Was broken in less than 6 months
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Receiver worked great for about 6 months. Stopped working. Didn't buy the protection plan through Best Buy. For warranty work, I am required to drive over an hour each way to a service center, drop the receiver off and then pick it up again once work has been done. 4 hours of driving!

Bad sound and terrible receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's not worth the money since the receiver displays terrible sounds and its hard for beginners to understand. I took a few hours of my time to understand that thing and still couldn't figure it out. Would not recommend.

Receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this receiver after reviewing it online. Years ago we had a similar unit but this is an updated item. It has two separate dual zones that can be played similtaneously. Absolutely Love the options

do not recommend this system
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.had the system not even two months and returning it for servicing because it quit working right before a family party, and the guy in line behind me returning the same system, not a good sign.

HOLY WAWA
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver is awesome!. I just bought a xbox1x and new 4k tv...I had an older Onkyo Integra 50.1. I was really worried about going with a little less power...but when i saw the actual images coming from the receiver i was really blown away...i mean it looked really good straight into the tv...but going this route it was like 4k X2!!! a WORLD of difference...then i turned up the volume on an Atmos UHD blu ray...and WOW...i love separation and this is the best my home theater has ever sounded!!! GRAB this first before any other choice...hear for yourself..and save a ton of cash in the process....if you are not happy you can return it...but i bet at least 8 out of 10 people would keep this.

Awesome sound and picture up scaling quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awesome sound and power. Great receiver..the video up scaling is great. Audio through 7.1 channels is pure and correct. It's great receiver for the price. You have to spend at least more than $1000 to get a receiver with this quality, but this receiver delivers it with a price tag of $599..highly recommend.

Exceptional receiver for under $500,better yet 250
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have had a HT setup for over 15 years with 5 different receivers (2 Onkyos and Yamaha,Sony,Denon) and various speaker combinations, brands. Upgrading to Onkyo TX-NR695 from Sony DH-820; using Klipsch Reference II and Premiere speakers in a 5.2.2 front height Atmos/DT-X setup. Sound is best I've experienced on any previous setup. Has the many analog inputs I need for four Megadisc cd changers and phono and tapedeck, along with too many Hdmi inputs for the blu-ray and streambox. Everything works as advertised, wifi and bluetooth a real plus. Very happy with purchase.

Sound Quality Good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before I made this purchase, I looked at all the review regarding the Sub-woofer and accueq problems. I updated the firmware and there was an issue with the Firmware update because it would random connect to a Bluetooth device that was previous Connected. I cleared the previous Bluetooth setting and then everything was okay again. I used automatic room calibration more than once because the default was too low and Sub-woofer sound wasn't all that great. I read some the other reviews (from the different Website and forum) for the ATMOS 7.1 setup. I started off the Auto Room Calibration because of the speaker distance. My setup is 4 Ceiling Speaker, Sub, Center Channel and 2 small speaker from Bose above my center channel. I set the volume at 50 during the whole calibration level for the receiver. I also left the Setting on Dolby Surround during the entire Calibration. (On the Remote if you click the Movie/TV Button Twice it will change the setting to DTX, Theater and so on.) I had to correct the crossover sound for the Front Right/Left and Surround (back) Ceiling speaker to 80Hz. Then I set surround level to 200Hz and LFE to 120Hz which is the max for both setup. Then I change the Calibration level and correct the Speaker db levels. The most interesting part of all of the Setup feature, is you have the TV noise playing in the background awhile you set all of the configuration. Then I used an SPL Meter on my Android Phone made by keuwlsoft (which was free) and set the meter dead center in the living and set the dBA level between 78-80 which the TV noise playing in the background. Note: If you set the SPL Meter or Receiver Microphone which come with the receiver on the couch, it sound different; that why I set the SPL Meter in the center of my living room. Then I adjusted the Equalizer setting for the Preset 1 function and move each of the dBA to 78-80 in which increase and decrease the level bars for all 5 settings. Overall, it a good receiver and I got it on sale yesterday at Best Buy. I've only had it for a few days but I am still making adjustment to the sound.

Onkyo for life
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third ONKYO AVR, this 656 is a middle of the road AVR as far as what Onkyo offers but it will do a whole lot more than middle of the road. 7.2 capable Audessey set up wifi/blutooth, the list goes on and on but the bottom line is that its sound quality is excellent, firmware updates now allow for Dolby DTS:X which is great, 4K capable and its future proof as it is HDMI 2.2 capable which means the next resolution update you won't have to run out and buy a new AVR. The upscaling of 1080P to 4K looks great. For the price of this AVR you can't go wrong.

Amazing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought wanting wifi and upgraded receiver. With that you get Bluetooth, access to your network so I can access music on computer The receiver awhile back sometimes wouldn't connect to onkyo app, haven't experienced in some time. I was torn between this and a sony/yamaha.... No regrets at all, this thing powers my klipsch with ease.

Well featured A/V receiver but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an early review just to complain about user privacy with this product. You can do one of the following: - disable all networking functions through the menu system - accept the terms of service regarding user data collection - be nagged at every powerup to accept the terms of service (you have to grab the remote, scroll down, hit NO every time) If you care about your privacy and want to use the networking features of a network A/V receiver, you will be nagged forever at each powerup. Other than this well designed user experience, so far so good as a typical A/V receiver. Will update later.

Only 6 years
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty good receiver but underpowered compared to others in its class. Only held on for 6 years until it died, my Sony STR DE898 is still holding strong after over an decade+! The Sony lacked the functionality that the Onkyo had but overall ARC was integrated with protection & atmos was a pleasure, hdmi pass through not so much.
