I purchased this receiver to replace an older Denon surround receiver. I have Bose Acustimass speakers for a 5.1 set-up. I always thought the Denon/Bose combination was great, but I was shocked at how much better the same speakers sounded with this receiver. And this was before I added the up firing speakers for Atmos. I highly recommend this receiver if you aren't wanting to spend a ton and really want an Atmos receiver. Very impressive.

Great receiver especially for the price. Had a onkyo for 19 years previous but this one with settings and Bluetooth excels. Drives my 7 acoustic research large with passive subwoofer speakers and 2 separate active subwoofers like I’m sitting on stage with the band I play in. Can’t wait to replace my 60” led with a 82” 4K UHD I won’t need to go to I- max anymore

I was skeptical at the price for what it delivers but after hooking it up I was blown away how good the receiver is. It does everything very well and my system sounds great. I only have a 5.1 but it shakes the walls and I don’t need to turn it up very high for the speakers to perform well. I haven’t had any issues after almost 2 years. I hope to expand the speaker capability son with some Atmos in-ceiling and using this receiver to power them. Overall great bang for the buck.

I replaced an old Onkyo receiver with this new one and so far have been very pleased. It comes on faster so I don't wait 30 seconds before I get audio and the sound quality is good. I'm very happy buying this particular receiver with the 9 channels which I need.

This thing puts out a lot more power than my top of the line THX certified Onkyo from 20 years ago. I run it into the same 6 ohm speakers and they are significantly louder now. I haven't had time to explore all the features but I will say the controls on the receiver and the remote do not allow access to many of the features which is kind of disappointing.

It has better sound than comparable Yamaha receiver. I had bought both and compared the sound quality had to return Yamaha. I took one star off for the remote, it's cheap looking and can't be used to operate any other equipment like blueray. You can do more with Yamaha remote. I think Yamaha has the best remote it even worked with my navida shield box. Yamaha atoms sound was not as realistic as onkyo.

This reciever is excellent! It has a lot of features that I haven't just figured out yet but I'm up to the task . Onkyo sound is crisp clear and powerful after you get above 50 on this reciever. I've had it for several months and the wireless music apps like spotify works great. All in all it's a nice reciever!

Old onkyo thx receiver finally bit the dust after around 13 years. Went with the current model as it seemed to have the features I wanted such as having a 7.1 speaker setup with 2 more channels for expansion.
I've tested some of the capabilities of the new receiver such as playing different audio formats (Atmos, neural x, thx, etc) with 1080p blu ray video (including 3d) and it handled everything very well except having to turn off HDMI arc for the 3d playback to work. Also, HDMI passthrough works for the most part. If arc is turned off it slightly limits passthrough options (I was kinda forced to choose the most used HDMI source and set it to that).
I have not used any of the audio streaming (WiFi, Bluetooth, etc) features yet, but the radio tuner works really well.
All in all, so far this seems like a very good receiver and I am enjoying my purchase. I just wish I had 4k devices to test with the receiver. A couple more speakers to complete the setup would be nice too :)

Purchased this for my Dad's Surround Setup in his Condominium. It was recommend by a Professional Installer who helped with all the wiring & configuration. It works very well & the sound is very impressive in the large room. He's very happy with it and we can blast it too!

I'm quite new to the AV Receiver world, but the product is a great one from my experience, I hooked it to an Onkyo Sks-ht870 speakers and I feel the speakers are undermining its capabilities. It's a mid range Reciever that has almost all the features of high end receivers.

I am not a big audiophile, but have owned a few Onkyo receivers over the years. I bought this to upgrade to 9.2 to take advantage of my new ceiling speakers for Atmos. With continual firmware updates, its kept up to date with new advances.

I’ve had the best Yamaha , and Onkyo systems , this is by far one of the best, it took me a long time to figure everything out, it has room for a total of 9 speakers , and two subwoofers, the quality is great. Sounds are outstanding!

This is an amazing unit. Bluetooth picking up Spotify and Pandora. I don't own a TV so many features aren't appropriate for my use but I can hook up all 9 of my in-ceiling speakers for less $$ by almost half for other units of comparable capacity.

I replaced my previous receiver with the 787. My previous receiver didn't have THX built into it. This receiver is deceptively more capable than the previous one. It does its job without fuss and the sound it richer and smoother.

For the money this is a good receiver. Power is adequate and clean. The feature set is very good for the money. Interface is not as intuitive as some other brands, but is still easy enough to figure out
