot - I'll probably sew my own in, given my proclivity for occasionally losing my keys. I'd like to see the straps be a little longer, they are only just long enough for comfort for me as a 6'3" man. Taller folks than I will find the straps too short, with the padding stopping too short in the front of one's chest and below one's armpits. The other oversight is the media/phone pocket on the left strap, which is effectively functionally useless for any of today's smartphones, especially plus-sized ones, because it's too small to get one in. The only other thing I might like to see added to the pack is perhaps a couple of daisy-chain loops on the outside to clip stuff to on the outside, but again, this is a small negative.

Not Meant for a College Student

What I carry on a daily basis: Two 1 1/2" binders A Chemistry book (11 1/2 x 8 x 4) A Philosophy book (11 1/2 x 8 x 2) Two smaller books (8 x 6 x 2) A planner 4 Pens HP Pavilion m6 laptop Mouse Charger for laptop Galaxy S4 Ipad Mini w/ Zagg keyboard Review: The Renegade is a very solid backpack with awesome build qualities. It is a little heavy but that is only because of the high quality build materials used in this backpack. I am a full time college student and have a lot of things with me at all times. I just recently went through my 3rd backpack this semester and decided it was time to buy something that would last. I did my research and came across this bag and it seemed like a perfect fit. I have now gotten the bag and feel as though it deserves a solid review. The bag is awesome and comes with more pockets than I know what to do with, however they are not all plausible. The cellphone pocket really is about pointless. I have a Galaxy S4 and there is not a chance that the phone will fit, I actually have a hard time putting pens into the pocket so I have easy access to them. The main pocket is a little smaller than I would like and does not fit everything that I carry. I have to put the 2 smaller books into the tablet pocket which I am not a huge fan of doing being that the mini is relatively fragile. Yes I realize that they are trying to keep the size of the bag down. The two side pockets are also very small and do not fit my laptop charger unless I put the power block on one side and the actual cord on the other. Now lets talk about the laptop pocket. This is by far the best laptop compartment I have ever seen in a backpack. The pocket has tons of protection and a rigid divider to keep everything tight. The bottom of the bag also has a nice 'suspension' like feature that I feel as though would help my laptop if I set the bag down a little to hard. The water bottle pocket is very nice and does not seem as though it will stretch out like most do. Other than the main compartment being a little to small, the side pockets being small and the cell phone pocket hardly big enough to get a pen into, this is a solid bag and would recommend to most.

I bought this last week, and then used it during a 5 day card tournament where it was pretty full the entire time. I would say during that 5 days, I learned quite a bit about the backpack. Ton's of space to put everything, but unfortunately, it does not sit quite right. Ended up with a major rub rash on my arm next to my shoulder. It also didn't allow enough air through the back, so sweating could quickly become an issue as that part of the back became really hot in the Las Vegas environment. I had an older backpack that I used last year for a similar function in Vegas and did not have these two issues. Pros: * Pockets and space galore - all kinds of pockets for everything. Easy to put in your sunglasses and/or headphones. Pockets for phones, power banks, water bottles and much more. The laptop sleeve felt very snug and held my 15" laptop with ease. The main pocket was able to hold my 2" thick, completely filled binder with no problem whatsoever. I was able to basically hold everything I wanted easily. Con's: After a few days of wearing the backpack, I noticed that it was rubbing on the upper portion of my arm (right near the shoulder. The only way to avoid this was to connect the sternum strap every time I was walking around. Back airflow - in the Vegas heat, the back heated up pretty quick. With my previous backpack, I never really noticed any issues with this, but with this one, it seemed like my back would get pretty hot and sweaty. There is a zippered pocket on one side that can be used to hold a water bottle with ease. They have a similar pocket on the opposite side, that cannot. it would be nice if both pockets could hold a water bottle. I will be returning this one and trying my luck with a different backpack.

