This replaces my old non hdmi pioneer reciever it works ver well. I am still tweeking setings . The one thing that suprises me,hence the4 stars,I can't find a way to play mp4 movies or any movies from the usb connection. So I bought a blueray player that has usb movie capability, this works but is a work around. Other then that works well

This was a spur of the moment purchase that I have been extremely happy with. Currently only has a Klipsh R-25C center channel and Klipsch R-12SW subwoofer and system has very good sound and house shaking bass. The wireless and Bluetooth are awesome to rid of excessive cord to hook devices.

To start I think the clearance price is a really good deal. I ultimately returned the receiver because I felt the sound was average at best. I used to have an Onkyo 606 which I really liked . I thought I'd give this a try based on the feature set and my past experience with the brand. Once set up it updated FW and ran the auto eq. It measured the size of speakers correctly but distances were off by quite a bit. Manually adjusted and started to listen. As others have stated you really don't hear sound until volume is at 35. What really sealed the deal to return is I was listening to Pandora, a very familiar song was on. It played a part with some detail to it. I actually looked to see if my speakers were hooked up correctly. The nuance and detail were missing . Returned for a Sony Strdn1080 and the detail is back as well as more control in the bass department . In the end, great features let down by average sound.

I bought this as a replacement for an old unit that the sound failed on after only a month. Not pleased with the brand failing and have heard that that was a big issue back in 2011-2013... hoping it doesn't continue. Thank God I bought the Best Buy Protection plan they replaced with with almost no hassle and I got a better unit in the process.

I am looking forward to using this new system once installed

This product has all the features I needed to get my home theater started and controls it easily. The only shortcoming is when using an HDMI source the sound is cut in half so the volume needs to be set at 50 to watch TV.

I got this receiver for my husband to go with his new 4K TV and it has been working great. It has a lot of HDMI connections, which is what we needed. Can't get a couple of speakers to work with it yet (we have 7), but we might need to call the company again because we may be going into the wrong plug in the back.

This receiver has been great thus far. However, I have not had it long enough to speak to long-term performance. Thus far seems to work fine. I have had no success connecting the Ethernet cord directly versus connecting wirelessly to the internet. When connecting the Ethernet wire it doesn't recognize my network,

I bought this receiver when I upgraded my TV and cable and realized my old receiver was obsolete. I bought this one in the hopes that I wouldn't have to buy another one in the next ten years. It has many features that I don't use yet but the audio is great. I'm looking forward to figuring out all this receiver has to offer.

I run a pretty high end system but when my previous Onkyo went to the shop I thought maybe a new model would still work. This was the top of the line Onkyo that BB carried. It did not do the atmos in 7.1 and that was what I was hoping for. Probably would be good for people not trying to run a elaborate speaker setup.

Would of given it 5 stars if the advance instructions would of been printed along with the basic, also the receiver seems a little gitchy at time's, but it could be some of my other equipment not working well with the HDMI set-up just not sure yet. All and all I love this receiver, keep up the good work Onkyo!

This receiver was comparable to a more expensive Denon. I went with the cheaper option because I've used Onkyo products in the past and was happy with them, so I gave it a shot. I have had no issues so far, except that the calibration function didn't yield good settings.

Very pleased with features and performance. The TX-NR656 replaced a 10+ year old Onkyo receiver that is still performing well . . . just moving it to another room. Onkyo has made set up easy. Internet connectivity allows for easy access to on-line music streaming, etc.

I haven't had a receiver for years. I don't think I will ever use all that this unit is capable of. I love the functionality of the new technology. Because of logistics of wiring, I haven't used it as a surround system. I am happy with what I have seen so far.

Got this baby to accompany my 4k sammy. 4k up scaling for my fios, Xbox one and ps4 is excellent. audio features galore. Onkyo just released the firmware update for DTS X. make sure you have a good set of theatre speakers as this unit can handle sound waves or power!
