My old Onkyo died on me and I needed something temporary till I could send mine in for warranty. This is a great receiver and gets the job done. Was about half less than the cost of my current receiver and sounds pretty good. Doesn't have all of the same features but puts out good audio.

    Great features and Sound, BUT.....

I bought this because it has HDMI inputs/outputs plus legacy inputs (component, composite etc) . It has great sound and it was relatively easy to set up and configure. Now the "But..." part. I really liked the wifi feature (for Pandora, Tune in etc), however the wifi kept locking up after a few days. The only way to clear it was to disconnect it from power and let it reset. I called Onkyo and they said that happens if you have several other devices on your net ( I have 3 or 4). Their recommended fix was to run a cat5 cable to my router and use the wired network connection instead of wifi. ALSO: the receiver will only receive firmware updates via a wired network connection. WHY HAVE WIFI THEN? I have run a temporary cat5 cable and it is working fine now, plus I also received a firmware update. I plan to run a permanent wired connection to my home theater shelves (its only 10 feet away from the router). I would recommend this if you plan to use the wired network connection instead of wifi. If the wifi had worked as advertised, I would have given it 5 stars.

Receiver was well rated by all trade magazines for quality and value. They were correct. Sound quality is excellent with a terrific bang for the buck. Extremely pleased and would buy again.

I had an older onkyo that has mostly analog connections and wanted to upgrade to get additional digital connections - e.g. usb, bluetooth, etc. The sound is much fuller and crisp compared to the old receiver. it works well with my bose speakers. i've only used a few new features and look forward to trying more of them. the only (minor) negatives - it is difficult to determine which sound setting is best without just experimenting (which can be fun as well) and I wish the new one had the blue back lighting that the old did.

This receiver is great! If you are apartment and can't get creative with mounting speakers in the wall or ceiling, this receiver gives you more than enough power to have a great surround sound experience with 7.2 channels of awsome.

We had an older similar model that died and we upgraded to this version. Installation had some nice features like a microphone used to optimize delays and levels based on operating position. We connect it to a flat panel TV, 5 channel speaker system, TIVO, Blu-Ray, and AppleTV. We use the zone 2 feature extensively to provide audio to other rooms. Addition of AirPlay to this model is really interesting but we haven't used it yet. The previous model only lasted 3 years before the amp died so I'm hoping this one will last longer.

Spent a lot of time researching this purchase, I wanted something that would last as long. All the inputs are great; HDMI (front and back, two out), optical and coax audio, and all the other analog connections. The UI is very easy to use. The physical design is very simple with clean lines and just the necessary controls exposed, everything else is nicely covered by the sturdy front flap. Setup was easy; made all the connections and configured all the options intuitively and quickly. Very happy with the purchase

Music and movie sound is terrific. Great presence, separation and clarity. Although setup seems easy, speaker assignment needs study.

I was very skeptical with Onkyo this time around because they dropped Audyssey over Accueq but I can say this receiver has the punch to drive all the speakers. I am not sure how Accueq works but it makes the system sound nice.

Very easy setup; this user friendly receiver balances any audio source (blu-ray, iPhone, video game, cable/satellite). Once setup I never have to adjust the EQ for any of the audio sources. Sound is extraordinary, rich bass with clear highs (jazz sounds magnificent). This receiver does not seem to be overly sensitive like the Sony receiver I trashed due to it constantly going into protect mode during high pitched sounds. I am very satisfied with this product as I have not had any protect mode issues.

I upgraded from a Onkyo TX-NR607 7.2 surround that I've been using for the last 4-6 years. I'm still pushing the same Energy Take Classic 5.1 speaker system from before as well as an additional Energy ESW-M8 sub in an L-shaped room which is hard to get proper sound in. I use this for gaming, movies, and music and I must say it's quite an improvement from my previous Onkyo. It has all and more of the punch of the TX-NR607, but with much more clarity, easier setup, and a few extra bells and whistles.

I had an earlier Onkyo Receiver which needed to be replaced. The important features for me were Bluetooth, network connections and applications, and multiple HDMI connections. The use of all the speakers including surround sound rear speakers makes for the best sound I have heard in a while. The linking of the phone via the application is well done. I have read the more complete versions may offer more features, but this one met my needs at a reasonable price. Well worth it.

It has a lot more options than my onkyo tx-sr608 which you can adjust every speaker frequency which allows you to customize the sound you want and it sounds way better than going to a theater.