    Great bag for school

I purchased this bag before starting school for the semester. I typically carry my 15" laptop, charger, books, external USB battery, and a few other items in it daily. This bag does a great job of organizing everything into nice little compartments. The added bonus is the hard case on the top for glasses or something you don't want crushed. The laptop protection is probably the best I've found in a laptop bag yet. After trying other bags from Swiss Gear and Oakley, I've found this Ogio to be the best one yet. On the other hand, I have a few (small) gripes with the bag. First, the straps. they're a bit too short. Being a taller guy (6'4"), I have them fully extended, and it still rides just a tad too high on my back for what I'd like. The straps themselves, are comfortable, even with the bag loaded with books and other items. Second, and this more a personal gripe, but I wouldn't mind it being about an inch or two taller. That little bit of extra storage space would be handy. Last, price. $150 is a bit steep for a bag, but I realize when you're carrying thousands of dollars of equipment around, it doesn't seem that bad. Overall, I'd definitely recommend the bag to anyone looking for a sturdy, well rounded tech bag that allows them to carry just about everything in a nice, organized setup. I can only hope that it holds up as well as other Ogio bags I've heard about.

Pound for pound, this is the best back pack for your tech gear. I've been waiting this pack for sometime, but didn't want to pay the price for it. Best Buy had it on sale for $124 when I bought mine. After having it almost three months, paying the normal price for this back isn't an issue. My laptop has never been better protected in a backpack. I carry a 15in Mac Pro with Retina display. My mouse, headphones, a HDD, iPad mini, and so much more. This thing is a beast of a pack. I love the vault at the top to protect glasses or whatever else I throw in there. My only issue is the fact that it won't stand up on its own. It has to be propped up against something. Get this bag, you won't be disappointed.

This is an amazing backpack and so worth the extra cost compared to other backpacks. I ordered it to replace a cheap backpack provided by my company. I wanted something that was more versatile and could carry more things. This Ogio fits exactly what I was looking for. I've found all the different compartments to be very useful for carrying all my various cords, chargers, calculator, laptop mouse, sunglasses, etc. This helps keep all my things organized. The laptop compartment itself is excellent and provides great protection. I especially like the glasses compartment for storing an extra eyeglasses along with my iPod or iPhone. I use this everyday for work and recently took it on a 3 week business trip where I really saw the benefit of the amount of storage. I loaded it down with extra things to keep my luggage to just this backpack and a carry-on suitcase. It was very comfortable to wear when fully loaded as well.

    Replaced Metro Laptop Backpack

I got this because the laptop slot on my Ogio Metro backpack ripped after 4 years of daily use. The Renegade is significantly more robust than the Metro and features lots of padding to protect your laptop. The slot loads from the top of the bag and has a thick plush foam in the front, back, and on the bottom of the laptop compartment. The materials and construction are very good with thick thread stitching and reinforcements where stress is the highest. There are several storage compartments to keep your stuff organized. I used to use the Metro bag as an overnight bag when I travel. This bag is not as cavernous which limits the amount of clothes you can stuff into it. At first this was off putting, but I've grown used to it, which has allowed me to optimize the space for my essential work items. Overall, I really like this bag, and would recommend it to someone who is a work traveler and needs to stay organized and efficient.

I really appreciate this pack! I looked at many online reviews as well as physically looked at numerous packs for work related travel. The layout of the pockets on this pack are wonderful. I like to have individual spaces for all my gear. This one delivers. There are spots for all my cords and cables along with mouse and drives. Laptop and designated tablet pockets are easily used and access for retrieval of items. I do wish that the water bottle holder was bigger and I newrly didn't get the pack due to that. I always carry a bottle with me and typically carry one bigger than can fit in this holder. I've had to go down to my smaller hydro flask (18 oz) wide mouth bottle to ensure fit, but my contigo coffee mug and water bottle fit, the pocket is a little short for my preference for those! There isn't much space to pack any gear as far as a change of clothes or shoes so in my opinion this wouldn't work for a weekend trip where the backpack is all you carried! Pack is extremely streamlined and fits well overhead or under the seat on an airplane (pack is on the longer side so it sticks out slightly under the seat).

