Will Not Work With ATT DSL

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Directions say that if you have to use a integrated modem and router system your voice quality will suffer. I have a high speed ATT DSL which uses a modem and router integrated. You can hear every word of the person you are talking to but they only hear every other word you say to them. Tried different phones, same problem. Checked my Internet speed, very good high speed. Called support and they had so much background noise that it was hard to understand them. The person I spoke to would come on and off the line. Very confusing. Finally after about twenty minutes of wasted time I hung up during one of the off line times, maybe they were using their own product. I think that this product would have worked fine if I would have had a separate modem and router Internet set-up. But even if it had worked I would still have a problem with their "tech" support. Not very good. Returned item to BestBuy.

    Waste of Money

Normally I would not rate a product so poorly but when my OOMA failed to work after a little over a year, OOMA said that they were sorry but the warranty had expired. How do you save money on a product that fails after a little over a year. And not to mention the fact that not having a home phone is a huge annoyance. I must admit that while I had the service it was pretty good but had i known that their devices were such garbage I would have never switched to them. You might buy an OOMA box and have it last for a very long time, or it may break after a year like mine. I paid $200 for the box and $50 to port my number, a complete waste of money.

Decent product. Obviously meant for home use and not heavy office phone use, but works decently. Great price.

I am very disappointed with Ooma, They should (but don't) advise you that you absolutely can not use a fax machine, tivo or any other device, only phone service period! If I had known that I never would have purchased it. I guess thats why it's not mentioned anywhere. Check thier own website, they actually recommend a land line for these devices, so now I need both? wheres the savings in that? I also often receive calls from the Philippines. I have the highest comcast internet connection available and love it. But my Ooma calls from offshore are completely garbled and useless. When I had comcast voip I did not have any such problems. I would never recommend ooma to anyone except my enemies.

Poor voice quality and no international calling

People I called had trouble hearing me. I could not call Canada as advertised, only got a busy signal. I prepaid $10 to try out the international calling but it wouldnt work. Returned unit to store but Ooma will not refund the prepaid as per their policy I guess. Whether it works or not, they keep the money

911 service doesn't work, not safe

In an emergency, the e-911 service routed my call to the wrong city, even though my address is correctly registered. Police were dispatched to the correct street address, but in the wrong city! I worked with customer service for 3 weeks before speaking with a supervisor (Dante) who said it couldn't be fixed and was working as it was supposed to - "you got 911 didn't you?". Not safe, not acceptable, not worth any amount of potential savings.

    having terrible experience with Ooma

So much frustration; could write a chapter about it. Setup took longer than expected. It's not clear if or how you can use you other phones with Ooma. Porting number over has been a fiasco. Kept getting calls in middle of night coming to the Ooma phone from 'unknown'. Customer service has been poor. They're only open until 6pm pacific time. Got double charged for Premier service and had to call credit card co to reverse the double charge. And to top it all, realized today that our phone has not been getting incoming calls for the last two days. Currently cannot get an incoming call - AT ALL. Have to call Ooma first thing in the morning. Very unhappy with the product, customer service, reliability.

My review is as same as smseattle on 12-29-09 and 1sandy1 on 2/12/2010. I have a new house with Cat 5 jacks and a wireless network with modem/router installed in master closet downstairs. After setting up ooma, I was unable to recieve incoming calls. I figured it was with portablity wait till phone number transfered. But after waiting 4 weeks, I called ooma support and could barely hear or understand tech because of all the background conversations/noise. I explained I did not have a traditonal old style phone jack and wireless modem/router was not at my computer. He did not seem to understand that. He was unable to help me fix problem. Very disappointed with product and service. Would only buy this if you have old phone jacks or modem/router next to or on your computer. Otherwise, dont waste you $$ on this product!

    Poor product

This product did not work for me. My vonage works fine. During my install, the device killed my internet for over three hours. After it came back up, I instilled 48 install trying to work it. The device never worked. I contact Ooma for assistance. They could not get it working. Ooma required a purchase the telo to get the product to work. That would cost me over $300 for one phone. Apparently, you cannot use your cordless home phone with the Ooma. Complete waste of time. I do not suggest anyone buy this product. The description and how it works is misleading.

Cheap equipment and horrible customer service

My Ooma equipment quit working after 6 months. I called them to replace it and said they would and they promised to overnight it because I needed a phone. After 4 calls, they final shipped one out but not overnight. When I called again to find out what was going on, they said there was nothing they could do and it would be at my home in a week. So, I am without a phone for 9 days and was made a promise that they would not honor. I would much rather pay the phone company a monthly fee than have to deal with this!

Not at all what I thought!

We purchased the Ooma for our home and while it was easy to set up and use, the quality was horrible. While on the phone the person I was speaking with could not hear me, said that there was a delay when I spoke and calls dropped like crazy. I called the help number at Ooma and even that call dropped, they told me to call back on a cell phone, which was fine but we purchased the Ooma so we did not have to use our cell phones at home. I am returning the Ooma and would not recommend anyone purchasing this.

Quit working 2 months after warranty expited

It worked fine for 14 months, then the equipment failed and the mfg wouldn't do anything for me. Their attitude was like too bad-so sad just buy another one. They said quote "we know you are dissappointed". So OK.... divide $199 by 14 months and it's $14/month for equipment. Add the $14 monthly monthly charge from Ooma and that equals $28/per month. Do yourself a favor and add that $28 to your cell phone bill.

Couldn't use it because they wanted another $40

Bait and switch product. Advertised as no monthly fees - they charge monthly taxes and fees. Then they don't have any available phone numbers forcing you to port your own number for another $40. Tried to work with the customer service to make this work and their only option was to charge me more and more money.

    Poor Quality - Ripoff

The quality is poor - even with upgraded Internet service. Re-activation by a second user is $79 so you if you keep it past BBY return date you will not be able to resell it for what you bought it for. Ripoff!
