Needed to upgrade my 5 year old Pioneer receiver, so I bought this one on sale a week ago, $200 can’t beat that. My old receiver was $268 back then. And needed one with HDR because my Samsung is an HDR TV. Hooked it up with my Bose system and sounds amazing. Wished the remote control was backlit.

It's a good price, and I am able to connect cable, DVD player, and TV with HDMI cables and surround sound in-wall speakers. The TV is connected with ARC. That's what I wanted, and that's what I got. In addition, it has Dolby Atmos.

Great Receiver. Has firmware updates that enhance the 4K to 60FPS. Really good audio and the extra hdmi ports making connecting very convenient. New listening to virtualize surround sound with only 2 speakers.

VALUE RECEIVER

Decent sound and volume. The setup is extremely basic and easy. The display is aesthetically antiquated, which is fine with me as long as the quality is there. Initially it kept powering off and I thought I had a defective unit, I was so mad! But it had a message of "Check SW" and I put 2 and 2 together(since I did not have a trouble shooting manual) I realized it was telling me to check speaker wire. It turns out I had crossed one of my speaker wires and the negative and positive wires were touching each other. The unit was "smart" enough to power itself down. I was highly impressed. If it holds up for 5 or 10 years, this would be a great purchase, If you are looking for something basic and your primary goal is to amplify a 5.2 speaker setup, then this does the job.

This item is similar to the Pioneer VSX-834, which I also own and have in another room, except that it only has 5 channels instead in the 7 in the Pioneer.
It is unique among 5 channel AV receivers, in that it can reproduce Dolby Atmos sound. Except that the rear channels are simulated instead of real, as they are in the Pioneer and other 7 channel receivers. (Of course, you have to have a Dolby Atmos Blu-ray Disc to get Dolby Atmos output.). The rear sounds are produced by the Dolby Surround Virtualizer feature in the Dolby Atmos for Sound Bars application. I never tried it myself, since all source material from broadcast, cable, and streaming TV is 5.1 at best - not Atmos. But for someone who wants to experience Dolby Atmos Blu-rays, yet can’t install rear speakers, this is the ONLY choice.
If Dolby Atmos is unimportant to you, it has a number of features to recommend it, mostly involving rear channel connections. Unlike a Sony, it can accept FM antenna connections, instead of using just a piece of wire to receive FM. It has pre-amp outputs to provide sound to a Bluetooth transmitter to headphones, and it has sufficient analog audio inputs to accept all three legacy sound sources: phono pre-amp, tape player, and CD changer.
It loses one star because the Consumer Electronics Control feature in its HDMI connections seems to have a bug. When I turn it on, the input automatically selects the Blu-ray player, which is powered off, rather than the Satellite TV converter box, which is powered on. My Pioneer, which has similar circuits, does not do that. I cannot figure out a cause or a fix.

Installed fairly easily and with the help of folks from Magnolia got it integrated with my Sony 84 inch Bravia. Great functionality and good surround sound. Setup is easy using the microphone by placing it where you sit and allowing it to adjust speaker settings. Comes with Dolby Atmos. Too bad there isn't more Atmos programming.
Setup menu is a bit weird and not the easiest to follow or understand but after playing with it a few times you figure it out. Reciever does pretty much what all the high end receivers do for half the price or better. Definately worth the purchase.

Hooked this up and found that it has the ARC HDMI connection and an automatic speaker system automatic set up. When I turn on my tv and choose tv or blu-ray, it automatically chooses the correct input to play the source to my surround sound.

Purchased this receiver as a budget home theater buy, so far its been good after initial setup. Hopefully soon I'll be able to upgrade the speakers, but the 4K pass through, and readiness for Dolby Atmos support made this a purchase I could grow into over the comparable Sony receiver at the same price point. Setup was also easy for this unit.

Good entertainment system easy to setup, but sound isn't as good as my older Yamaha setup. Clarity is great and everything even bass thru towers but volume has to be louder than other system. Love the hdmi pass thrus and all the inputs. Works great for my setup.