This is an awesome backpack from OGIO. It has a ton of space and a lot of pockets. The color of this backpack is awesome with red tags on the zippers. The zippers themselves is something distinctive from OGIO. They are super easy to open and close. A cool feature of this particular backpack is the hard pocket to protect the sunglasses. It also has a special pocket for a medium sized iPad. Another cool thing: a pass through on the back to put it on your carry on bag’s handle. The backpack is super comfortable, but when you are carrying a lot of stuff and you are on a long trip, having the ability to carry it safely on your carry on luggage is great. However, now that I say traveling, this backpack might be too big for European airlines. But if you need a backpack to carry all your cables, your big laptop, your tablet, your sunglasses, books, a light jacket, 2 water bottles, external hard drives, etc, etc, etc, and you want a durable, stylish backpack with awesome zippers, this is for you.

This is my first OGIO backpack and I love it. It's great for transporting my laptop as well as using it as a school/work bag. The different sections of the bag are great for organizing all my items. The laptop and sunglasses compartment are the two sections I love the most about the bag. The padding is great for protecting my laptop and the hardened section for the sunglasses ensures I don't break my Oakley's. The build quality is great, it is comfortable on my back (when adjusted), and it is very sturdy. Enough about the pros and now to the cons. The price may send some folks into (sticker) shock. To get the bag comfortably on your back, you have to loosen the straps all the way then tighten it, everytime. You can either leave the bag loosened so you don't have to readjust it all the time, but then the bag sits lows low on your back. The second option is to slightly loosen the straps and try to squeeze your arms through. It's not one of those bags you can leave at one setting then hope to easily put on and take off. I have a small to medium frame and it feels small on me. BLUF: If price is not a concern, I recommend this bag.

Received this bag as a gift to replace an old, worn out Ogio bag, and overall it's a solid quality bag as you'd expect from Ogio. It looks great, and I really like the reinforced glasses pouch on top, and the chest clip between the straps. Downsides are that the laptop section doesn't open very wide, and there's no separate sleeve for papers or folders that I had with my last Ogio backpack. Also missing an internal hook for keys, and a hook or loop on the outside to which I can clip my work badge at the end of the day. Finally, my last bag had nice big plastic loops to make it easy to tighten the straps with a finger, but this one has small sewn loops too small for my fingers to slip through. If these features aren't important to you, you'll love the bag, but I'd have probably looked at a few other options if I had picked it out myself.

I recently took a long term assignment from home. Doing so required that I not only bring my work life with me, but also my home life too. I was looking for a backpack with tons of space and found this in the Renegade. All my devices fit snugly in their own pockets but also remain accessible without digging. The main compartment carries all my files with ease (although not a goal, I have yet to 'fill it up'). This is a very good backpack. My only feedback is the length, or lack thereof, the straps attached to the lower part of the pack. If you're an average sized guy wearing winter gear, as I am now, the straps are too short to comfortably fit over a winter jacket and must be pulled out to their max just to be able to carry over one shoulder. I owned a Swiss Gear years back that had much longer straps with plastic pulls/thumb-rests at the ends of the straps. This was very convenient and useful. I hope the folks at Ogio consider this in the next generation.

I researched numerous backpacks for my new laptop and the essential items I require on a daily basis and this Ogio was all that I could ask for and more. With that said, I am now going to purchase another one from Best Buy for my co-worker who currently has a SwissGear pack that has failed him after a year. The quality and workmanship of this Ogio backpack is immeasurable and the armored compartment for the laptop is real-time protection. I had it sitting on the back rail of my truck while loading materials and accidently knocked it off with my laptop in it from about 5 feet of the ground. Not a scratch or any damage at all on the laptop. Opened it up and it booted right up with no issues...thank you Ogio!!!

Great bag. Love the organization and the set up of all the pockets. The only think I do not like about the back pack is basically the straps or at least how it connects from the bag to the straps. The straps themselves are comfortable to wear and are really well padded. However the attachment point of the bag to the straps feels weak. It's a thins "durable" fabric that is breathable but at the same times keeps me cautious about over loading the bag. I use it as an EDC bag for work and school. So I carry my 15" laptop very comfortably with room to spare. I also have on occasion my tablet but I always carry 2 notebooks, 1 textbook, 1 moleskin planner for 2015 and pens, powerbank and a few flashdrives. One more thing I wished that it had was another bottle holder pocket.

I can't say enough about this backpack. Everyone that has seen it comments on it and is extremely impressed with the laptop compartment and protection. It is exceptionally comfortable to carry even when I overload it (which I do a lot) and still has room to carry bottled water (or a tasty beverage) for your journey. I am about to purchase another OGIO Renegade for a good friend who decided to buy a Targus laptop backpack (nothing against Targus), and the strap on the right side failed and his screen is now clouded. My OGIO fell of the back of my pickup with the laptop in it and I had ZERO damage. That was a testament to a superior product. Spend the money and protect your investment.

OGIO's Renegade RSS Laptop Backpack 17 is a pricey backpack compared to many other brands. I had high expectations to the product, after I bought it. On first use, during my walk to the train (1 km long walk), the locks on both shoulder straps doesn't hold the straps in position. The straps slide through slowly as you walk, and you have to tighten them over and over as you walk. Also, the zippers on all of the pockets are a bit too loose. Little more resistancce would have been good. Others might open the zippers and lift valuables, without you knowing/hearing it, on trains, bus, where there can be lot of people cramped together. The OGIO Renegade is over-priced and doesn't live up to its' high price tag. Wouldn't recommend it, mainly because of the shoulder straps and its' locks not holding the length of the straps in position.

This bag is well put together. Material seems strong and the zippers are nice and study. I thought there might not be much room in it after filling it up with my cables, tablet, and laptop but the main area is deceivingly large. There is a hard case area for stowing things you don't want to get crushed. It positions itself high on your shoulders and seems to be comfortable to carry. I have not carried it for a long time yet. It is staying stiff far and not loose like other bags made of lesser material. Laptop compartment is a tight fit, but keeps laptop very secure and protected. The price was steep but I feel like this is what I was looking for and it has lived up to the hype as the best tech backpack out there.

I carry 3 laptops because of my work. One of the laptops is delicate. I really like the laptop section on this bag. The protective padding really keeps the laptop secure. There are 4 side pockets on this bag. Lots of room to put items in. At the top there is a cellphone protective pocket. I keep my delicate stuff like cellphone, watch and other small electronic stuff. I am a tall guy, 6+ feet, the way this bag lays flat on my back allows for greater stability while walking around and also the weight is distributed evenly. I now don't have back aches when using this bag as I used to with the other bags. The material is waterproof (kinda) so when I carry my laptops around, I am not worried about rain. Yes, get this bag

I had been searching for a protective backpack that could hold a Dell workstation (17") and that also had compartments that were well laid out and easily accessible. I have finally found it after many hours of research and comparisons. You pay a premium but it surely is worth every penny, it's one of those bags that you will not outgrow and is well constructed and padded. You could tell that they really spent some time engineering this thing! Ogio also makes a aerodynamic motorcycle bag that I will now consider since I ride to work sometimes as well. I very seldom review things with five stars, especially after using something daily for over 4 months and giving it a chance to break. You wont be disappointed.

The seams on this backpack are not very well done. When I first received it it had a few loose threads, I thought 'No problem'. 4 Months later, now interior seams are becoming undone around the sunglasses compartment. I anticipate this is going to fall apart before the year is over. Dollar store baggies have better sewing. I am only using it for work; I am not rough with the pack or hike with it or anything. This backpack can't handle regular usage! For the price it's not worth it. I can't return this anymore or I would have. I am going to have to sew this back together.
